  1. As I play no bids intend to escape/improve our contract at this level, 5D would highlight D-stuff +black controls wanted to go slam; 5C similar; 5H highlights good trumps needed for slam; 4NT shows both minors held and not misfit Hearts (keys ask surrenderred). I try 4NT with this understanding. 5H when 4NT still key-ask.
  2. Partner did not Redouble with SAx + another card. Did nor 2S with Sxxx + 6 points not in clubs. I expect he has Sxx, HKxx, DJxx, CQ10xxx or nearly. Then hope to push them up, little risk they penalize us. But just maybe Sx, HKxxxx, Dxx, CQ10xxx and 2H is playable. Or Sx, HKx, DAxxxx, CQ10xxx and 2D plays. I try double. Taking my chances.
  3. Upgrade even 4333. But I want partner to declare when he has tenaces. I choose 1D. Expect 1D-1H-1S-1N or 1D-1N.
  4. For slam, partner needs SK +HAK +A of a minor. He'll see going-up after 4H with all that. The close slams where 7xS tricks make slam hope to get 4S(SKx) > 4H. I'd want a minor A instead of CK to pass and pull.
  5. I have a 2-suiter takeout over preempts: 3D= S+C (expect clubs longer). I'll try that. X: 3-suits or bal. 3C: S+D (expect D>S). 3D: S+C (expect C>S). 2S: 5+S. 2NT: H-stop(s). 3H: stop ask. above 3D: 1-suiter. Not only do I inform partner which quacks are working, but I inform the offensive/defensive fit if they bid on.
  6. I like my S-single for offense. Don't like low hcp even to balance. Get in there with double. May even bounce 4S over our 4H.
  7. Can partner have 3xA +(SK or HQJ or CJ)? I think yes. 4C now, since no previous bid showed real C-suit. Hope partner can 4D= key ask.
  8. Wouldn't this be handled by any weasel by looking at LHO and asking "Does 1H REALLY show hearts?" "How many can he have?" Or even non-weasel taken aback showing "I have hearts" = the same thing?
  9. Maybe it is a good option to bid 2♠ for the advance cuebid. But normally for this hand,I definitely rebid 3♥ to tell my partner that Please start cuebid for a slam try. After 3♥: 1-if opener bid 3♠,I will bid 5♥ to ask pd:Do you have a second control in ♣? 2-if opener rebid 4♣,it is a sound news and then I will bid 4nt . *** You can at best hope for a 3C Q-bid. Now if partner has CA; later with CK. You ARE looking at 3xA! Or some C-splinter: singleton or void?
  10. Another popularity contest instead of something even remotely near an analysis. Where are the sim guys? Even a listing of cases for partner/opponents of xxx? "Listing is not analysis" but at least these cases should be compared. I like 3rd. That at least has a definite count meaning. What is a 5? 54? K65? 5.? Will those times it is unclear be contained by 3rd hand? Or is a defense just lost?
  11. Some Easts maybe, but not many (at least in my area). And if they do, that's fine. I don't mind defending 1Nx, and if they play some kind of forced runout system (ie, they play 1Nxx or run to 2x) I will have a lot of fun doubling whatever contract they end up in (2♦x looks likely). Either way, it is better than 2N-1. *** This started out "comparing systems". So what are your constraints for double intending 1NT-X? Surely denying 5-5 Majors? Bal or may have single/void? Do you think you outscore VUL game when that's on? Or does double suggest not VUL game? So what does that intended penalty double now look like? What hands does partner let penalty play?
  12. "Uncontested auction", but East opens 1NT:10-12 nv.
  13. Go to Bridge Fantasia for a detailed response research to 2NT.
  14. I'm guessing South has SK +CAQ for his free 1NT. Win SA out C10. Win SA +HK +DK is our best score.
  15. Quick question about West's pass over the strong 1♣. Might some people, with 12 high card points and a good 5 card suit, overcall 2♣ with the west hand? A lot of people like to compete prety agressively over a strong club, even at unfavorable. *** Don't like this suit for 2C. BUT opponents WILL get to 2S or 3C, NOW WHAT??? *** Should we go 3H? North sees shape without defense, yes, this hand. *** Part of system comparing is "how well placed are we in competition?" *** What defense/offense inferences are known to your systems? Esp. on this auction?
  16. Thanks hrothgar. Changed my structure to enable a delayed H-ask, as you showed.
  17. 1C-1D- 1S-1N-....... 16+,4+S .......... 5-7, no likey Sp 2D-2H. ...... 5+D,no like NT ....4+H ............. 3+H, 16-18 so quit.
  18. 1. As others, 6-suit to AK with shape insists 4H. Primes: AK+AK accepts. 2. T/O Dbl NOT ASKING OTHER MAJOR RISKS JUST SUCH RESULTS. Take your bad result in stride, since you (I assume) think this hand is too strong to overcall (so, must X 1st). What do you play overcall, then double shows? Good suit for overcall AND non-minimum, but not accenting other major seems correct.
  19. What bid asks "tell me more?" Esp. min/max, 2nd suit, extra length, good controls. Use that advancer-taking-charge bid. You designed that into your scheme, surely.
  20. Out of this one as I open 1D: 14-17 bal OR a RED-SUIT FORCE.
  21. ................J9852 ................void ................J76 ................AT962 ................AQT ................K7653 ................AQ4 ................QJ 1C-1D- 1NT-3C- 3H-3S- 4S. This hand much relies on responder's negative to come alive. Over 1NT, 2-suit is quits, so jump 3C.
  22. I play this as "I need prime cards in the side suits". I have help-suit 3m, 3H <3S. And a 2NT: "tell me your short".
  23. .............AQT32 .............Q83 ............J ............9864 .............65 .............AKT6 .............KQ965 .............AK . 1D-2H- .14-17bal OR 18+ H,D,HD,HC,DC - .8+,5+S . 2NT-3NT. .stops, no S-fit, you extras? - .min
