  1. As others noted, what bid shows NOT 2or3 diamond tops? Contrarily, what shows a hand that wants DA,K, or DQ to get excited? What N bid showed NOT DAK, DAQ, DKQ? What S bid showed NOT DQ, DK, DA?
  2. LTTC at least makes more sense than "surprise! I'm key-carding this auction" as THE slam-try. Why aren't slammy stuff shown way lower? Some Jump Shift reserved to invite slam, demand trump quality, controls, eg?
  3. This is an argument that I don't understand. If one was playing standard carding, what card would one play? To me, the question is "Is this an attitude or count situation?" I believe it is an attitude situation, and I don't want partner to continue clubs, so (playing UDCA) I play the highest one that I can afford to play - the 7. If I were playing standard carding, it would still be an attitude situation, so I would play the 2. There are many reasons why UDCA is superior to standard carding. The most obvious is when you discourage, the high card that you use to discourage is likely to be a card you can afford to play; however, if you were playing standard carding, a high card that you would have to play to encourage might not be a card you could afford to play. As for unblocking plays, they tend to be obvious to all concerned. *** Can this discussion even exist if this 20 year old *** "UDCA is best" were correct and documented/demonstrated? *** If it's best these were shown better long ago. *** This situation would long ago have been resolved in "UDCA is best". *** That hasn't happened. This discussion is asking "what is best?" *** UDCA proponents are, by me, simply asked to show. *** Not appeal to experts do it. Not 10x drops 10 to discourage. *** Not one pet case, but a spectrum of better than. *** I haven't seen that. Show me.
  4. Are we two decades into UDCA and these questions are not answered? I've heard UDCA is best but, as here, without justification. I hope your post generates the "why it's best?" Another case is UDCA vs. unblocking problems that were easy when Std signals were used - high signaled attitude while unblocking.
  5. Do you intend a system testing party regularly? Say another in six months? Let those involved evolve their systems from in-the-fray results. My partnership is likely ready then.
  6. I separate supporting hands with short in their major from other raises. This is in that separate case. I show D-wanted raise.
  7. Having not jumped to 2N last round to assure my partner S-stops and 10-12, I've fixed myself. I have 10 opposite his T/O Dbl but have bid an amorphous 1NT. I owe another bid. Does he fear only 1 S-stop so 3NT won't make? Or is he minimal - so would always would pass a minimum? Or is he stuck with some good stuff - warned off by my previous 1NT? His rebid was handcuffed by my bid. Do I now mastermind this auction after I said limited weak last round? Some people love doing this sort of bidding, so they allow something wrong to criticize partner.
  8. What if Fibonacci-ing your system begins after a 1st response? Now you'd have 'pages' to sequence per Fibonacci: after 1C-1D, 1C-1H, 1D opener, 1H opener, etc.
  9. Partner has a near 1S overcall but minimum left to reopening as little more than a partial to hope for after you passed. That'll end in 4-3 clubs or 5-3 diamonds, never 3-5 spades. Unless reopening Dbl promises 3+S so partner can bid to 3-5 spade fit? Or partner has 4xS not worth an overcall. Now 1NT gets to a 4-3 clubs when 5-3 diamonds was available. Hope no 3-4 clubs or partner's 5=4=2=2 quits 1NT? I really like pass. I have 3+S at the 1-level and no surety a minor fit is better. Score 80/110 in 1S or try for 90/110 in 2m? Too small a target to take an ambiguous risk with 1NT asking a minor.
  10. In tempo, 4D is shaping out on an offensive hand. BIT, 4D is a fragment asking where to go. Similarly, In tempo, Dbl has tricks in their suit. BIT, Dbl shows cards. That's what I see way too often.
  11. have you made the choice : - raptor when opening bid is a minor - equal level conversion when opening bid is a major what do you think about this ? *** Flesh this out for its effect on actual-used and inferences on other overcalls. Worth looking at that systemic effect.
  12. Did this auction H-xfer then 3NT warn you not 3NT if any dangerous stop? Like D:Kx? Try 4H with an unsure stop.
  13. 4.) There was a thread recently where the majority seemed to agree that good declarer play and good defensive play will ensure above average results in any tournament. 5.) Bidding wasn’t regarded as important as point 4 above. 6.) Many controlling bodies e.g. ACBL outlaw many of these fancy systems anyway. *** 6.) I play a totally General Convention Chart system per ACBL. Does that make my system "fancy"? Or does GCC imply not "fancy"? Conditions of Contest allowing GCC means opponents are to be prepared for GCC-allowed, don't they? Does that gain by their unfamiliar with GCC? Not by the sanctioning rules. *** 5.) Play your extra-trick-winning best in 2NT. Our system judged 3NT - making. The very essence of system agreements - make better/finer decisions. *** 4.) Do you not see a point of diminishing returns for better - better - better yet in play and defense?
  14. Is partner trained/agreed to ignore all but Spade Ace? Demote all but A/K in minors? Need to have Heart A/K/Qxx+ to raise? Then I'll try 3H.
  15. 1st, 9 as your bottom is too high for 1S, near 7. It is low for 1H, near 10. it is wa-a-y too low for 1D, near 13. Bizarre too low for 1C, near 16. I assume 1m are NT relays. 2nd, did you look for Forcing pass systems results when they opened their 8-12? That should apply. 3rd, 1NT on balanced 9-10 need to remove 4-4M looking to have some preempt 1-level gain not sold back in a losing M-explore. 4th, what 2-level scheme caps 1-bids? 2-suiters? 1-suiters? not spade hands? You are close to what I like. Develop this. Detail this.
  16. Did you pick your methods to have no 15+ bal in direct seat? Your choice, live with this one. Hope you have a less stringent reopening structure.
  17. What were South's passed hand distributional calls? 2-suiter H+D, H+C, C+D seems wanted. And of course 1-suited with shape. Which begin with a double by passed hand? Eg. Dbl: H1. 2C: C+H. 2D: H+D. 2NT: D+C. Let minor 1-suiter steam with 9-11. Even 2S(Q-bid by a passed hand): 6xC or 6xD.
  18. Opponents are rabbits - 5H to bounce them into 5S. Opponents are well-disciplined - PASS. Opponents are hair-trigger doublers - this hand ain't even close.
  19. In passout, Dbl = willing to quit 3M/3D. 3D = both Majors 3H = S+D 3S = H=D when more than a partial if partner has his 8.
  20. 1. To D10 dare opponents to cash 4xH. 2. To CJ and "finesse" HJ. 3. SA, to SJ hoping SQ onside. 4. Cash clubs to get a hint of their distribution. Which is "fancy"?
  21. mich-b, Good 'gotcha'! That's a 0.0016% rebuff.
  22. Does they're not in 6S suggest D-doubleton or C-doubleton in their long spades hand? I think a club doubleton would slam this after partner's club suit shown. Lead a Diamond.
  23. dake50

    3-7

In my partnership, 3D does not deny spades. 3D promises at least spade tolerance or 3d-er can control the developments. That agreement makes 3D stand out.
  24. Good news. Partner has H-A10x and D-Kx. He bids 6H. After all, no double, but 5H instead is not interested in spades thus H+D.
  25. What were 3D,3H,3S over 3C? How would they follow-up? What's left is 4C.
