  1. Are we really forcing on this 9 + 14-16 = 23-25 combined? I would surely have left partner to bid his 5xM or double to ask my bid if the fight was still in him after 3C. I guess now 3S. I forced myself didn't I? This feels like the defenders are about to pounce.
  2. Are you playing in an anchor suit required by the sanctioning body? I rather like an Amsbury adaptation. 2S is 6+S OR 1S444 OR 5-5 touching. On a double sit with 6+S, Redouble with 3-other suits, Bid the lower of touching with 5-5. Other 2-bids are similar. Pick what you want 1-bids to be. They disrupt near zero so need to be competing.
  3. "Could you specify, whether your bid is CP (clear pass), HP(pass with hesitation), HH (bidding hearts with hesitation) or CH (clear heart bid)?" *** Was partner's X ClearX, HesitationX?
  4. "Almost all hands worth a GF can make slam opposite the right void and values, some stronger will make it opposite a good maximum with the right singleton. But is it worth investigating?" -- Fluffy *** Doesn't that answer your question? *** If the right void is possible, look for that void.
  5. Although I think it is highly likely 2S will push them to 3H, most safe 2S bids would have partner acting directly. For me, then it comes down to "how trigger-happy are these opponents?" Rarely do I think well-discussed opposing partnership's miss a 200..500+ penalty that I offer with 2S. Quits.
  6. Started wrong. Now you see the problems with 1NT:8-13 bal response to 1C force. 1) I suggest 1S-> bal 8-13 OR Clubs transfer. That lets 1C opener use typical NT scheme with his 1NT rebid. Intend strong 1C to declare and let responder show. 2) Where does 1D fit in your NT ladder? Below 1NT opener only? Below OR above by rebid? Eg. 18 in 1D to rebid 2NT, 11-13 rebids 1NT; 1NT opener 14-16. Use 1D to clarify 1C and rebid in your NT ladder. 3) I much prefer asks. I know what I want to know usually. Even when my ask helps little, I have certain knowledge.
  7. I like AJAR (AllJumpsAreRaises) here splinter's for partner's hearts. That makes others go through 2NT (good/bad) ie. Long diamonds, Strong bal, Big 2nd suit. Or lower bids.
  8. Very tempted to raise to 3D. East is about to reveal opponents have 10 tricks in hearts. His 5xH with West's 4xH and 5xC running.
  9. Agree FrancesHinden. Keep your same counter to 2-suited overcalls.
  10. 1NT is easy playing 1NT:10-13 and 1D artificial, 2D special. The only alternate is 3D which is NOT a weak preempt, close.
  11. 1H overcall rebids for me would be 'walking the dog' on some 7xH hoping to play 4H/4H-X/3H-X. But then I do have an immediate 4-5 MM bid and 5-4 MM.
  12. Play 4cM in a Majors-Always-First,MAF style was designed just for this problem. Find your 4-3+ Major fit quickly. Assure 4-4 Major fit before 4M; or at least assure single must be trump controlled (weak/no stop).
  13. Partner was willing to let this 2H partial. Now game is bid, slam try. Get D-short into this auction so partner evaluates well on this close to 6H.
  14. Is this BIT = "I have some (2DT) and now you, partner also know" ever punished? Let this one go also. At least expect TD to be consistent.
  15. When does responder show D-short? This may be key to partner seeing no/lots of duplication. Even swaying a slam try/not decision. My partnership shows short after first responses to 1NT.
  16. With a devalued side stuff, Weak Jump 2H myself. I would have WJO 2H last round. I quit now.
  17. Could I xfer to 3-suit so my rebid is 5+M? Eg. S:KJxxx H:xxx D:AJx C:xx and 2C-> 2D, then 2S. Usually this is a 4-5+ 2-suiter, but a fragment before a real 5+ Major appeals. Which xfers can I use for big hands as a catchall strong T/O?
  18. I want 3NT coming to me after almost begging for a club lead.
  19. I suggest x = any balanced 2NT = both majors, 5/4 or better and all other bids natural, point ranges to taste. In my opinion the important thing when defending against a weak-only multi2D is to be able to overcall 2H naturally. multi2D seems to lose when multi2D opener has a weak2 in spades and opps are allowed to overcall 2H while the rest of the field is shut out with 2S. *** How often do you think 5/4 Majors *** occurs after 2D as weak 2M? *** Sure seems a wasted bid whatever the *** rest of your suggested meanings have. *** Back to my suggestion 2NT has M-stops. *** 3 minor has source of tricks asks do you M-stop? *** Dbl has other Major (he thinks).
  20. 2D opener is the weakness pair. Let ambiguity loose. Of course, unless game is possible with the weak2's Major. I mean they (2D opener) don't need to be clear. We competing against need clarity. So put well-defined Overcalls in your scheme with a catchall strong amorphous bid. I suggest 2H is strong amorphous. 2S is real S-invite or better. 2NT is M-stops. X is T/O for Spades as 2H includes 5+H-invites. 3m for strong suit source of tricks if you stop their Major.
  21. Let D4(?) run to DQ. Now low to CK. Will West guess knock out DA when his CA>CK? Or will he sense D4 denies D:Kxxxx? So H-switch? Or does West have H:KQJxx then H:10 is a 2nd stop?
  22. Surely not ACBL (agreement to open on less than 8 is forbidden) I like 1S with 7-9, 3+S so passable or 14-16 bal. That'll bound the T/O dbl as real values bal or real spades.
  23. The jump 3S must have a minor single/void. 2S is a limited-by-not-double-first. Better defense starts X to rebid 3S/4S.
  24. I run my solid spades through a forcing opening. Spades won't need to preempt the auction, just show at level. So, 3NT(->C-void), 4C(->D-void), 4D(->H-void) show solid hearts AND next-up void. Partner knows HA+void so step asks for other Ace (the one/none step-ask doesn't have) and show kings. Non-step asks control there: A,Kx,single.
  25. What's the other bids/auction plans partner didn't use? This 5S must be some case not handled lower in YOUR scheme. My partnership has no bidding scheme 5S bid over 2H. Control ask is incorporated lower. Spade support is asked lower. Thus 5S must show a spade suit intending to make opponents guess 6H or defend 5S with no lower exchange.
