i never get private messages, much less anything scandalous. :P

good work!

this goes against the spirit of full disclosure as i understand it from the laws. the opps should be welcomed and encouraged to ask anything they want. if i have an agreement with my partner that a specific natural bid cannot have a specific number of cards in another suit, they should be allowed to know that. i'm particular to this because with my reg p, our natural 1♥♠ opens specifically deny: holding a singleton or void anywhere in the hand 4+ in the other major

does invision support thread-splitting? i've only ever moderated forums using phpBB, but if it's available here it's a very handy feature - you can easily send the offtopic posts to a new thread (usually with a new title ie. "ITT people forget to stay on topic" which helps as a deterrent.

this must be why i don't play 4SF. i would have taken 1♠ as such, and a jump showing a strong 6-5.

i think everyone taking part in this thread has played f2f bridge and is at least partially familiar with the difference between the two; to imply otherwise is, frankly, insulting. this discussion is specifically directed towards play on BBO, where alerts and announcements are not only self-made, but barely distinguishable as they are both inputted in the same fashion. no doubt that one can consciously make a point of inputting explanations for their bids without pressing the alert button itself so that, at least visually, the two can be differentiated by whether or not the bid appears grey. having said that, i dare you to argue that this is consistenly done by more than a small percentage of the BBO general. now that we have dealt with your pedantic fly-by, did you have anything of quality to add to the discussion?

these details, IMO, should be left to the opponents desires. if they want to know if my 1NT denies a spade holding, they should enquire. the logic being that too much unrequested disclosure will bog down the games. as it is i make a point of playing against friends whenever possible to avoid the constant "??????????????????????????" when i take longer than 2 seconds to bid.

i like the idea that there should be -some- kind of scheme on bbo, as the general mode is to alert anything that isn't natural to you, which i'm sure we've determined isn't the same for everyone at an international venue. if i ran the zoo, it would look something like this: - NT range always alerted - 2+ level openings always alerted - all forcing bids alerted as such - all other artificial bids* always alerted * i might exclude slam auctions from this in the name of speed

i wonder how long this type of behaviour will continue before fred is forced to either address it directly or risk losing patronage over it... there's gotta be a threshold somewhere, yes?

Weak jump shifts not legal?

If not discussed, are systems on over 1NT overcall
scoob replied to epeeist's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
according to the actual card, all systems are off except 2♣ stayman. -
i think i've said this before, but i'll say it again: someone needs to start a 'union' of bbo TDs who are either actual accredited TDs or have been trained by the same members of said 'union' could advertise in their tourneys that they are a [union name] approved tournament etc etc. i, for one, would give preference to these tourneys over others, as i'm sure many others would. those who don't care whether a TD actually knows the Laws or not can play anywhere they wish. i feel that over time these union approved tournaments & directors would become the majority and the preference amongst the bbo community. fred has made it pretty clear that he has no interest in undertaking something like this on his own, per bbo's policy - understandably - but that doesn't mean the community cannot take it upon itself.

sounds like gib will only be playing the current system until fred gets back from the nationals http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...indpost&p=78930

see, didn't even occur to me to rough ♣ as extra transport into dummy for that approach. :moron:

when a message doesn't go through are you getting any type of error? if so, is it something the forums are generating for you, or something your browser is giving you (perhaps a popup)? the only times i have ever had trouble posting to a web forum is when the connection between myself and the server is so delayed that my session times out - but that's never happened to me here.
