  1. That's because the hand belongs to openers LHO, not opener.
  2. Which is exactly what happened at our table.
  3. I'll break the trend and just complete the relay. My hand isn't SO huge I'm that worried about missing a game if partner was intending to drop dead. From my experience doing something other than completing just tends to endplay partner in the bidding.
  4. I seem to recall that the limit is quite high..something like 40-50 times in a 24 hour period, by a single player.
  5. From a sectional Swiss Hand 1 (Dealer) ♠AQxx ♥- ♦AQxxxx ♣Qxx vs ♠Kx ♥AQxxxxxxx (Yes, ninth!) ♦- ♣xx Hand 2 (Dealer) ♠Axxx ♥KQJTx ♦AJxx ♣- vs ♠Kxx ♥Axxxxx ♦Kx ♣xx
  6. Thanks! (As a side note, in the two canape' systems I play (One strong club, the other Std. Am.-ish, the 2M bids aren't weak. ACOL 2s in one (Awesome when they come up, and systemically we can open the good weak 2s one), and intermediate (10-13 with 6M) in the other. Both seem to work well, and I rarely miss the weak two when not playing it).
  7. Any chance it could be moved up an hour? (Earlier, that is). That's 12PM local for me, and our session starts at 1PM, and I would like to do both.
  8. Fred - Are their systems notes available anywhere? I'd love to have a copy. Strong club canape' has been a particular interest of mine of late.
  9. Sorry for the semi-OT post. Just lost my game for tomorrow at the High Point, NC sectional. Anyone interested? Can play either both sessions or afternoon. EDIT: mike777 and I are now scheduled to play :)
  10. Doh. Just realised it is A*K* of ♥, not Ax. Yea, X then 3[C], nearly wtp
  11. 2♣ instead of X. Looks like a two-suiter for me. X should have at least 3 hearts. That said, I might try 2♣ by responder instead of 2♥, on the theory of keeping the bidding as low as possible on really bad hands. Major only scores more when it makes...
  12. Closer to bidding 6 than passing 4. KC feels about right. Wish 4♠ was better defined.
  13. It's funny that 1♣ = 12-14 bal or 15+ clubs or 18+ any is restricted but 1♣ = 12-14 bal or 17(+)-(20-) bal or 12-22 3+ ♣ is totally unrestricted...
  14. Strongly prefer 1NT to 1♦. Looks like 15-17 balanced to me.
  15. Really? You must like getting stolen from...
  16. Low ♦ for me. We need tricks quick. I want to maintain my finessing position over declarer.
  17. I'd be very tempted to open the example hand 1NT. (And I'd probably accept an invite...
  18. Ugh. Not a fan of the methods. 3♠ is what I dislike least. Would prefer to be able to make an oldschool single raise.
  19. I've played two Canape' systems with different partners over the last year or two. I'd need to know more about the exact system to offer exact recommendations. However, I'd say don't get too hung up on it. Assuming the opening suit shows 4+, just treat it as a 'normal' opening. Opening 1♦ (in a standard system) with 4♥ and 5♦ doesn't cause any real problems for the defense. Opening that same hand 1♥ doesn't either. If the opening is a potentially short 1m, with a possible longer suit, I'd use whatever you use against a Precision 1♦. (2 of openers suit = Good suit, 2OS+1: Micheals, for instance)
  20. Not strictly true, as the number of points needed for LM is greater than the sum of the various pigmented requirements.
  21. <BEGINRANT> If you change anything YOU ARE NOT PLAYING SAYC. Please do not refer to it as SAYC. Please refer to it as "Standard American" or some such. <ENDRANT>
  22. I'd expect it to be a 4 card suit with extras, possibly distribution, not points. The minimum 5/6♠ - 4♥ hands just bid 2♥ over 1NT. On this auction i'd expect 6 or more good spades, 4 hearts, probably not all that great, and a decent hand. Not minimum, but not super strong either.
  23. Playing in the 11PM $5 game... I open 1NT in 3rd or 4th seat, on 2-4-4-3 shape, I think, certainly 2=4 in the majors. The idiot savant staymans the hand, then bids....4♠ over my 2♥ bid, which is alerted as 6+ ♠. 10-12 HCP. GIB flops with a 5=4=1=3 6 count. Despite that, 4♥ has play, whereas the 5-2 spade fit was down at least 2. Ended up coming 2nd by about 150pts...
