  1. Am I the only one who plays 2♦ here as non-forcing?
  2. It's funny, I just checked the ABCL General CoC, Swiss Teams CoC, and KO CoC, and none of them say anything about switching system, either positively or negatively.
  3. Minors. With a hand just short of an invite and some hearts, responder should be laying the wood to 2♥.
  4. Both hands are much less of a problem if the 1♦ bids were replaced with 1♥. IMO those that open 1m with 5M-6m shape (Even moreso 5-5) are completly nuts.
  5. Here was the actual auction...alerts provided from the prospective of the person making the bid...and for general amusement. 1♦ - (2CL) - X (Opps silent from this point on) 2NT - 3♣ (Pick a major...) 3NT - 4♣ (Really pick a major) 4♦ (0 Aces) - 5♥ (Maybe this will lead to good things...) 6♥ (Trusting partner...) Dummy flopped with ♠ Kx ♥ KQx ♦ JTxx ♣ KQxx
  6. Most of the good structures I've seen use relay responses by opener, which is non-GCC (Relay started before openers rebid)
  7. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=saqxxxxhajxxxxdxc]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♦ - (2♣) - ?[/hv] If you X, partner will bid 2NT.
  8. Unfortunatly my understanding is that this treatment is NOT GCC.
  9. I don't really get the point of it, seems inferior to plain NMF to me. Not only are you giving up more bids, you're giving up the distinction of e.g. going through NMF vs rebidding the major. Transfers work best when the hand transferring has a good idea where the hand is headed, which is much fuzzier on these kind of sequences than over, say, a strong NT opening.
  10. More than that...N asked several questions about the various bids (after 2♥), and the hand shown bid 3♣, which made when N hits with Axxxx of hearts and Jx clubs and diamond shortness. We actually got about an average on the board... scores were: NS +150 (3N-3) NS +150 (2N-3) NS +110 (3C=) NS +100 (2H-2) NS +50 (2H-1)
  11. Btw, if anyone smells a director call in this, you'd be right. I'll post the details in a few days.
  12. A couple of problems for the stats geeks. These all ACTUALLY happens in my last two sessions of hand-shuffled club play. What are the odds of holding a 30 HCP hand? [hv=s=sakthakqdakxcaqj]133|100|[/hv] What are the odds of a player bidding and making 7NT. Part 1: On two consecutive boards Part 2: Three times in a nine board stretch
  13. [hv=s=sakxhxxdatxxxckjx]133|100|1♦ - (p) - ?[/hv] Playing *STRICT*, by the book SAYC. Yes, I know Inv Minors/Crisscross insert your forcing raise method makes this trivial. That ain't what I'ma sking.
  14. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=skxxhxdakxxcktxxx]133|100|Scoring: MP (P) - P - (1♦)(1) - P (1♥) - P - (1NT)(2) - 2♣ (p) - p - (2♦) - p (2♥) - p - (p) - ? (1) - Precision style, 1+ ♦ (2) - 13-15 Bal/Semibal[/hv]
  15. What was 3♥? My preferred method is 2♠ -> 3♣, 2NT -> 3♦. If opener bids the in-between bid, rather than completing, it denies a good fit. With QJx, Kxx, Axxx, stuff like that, opener completes. Basically, good fit that can support a light 3NT bid. On the given hand, I think 1NT - 2NT - 3♦-3NT is a fine auction for the given hands. A couple of practical notes here. 1N-2C-2any-2NT does not promise a 4 card major. This is how you handle all invites. 1N-2NT is also used on very weak hands with both minors. If opener denies a good diamond holding with 3♣, you play there.
  16. Just as a heads up, Best Buy is currently selling the complete set for $90. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...duct&id=1914343 Picked it up yesterday, one disc in and already hooked. Does it REALLY stay this good the entire series?
  17. Does that mean you need 7 tricks? Is this seven tricks? I thought the spades were only worth 6-7 tricks. With a little extra for the ♦Q but I wasn't sure if it would evaluate to a full 7 tricks. Is 7 tricks really enough all vul? That will be a lot of 200s and worse. True, but you'll prevent opponents from gaining 600/620 fairly frequently also.
  18. Yea, that is what I am trying to get at. I've so far basically been a "raise promises 4" kinda guy, just through osmosis, as that's what Flight A standard seems to be around here, but more and more it seems to be a winning approach to raise to 3 on many hand types. As an addendum, 1NT-1 was actually a slightly above average score.
  19. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=s94hk42dkq74caq86]133|100|Scoring: MP (P) - p - (P) - 1♦ (P) - 1♥ - (P) - ?[/hv]
  20. BTW, to tie this up, I ofcourse bid game (Via 3!C-3!H-4!H), and we were off one. Just checking the 'ole range finder to make sure this is as clear cut as I thought it was at the time.
  21. I don't like a 1N overcall over a hypothetical RHO's opening either. The more I think about, the more I like the idea of playing 1NT as like 17 (possibly a very, very good 16) to 19.
  22. Agreed, pass. 15 HCPs, but very little in the way of actual tricks, looks promising on defense.
  23. Thx for the tourney guys Top 10 were: 1. kenberg 2. clee 3. CanadaGrl 4. TylerE 5. kaloqn 6. jikl 7. barmar 8. mtvesuvius 9. paulg 10. Gerardo/hrothgar (Tie)
