  1. Ya I led the highest non jack heart. I think it should be suit preference when you underlead in this kind of spot. For what it's worth no lead was beating it.
  2. It's not as clear of a duck as it seems at first since if RHO guards clubs, he can shift to a club, and importantly if LHO guards clubs, if he guards hearts also then he will be squeezed out of his spade(s) on the run of the diamonds and we will still make it by then just driving the club. Also in the highly unlikely event that RHO guards clubs/hearts/spades we are gonna squeeze him in allllllll the suits if we win :P. So against perfect defense ducking only gains when LHO has 4 clubs and RHO guards hearts, and will blow a trick against 3-3 clubs. That being said I would still duck, RHO will not always (or even usually) find a club shift if he guards clubs, everyone might not be in 6N, and even if they are some people will go down on a spade lead even when LHO guards H+C since they will forget to run diamonds first (even if you cash 3 clubs and then start cashing diamonds it is too late).
  3. Unlucky that your partner forgot to respond.
  4. I like passing more than most in this spot but I would bid 3NT with this hand.
  5. I agree with the second part, I was thinking of maybe a low heart in case partner has the DQ and RHO has the king. Obviously it requires a parlay, but it also does not cost that often; I'm not sure what the odds of losing to their stiff king (when we could have beaten it otherwise) is. If we changed our diamonds to the AQ I think underleading the heart is a stand out. Obviously that's a different hand and requires much less of a parlay, but I thought the theme might be similar here. I thought the tempo suggested 4126 in dummy to be somewhat likely (or a heart void in which case underleading will be better than leading the ace).
  6. Lol I was actually curious what people thought the right lead was
  7. x AJxxxx AJxx xx w/w imps. You open 1H and the auction goes 1H (2C) 4H (4S) 5H (5S) AP You don't play precision but your partner likes to bid 4H a lot in these spots. RHO's 4S bid was in tempo (waited ~10 seconds), your LHO was pretty happy to bid 5S given the normal tempo in this kind of auction (maybe 5 seconds). Your lead?
  8. I like 1S 2H 3N as a lighter splinter than 4m
  9. Even if you don't think about it the theme is "set up a trick"
  10. Trying to get them to bid 6 is extremely optimistic with zero tricks to me lol. I would just bid 4H and let nature take its course.
  11. Unfortunately it is a partnership game and your partner will think you are 6-4. That will probably wind up badly for you. I don't understand why RHO bidding 2D instead of us playing 1N is necessarily good for us anyways.
  12. The south hand is not a light overcall, it's a normal one. I think it is bad hand evaluation to think that it is "not up to strength", it has aces, a pretty good suit, 6-4 shape, even the right singleton. It is the kind of hand you are thrilled if your partner bids 3N with, you're happy if he competes in diamonds, you're happy if he doubles them, you're even happy if he makes some kind of responsive double. You are not happy to pass throughout, stuff like this happens.
  13. So, BB GOAT in other words. If I could go back 10 years in time and draft a team I got Bellichick as a higher pick than Brady.
  14. Seems hard to get to the 5 level if you have this auction, responder has a slam force if partner bids again over a signoff. Of course opener should not bid again over a signoff needing 2 aces + more from a partner who signed off.
  15. Honestly the best part of the expert forum is it made the beginner forum much better, and it makes I/A better. Let's not forget what it was like when it was b/I and a/e. There was tons of bickering since everyone thought they were advanced and would post in a/e. Then people would say zomg post in b/I! This also made the beginner area non accessible to true beginners since hands like end plays and squeezes might be posted in b/I since some people thought intermediates could obv do this. The truth is 90+ percent of posters are intermediate or advanced. Many intermediates think they are advanced. I/A is a logical forum since it crosses over and there are less feelings hurt. As a result this makes the beginner forum a place where true beginners can get their hands answered in a suitable forum for them and everyone plays nice. The expert forum has had some good stuff though it is largely dead right now I think it has a place. It does seem like there is a rise in people saying this doesn't belong here or whatever but it's nothing like when it was a/e. I guess you could just have I/a/e but I think there have been times when the expert forum produced some good stuff.
  16. Passing seems pretty reasonable to me in these conditions (which is also how I like to play).
  17. They have to win the king such a small percentage of the time for hooking to be right, and even if you are right about them winning the q 100 percent of the time you gain such little edge, while losing a ton if you are wrong and they are close to random (or worse win the king more than the queen). It is not worth worrying about it even in a practical sense.
  18. My opinion is that 3n is significantly percentage but who knows
  19. Han was such an elite poster lol. Literally loled (but did not roll on floor) from his last post. If they had rep back then I think he would be number one by a mile. On a more serious note the hog did pm me about this thread and my comment, and after a reasonable discussion chose to edit out the nasty part of his post. I thought that was pretty decent of him.
  20. I am gonna go out on a wild limb here and guess the passed hand 3h bidder has a diamond fit so I'm not too worried about that possible plan if defense. Maybe they somehow only have 9 diamonds if they are 6-3 and insane but it doesn't seem too likely.
  21. I find these mirages quite interesting from a psychological view, obviously without the SQ eagles (and others) would not have this blind spot. There are lots of situations like that and you see it even at the very highest levels, some unnecessary card clouds your thinking and gets you away from the point. Not trying to pick on you eagles, this kind of thing happens pretty frequently and it's just interesting to me. When I read the hand I was thinking for quite a while about things (like would he shift from the SK?!) instead of seeing the obvious. Though I blame you because when it's set as a problem it's even easier to fall into that trap :P
  22. In that case I am really lucky that today I don't have to say I'm a "bitch professional." But you're right someone with some random knowledge always ruins my sarcastic responses, thanks Mike :P
