  1. P hoping partner doesn't have the magic 14 pointer.
  2. OS rather clearly differentiates the obstruct hands from the compete/construct hands and gets distribution announced early.
  3. 2S then if partner repeats 3D, Bw then 5NT to show all A and suggest DKxxxxx to grand.
  4. Quacky flat opposite a bal min rebid 1N= 3NT. Play that 9 tricks may be all WE need for game; 4H needs 10!
  5. Kaplan-ism: where's the hand you had in the auction??
  6. even more confident if opponents have eg. 4D for slammish 4S opener. This hand almost impels me to 4NT if ace ask then surprise partner with 6H over his 5H. Bid 6H over 5D - my try to take.

    Partner's 10 with a fit tries 4H. Not proud but ok. Partner's 6 passes. Ok. Partner's 10 non-fit --there's the rub!
  8. Did partner bounce them into 6S failing? Don't get in his way. Pass, X would have something.
  9. When 9 tricks is the limit, I want 3NT.
  10. 2C. How tangled can the ensuing auction get?
  11. Scattered quacks always 3NT.
  12. '6-5 come alive' Who said that? Both majors must be right to bid. Especially against wish and prayer 3NT.
  13. 4S some extra= just accepting an invite. Any 1+ trick extra would cue. What's 5C? At least 1+ trick short to cue on this auction. SQxxx HAKx DKx CAQxx just could. Use Marshall Miles rule: 1st slam try must have 1+ trick extra, counter cue 1/2 trick extra. Didn't 4S deny 1/2 trick extra?
  14. Hoping partner has a penalty pass of 2Cx?? How much do you expect? 2C +2S + 2D + ? for down 1 MAYBE 2 vs. a joke 2C OC. Bid 2S maybe partner had 3S, 4S, 5S and 6hcp --here we are. At least now partner's H bid is long H.
  15. Partner with his 6hcp passes, but 10 bids on: 4S fit; 4m 5-suit; 3NT with only one stop doubleton is way too likely to fail. Double way too likely to miss S 5-3.
  16. Wasn't partner hoping to bounce them into 4S, when he bid 4D? X is clear.
  17. The only single raise that I like is partner SKxx + HKx or HKQx .... Too perfect!
  18. 4H, then sick feeling when one opponent X to find 4S making, when pass won.
  19. RHO now jumps to 3C, what now?
  20. <4S> 5C <5S> 5H. Beleive that?
  21. Partner's party-- his best guess is my best guess.
  22. Partner comes in very aggressively, so his pass is 'stay out' with no clearcut bid like here.
  23. Finally hearing someone who sees the OBVIOUS to obstruct 'may be short' 1C! When their 1C bid is 2-7C, 0-5D, 0-4H, 0-5S, and 12-21hcp what do they know? What can they sort out at 3-level with one response to decide partial/game/ penalty? Make them guess especially when the guessing is bad = highly ambiguous, many possibilities. Much changes after passes in an auction. Especially, the likelihood of opponents overheating. They may still mis-bid to wrong strain, or under-bid, but no left field overbid is possible. The same for our side: partner won't overheat unless promoting a super fit. So most divergences up or down from expected are effective. 4cM in 3-seat even playing 5cM; 1NT 10-16 in 3-seat; 2C starts at 19hcp; 1C/1D are strong ala Roth-Stone.
  24. Do you not have C-ask, then D-ask? You'll know 4H/6H/7H after those 2 asks. hope for 5H + 6D + 1CA + 1Sruff.
  25. Vs 1C that is 2-7C, 0-5D, 0-4H, 0-5S, 12-21hcp, anything goes. I especially like the Overcall Structure over 1C so ambiguous. Many jumps on shape. Vs 1S the chances opponents will MIS-bid= land in the wrong strain is minute. They already announce their most likely game suit. The hope left is OVER/UNDER-bid. Not likely especially with only 4 card suits. Competing vs. 1S leaves much more to reopening.
