  1. This CRASH modification runs afoul (ACBL) of not having an 'anchor'(known) suit. Whirlwind is similar but ACBL-GCC compliant. . Much too much ambiguity handcuffing partner from jumping to the 3-level where lost space just might hamper 1C-strong sequences.
  2. Must I play 3D 'mini-splinter' as if 12 opener? Or may I have strong follow-ups? eg. invite partner's good 6.
  3. What would you have this double mean? Support? Cards? Penalty? Fourth suit with tolerance seems reasonable. Right you are to clarify its HCP, suit quality. I'd expect Jx support, KJ10xx suit as minimums for 2-level Snapdragon. Higher can't ask much more HCP, (this auction claims most of the HCP) so 6-suit to K10 at 3-level, catch-as-catch-can at 4-level.
  4. I like 2H even with only 4xS. I have a void after all. I'll rebid 2D/3D if given a chance.
  5. In modern versions of Precision, does the “Impossible Negative” still form part of the system? If not, how do modern versions of Precision show 8+ HCP and the 4441 hand pattern with responder after a 1♣ opening? The one thing I have always hated about the “Impossible Negative” is the amount of bidding space it consumes. Surely to goodness there must be better ways for responder to show a 4441 hand and 8+ HCP? *** I try the 'Impossible Negative' 1D with 7-12 and less than 3 controls. Now the splinter-fit on 5-7 is not too far from an 'Impossible Negative'. 4+ controls 4441 starts specific 3-bid immediate to 1C.
  6. I've played 2/4 through declarer and 3/5 through dummy, it felt very natural. *** Ignore the top honor. Lead as your spot length agreement. Eg. K742 leads 2 as from 742 - 3-spots; K74 leads 7 as if 74 doubleton spots.
  7. Seriously this is the expert bridge forum, we have a hand where a guy passed 4N and then we are asked to assign the blame. OP even says that 4N is pick a minor. Calling me drunk is pretty unfounded, maybe kgr will get more helpful replies if he respects the descriptions of the subforums. This kinda BS thread in the expert bridge forum 100 % deserves to be trolled. *** JLOGIC is right. Have y'all never seen "dancing about" before sacrificing in 4S? This is ancient psyching. If your bids don't expose this psyching, change what your bids mean.
  8. I am considering switching to invitational jump shifts instead of Bergen raises. What are your requirements in regards to a fit for partner's suit? i.e. 1S-3D, can 3D bidder have Hx of spades? Can he have two small? After the jump shift are new bids by opener game forcing? Any other suggestions for this method? I am playing this in a precision with 2/1 completely game forcing context. If anyone has links to other threads concerning this, I'd be much obliged if you'd share them. *** What will handle those GF jump shifts? Load up 2/1? Reserve one JS as catch-all force? Rebids after JS invite redefined as now GF?
  9. Realistically, we will seldom have room for most of this. *** Start lower?!
  10. "Cover your eyes little tweety bird. You shouldn't outta see this." *** I'd try 4D splinter with North's hand. Heavens! With 3-support?!? That here solves North's problem after South next supports hearts.
  11. When was 6xD-solid to be shown? North fears a D-loser +SA? When was 4-support for Diamonds to be shown? Was HA suggested? C-AQ in 2nd suit? North has a monster opposite solid 6xD. *** I would have jumped 4D over 4SF to show solid. Now North is well placed to find even a grand.
  12. South has brought partner into the decision, and partner accepted the task. Even if it doesn't work out well on this hand, it will probably be a good thing for future hands if South decides to let it go. I don't want to hear in the bar, later, "Why do you ask for my input with 4C, and then ignore it?" Yes, 4C was mandatory if we care about the guy across the table. Yes, he might not expect distribution quite this extreme. Oh, well. *** Agree. Partner won't double in front of me in a forcing pass situation with fitting cards. I don't like this one as I am SO-O-O offense oriented: 1=6=0=6 with A+A.
  13. Open 4H and miss 6H as partner knows you don't have 2xA plus a void.
  14. What kind of drivel would partner reopen with? Do I have to guard against his error? He made a suggestion we have stuff. He asked "What do I think?" I think defend! Just as many other situations use your best judgment. Can't bat 1000%
  15. I play Overcall Structure and 1M may always be 4-suit with a 5-minor. That Canape I suggest is 'MAF' MajorsAlwaysFirst. What do others do? A 2C overcall with 4xC and 5xS to rebid 2S?
  16. 4S is fit but no A nor K nor single nor void. NO SLAM. I guess 3S then. "Slow down, partner!" coming.
  17. 2S. But I think few can stop even in 3S. Is that the jist of your question?
  18. pass - 15+ hcp any (except 21-23 balanced) *** This seems too much to untangle against opponents who know to get to 2M or 3-level quickly. I suggest a different partition: Heart suit shows; strong with spades can pass first. Minors get to 3m quickly. So pass has 1. strong bal: 17+; (I like even more 19+) 2. strong spades: 16+; (of course playing tricks) 3. very strong hearts or minors: 18+. This scheme insulates the pass from preemption. Strong hands can show even at 3+level with some clarity.
  19. As I play a light 1M scheme, my passed partner cannot have 10 with a Major. So yes, penalty, AND expect a minor suit lead. Much more so when opponents are Vul. Hope 500+ bonanza. How else to get which partner has the 6-7 that swings the balance of power?
  20. Finesse. You missed the odds on grand. Play like the grand fails while you cater to a H:4-1 loser. It is matchpoints at GIB level ain't it?
  21. Which hands does partner go through Lebensohl or negX first? Do any rebids after those show strong? Or show GF? Can partner distinguish eg. D:xxx with C:AKQxxx and no side A/K from D:x with C:KJxxxxx and HAKx
  22. Obvious double. What crap is partner's T/O Dbl double minimum? He has DT's or a long suit in a strong playing hand. I suggest defending, maybe for a bonanza. The tough question comes if partner bids 4S,5C. Do I slam try? Nope. HAK is not promoting his long suit.
  23. So, where is the line drawn? Do you guide yourself by the 'rule of 20' like a robot? Do you go by instinct? Do you use a formula or just go with the flow? And what tools would you use, if any, to make sure partner won't take you for a not-so-good hand after you passed during your first turn? *** Interesting contrast of theory. Should a partnership invest in unraveling weak cases in strong auctions after weak distributional openers? Or unravel after distributional T/O convention next round? Verses should opening standards be higher to ease slammy/game tries? Which is more effort? Which pays more? Light openers with tough slammy/game decisions or sound openers with easier slam/game decisions? Let alone doubling decisions? Do light openers let opponents run amok undoubled? Too often?
  24. The problem as I see it, is which of 2C to promise 10 points - hoping partner continues 2H if he has 4xH. Or 1H and hope partner gives me a chance to show my max-pass. If he's not trying game and quits after either 2C or 1H, I like 2C - hoping opponents reopen. No cheap 1S for them.
