Agree double. Hope partner has clear offense minor or H-trick + A or K.
-
Very fine line for those hands where responding to a possibly light opener changes what he intends to show. What bids would change if opener has 8-losers vs. 7-losers? I think only minimum rebids are "minimum".
-
Partner says lots of shape. But an A plus a K won't even prefer. 6S is a better shot than 3NT. Contradict partner needs a sure thing. This ain't.

2 way pass system and 1m fert legal

Switch 1D: 0-7 no major to one 4xM or 4xM with 3-4xoM with Pass: 0-11 no major. I think Pass: 18-20 bal is a good "big" hand into pass. Enough to come as high as the 3-level when that occurs. Maybe 18-20 needs further constraint, eg. both M-stops. Pass including some weak long spades cases appeals as the spades won't be shut out below 3-level. Get hearts in quickly, get minors in quickly. Spades can amble into any auction when the hand is strong. -
I assume Double is the only strong enough bid partner has. Then Double here. My partnership has 3 bids for 2-suiters and 3 bids for 1-suiters plus 3H Q-bid. He chose none of them, so Double stands out. And I don't have to Just-in-case my bid here.
-
With my style, after 2H, I double 3C to show HAK as defensive tricks. Partner is now well placed.
-
A 2H overcall.
-
Is 3s a bar bid? Or is an invite? I have 3S to bar partner - purely hoping 3S is right. And I have 3H as a transfer raise to invite. I choose 3H.
-
I agree with your assessment. So I play K - my luck is this bad.
-
Auto 4N (high offense T/O, not 2-suiter). Have to have action on this 3-suiter.
-
What agreements do we have about the honor order? D10A not the same as D10K - right? DK instead of D10 is different from DA - right? Then a later H-switch is enlightening to partner - right?
-
Lesser without a 4xMajor. More-ther with a Major to find and play. Since a minor fit without a Major plays 3m at least - they won't let 2D/2C play will they? With a Major, we need secure info for our game decision.

Another 'lower 2C rule' hand.! Playing a 1C force with asking bids: 1C-1S(C-xfer or 8+ no suggested suit)- 2H(H-ask?)- 3C(3+H,no top)- 3D(D-ask?)- 3N(3+D,no top)- 4C(Aces?)- 4S(2)- 6-best red. Not even a problem. How low will 2C go??? Once was 23+HCP. Then 9+tricks. Now even 8+tricks. When do 2C-ers decide strong starts 1C-force? Never when 2C can be 15-shapely.

I'm trusting partner doesn't double here with much less than S:KJ + C:KQ. I try 6C.

"Passing UI" is not illegal, unless it's done deliberately. ** Passing gas is not impolite, smelling it is?

Minors facing a takeout double - how much do you like your hand?
dake50 replied to sasioc's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
Yup, if you pass that's +500. 3 imps out, against 620 from the other table. -- Frances Hinden *** Are you suggesting 500 v 620 is the most likely *** in this situation? Always in this situation? *** Are you suggesting 800 v set game never occurs? *** Are you suggesting that 3 imps out is a disaster? *** Partner did double leaving penalties possible. *** Was he wrong? Should he have bid 4S when all he *** needs is 'HA' -- their suit? *** Is taking a sure plus wrong? -

I'm hard pressed to visualize a try for penalties that won't be a success, even maybe a 500+ bonanza. -
If you choose LTC as your tricks evaluator, do you just accept C:Jxx w C:xxx(dummy) is a rare 3-losers that doesn't combine well for you? Or do you have a "3+losers here", do we combine for 3+losers? Do you find this 3+3 flaw? Next, LTC for tricks, what finds trump tops, controls, right K,Q when you are slammy? The follow-ups make this playable or efficient. Publish them for critique.

Zelandakh I think this is really bad... really really bad. If you are relaying then the basic premise of your system is to ask the most general questions first and gradually become more specific. Shape information is always necessary whereas control information is only necessary on a few hands. Relay breaks are good for hands where the general questions do not work well. A classic example is for suit quality issues such as stopper asks in fragments. Only if you have space after covering these basics should you start devoting relay breaks to control asks. Ideally you use a different control-asking mechanism for the relay breaks than for the general relay sequence to maximise the options for gathering information. I personally dislike the alpha-beta style of asking bid with a vengeance. I think it is a highly inefficient way of producing a mono-directional bidding system. That said, if the OP is interested in this approach then I would suggest joining the BIL is a good option since this is the Precision variant that is taught there. Since there are several players learning at once it is also a good way of picking up a partner playing the same system and eager to learn and practise. *** Absolutly amazing! Create a straw dog (falsify what they do) *** then hammer them as unable to do what pattern relays do do. *** When will pattern relays discover C:A10xxxxx is opposite C:KQ? *** That's immediate in support ask. Now this is a slammy hand. *** When does pattern relays find D:top opposite D:AKxxxx? *** Yes to D:top ask MAKES this hand worth a slam try. *** Trump relay WILL find 3xtops or one missing! *** Then will find controls - even a doubleton = third round control. *** Do you not think askers have step-outs as pattern-relayers do? *** Or straw-dog only pattern relayers can do step-outs for just *** those hands you claim makes pattern-relays so adaptable? *** The most general question of all is "DO WE HAVE TWO TRUMP LOSERS?" *** Askers ask that most general question first. Why do you not?

Here's my entry - the red suit X shows, P implying the other red or notting.! By agreement to lead spades through 1,2 times.
-
Absolutely. A peeve of mine is not using low levels to get slammy info. Some bid should initiate Trumps ask, relay for Aces, relay for Show Kings. This should almost always be asked and shown below 4M. Now Support-This-Suit-Ask and Control-This-Suit-Ask are rarer. Decide if they are worth the reserved bid to initiate them. I think Ask trumps, relay ask aces, relay ask show Kings scheme is way more efficient than relay-for-pattern with relay-more-pattern next.
-
If this is a problem auction, what is the rest of your system? No other cater to bottom 1C opener? I think 3S should guarantee S-control in case 3H is slammy without S-control. Or what structure does show a S-control? But then what bid(s) does opener have that are non-cooperative? Now 4D shows a 2-suiter and my D-control needs be shown. Seems you need to untangle too many cases. Many of those untanglings need to be in some other bid.
-
Support double then 3S shows some monster?? Or minimum opener liking spades - 6-side suit with 2-tops, a single, 2 S-tops this time. Let new suit force start the monster?

They make a natural 1NT overcall in sandwich seat
dake50 replied to gnasher's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
Why did partner NOT double, NOT leave bid out/Dbl to you? I'm 70% reliable he fears running clubs with stops in the 1NT. He fears your bid out is trouble. Some thing like 2=3=6=2. Pass unless 1NT was a joke and you have 12+ hcp.
