  1. Not really. Anything flash can do, Java can do, but the reverse isn't true.
  2. A good general rule of thumb is that when aren't sure what a bid shows, it is forcing.
  3. I disagree with the 6♥ bidders. 3NT...5♥ shows a slow diamond holding (Qxxx or QJx, say) , and is asking you for a quick control there.
  4. X->NT So 2NT over 2♣. Will not be embarassed if partner raises this.
  5. The way I usually play it is that a splinter 'surrounds' the J2NT range..either like 10-12 (but treated as GF due to texture, shape, etc) or 16+, perpared to bid again over 4M.
  6. What ever shows game values with a stopper. A bit of an overbid, but, not hugely... Vuln at IMPs I'd rather overbid than underbid. Kinda makes me wish we weren't playing Leb so we had a natural inv. 2NT bid here...
  7. Pass is both cases. P most likely has a weak NT...I don't really forsee taking that many tricks. Yes, I'm selling out and I don't like it. Bidding could easily result in -200 on a bad day, don't feel like there is an obvious plus to protect against, so I'll take my +50 or +100 defending 3♠.
  8. My machine is nothing especially fantastic by modern standards - a 2GHz single-core CPU with 1GB of RAM. I've seen these same games run smoothly on much lower spec machines also. I'm not sure how you're actually implementing the animation. Here's one example - http://www.flashgames247.com/play/205.html That runs very smoothly for me on my work machine (which is even lower spec than my home machine - a 1.2GHz G4 with 1GB of RAM). That's a full motion sidescroller too. I'm not saying that's it's trivial, but people have certainly found ways to do it...
  9. I find this rather surprising. I know I've seen flash games run smoothly at high frame rates.
  10. 3♥. If my hearts were a bit better I'd take a stronger action. Will have trouble making 3N oppisite something like KQJx x xxxx xxxx
  11. There is so much wrong with the OP (e.g., well, everything), I'm not even going to bother deconstructing it...
  12. Look at it this way...give partner about the worst possible hand he can have (and the given hand is VERY close), and game is still almost an even chance. Give partner anything extra (Q!C for instance) and it's practically cold. In other words, put me with the 4♠ bidders.
  13. Well, how many top pairs play it in major competition? (Zero, that I'm aware of.) The opening structure strikes me as very theoretically very poor. Polish Club solves the same problems Rozencrantz had with SA better, while still remaining largely a natural system.
  14. X = Penalty, but may not be beat in hand off the top. Partner has shown some values here, after all. Axxx x KQxx Kxxx
  15. My problem with constructive raises is that you can have the auction: 1♥-1NT-2♦-2♥ on: ♠xxx ♥Qxx ♦Qxx ♣Qxxx or ♠xxx ♥xx ♦Kxx ♣AQxxx This to me is far worse than having a 4/5 point range on 1M-2M
  16. I think some of you might be misreading 1NT...I'm guessing it's an Overcall Structure (or similar) bid, and purely takeout. (e.g. short spades, decent values)
  17. Card showing X doesn't promise a trump holding.
  18. No, I'm sorry. My caffiene-deprived morning brain was seeing the hands as W and N, rather than E and S...
  19. This diagram makes no sense. Convention is to put opening leader as W, Dummy as N, and your hand as E
  20. South Deals, NV, Swiss Teams ♠xx ♥AKJxxxx ♦x ♣xxx ♠AKxx ♥xxx ♦AK ♣AKJx Our actual auction was a bit unscientific... 2NT (22-23) - 3♦ 3♥ - 6♥. We actually won IMPs the board as the other table went +400 on these cards (I'm not sure of the story...I'm guessing some sort of confusion ending in 5♣ or something.
  21. Constructive raises are the worst treatment ever. I'd rather play F------y than CR.
  22. 3♣ - Yes, an overbid, but 2♣ is too likely to pass out.
