I'm working on developing a new strong-club based system and am looking for a partner to give it a real workout. Have (fairly brief) system notes written. System is largely natural, with minimal relays (and only where I thought them needed.) Hope to have a BBO FD card done soon. Skill level is not a concern, but you must have a good memory for systems and be willing to spend a little time reading the notes (not much, the system isn't THAT complex.) Familiarity with a big-club or forcing club (e.g WJ) is strongly recommended, as is some experience (or at least interest) in playing 4 card majors. My general playing hours are from about 7-11PM EST Monday-Saturday, and about Noon-11PM on Sundays. Please contact me @ TylerE on BBO if interested.

I think the reason being that as a playing TD you can't actually go to the table, so it's actually worse than useless. (Of course, personally I'd be more in favor of disallowing playing TD's all-together but that's neither here nor there.)

I like to play 3m over 1M (and 2S over 1H) as fit-jumps, showing 4+ support for partner (occasionally something like Axx or KJx) and a good side suit (typically 5+ cards). Usuaully shortness somewhere. 7(++) - 9HCP.

do you ask for aces?
TylerE replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
No, I just bid 6♦. -
This was just the last straw. I've just seen it do SO much dumb stuff today. Like doubling a slam on a balanced hand with 2 Q's... just on and on.

Something has to be done about GIB. It's just horrible! PLaying on medium speed setting, the following deal was played: [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sj9hkqd9643ckq832&w=st42hat8763dj7ct7&e=sq873hj9d82cj9654&s=sak65h542dakqt5ca]399|300|Scoring: Total Points[/hv] Auction: 1♦ - (2♥) - P - P 2♠ - P - 3NT - AP Opening lead is the J , ducked to dummys king. Notice the hand contains 11 top tricks GIB managed to go down 2 here. At trick 2 it lead the 9♦ off dummy and PLAYED THE TEN from hand. Beyond belief.

Notice the "0.25", as in, quarter cent per point :)

At least here in ACBL-land, I think the use of the 30pt VP scale would make for a fairer event. It really sucks get to a round of very non-swingy boards, outplay the opponents by an overtrick or two, and barely get credit for more than a tie.

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakjxxxhakqjxxdxc]133|100|Scoring: Total Points Auction: 2c - 2d - p - 3c ??[/hv] Event: BBO Money Bridge, 0.25c/pt

I'll admit I did double, and over 4♦ I bid 5♥, hoping partner would know to go on with the right stuff. Of course partner has something like: [hv=s=sxxhtdkxxxxxxcxxx]133|100|[/hv] Oh, did I mention that hearts broke 5-0 and I was down 1 in 5?
-
When you can't chat with someone (due to them being in a tourney), it would be nice if the software allowed you to send a BBO mail for them to read when they finished.
-
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sqhkqjxxxxdcakqtx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Auction has proceeded: Pass - Pass - (3♠) Your plan? (If you start with a double, partner bids 4♦)
-
I'd suggest something similar, but different. I would suggest the option to kibitz a 'player' rather than a table. You'd then be able to see that pleyer's cards and dummy, but no others.
-
I'd be interested, if a partner could be arranged. Play a number of systems...2/1 or (ich) SAYC if nesseary, but prefer some sort of strong or polish club system. Willing to spend time in partnership bidding, etc. Convenitons etc are negotiable, know most common stuff and generally learn new ones pretty easily as long as we're not talking pages of relays.

The ideal situation would be to have the forums and wiki both driven off the BBO login accounts. Most of the major wiki packages support required registration for editing, and tying the the registration in with the BBO database shouldn't be too difficult.

Announcing BridgeWiki!
TylerE replied to TylerE's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Wikipedia is a general audience site. What I'm envisioning is more along the lines of: http://senseis.xmp.net -
http://bridgewiki.tylereaves.com BridgeWiki is a new informational site about bridge. Users are welcome to submit articles and writeups. Hope everyone checks it out!

http://bridge.tylereaves.com/freedeals.php On my website I have posted several free sets of practice deals for partnership bidding. Enjoy!

Both very good points. After referring to the ACBL General Convention Chart, it appears that my 2NT opening isn't legal anyway. It's legal to use it to show both minors, and I think I will use it for that, and push major suit two-suiters back into the one of a major openings. Responce structure over 2NT will be something like: 3♣ - weak hand, ♣ preference 3♦ - weak hand, ♦ preference 3NT - Good major suit controls, 15+HCP, at least two cards in each minor 4♣ - inv, ♣ preference 4♦ - inv, ♦ preference etc, etc, As for pt 2... Hrrm, it's tempting... I'm not quite sure how to handle 4405 hands. On the other hand, that's such a shockingly rare pattern I'm not that worried about it. Might make it something like... 2♣ with GOOD clubs, and 1♦ with poor clubs.

System notes, such as they are can be found at: http://bridge.tylereaves.com/tarheel-precision.php Right now I've got definitions for the opening bids and the basic 1c responces. Tarheel Precisions main defining features are: A slightly weaker big club, transfer positive repsonces, low level keycard asks when a fit is established, and very light non-vulnerable openings. Would be very interested in any feedback, etc

As a Precision player I'm often somewhat frustrated by the lack of fellow precision players to play with. So I thought I'd start a list. What I do on my G4 iBook is use Remote Desktop to my Windows XP desktop. Not an ideal soultion since it requires an operational XP machine, but certainly something to look into.
-
One time this is a big issue is when you've registered in a pairs tourney with a pick up partner, and they're invisible. Near as I can tell there is no way to chat with them pre-tourney to finalie conventions, etc.

Update: I've gotten it to work quite well under Ubuntu Linux, Wine 0.9.6. Not quite flawless, but very, very, playable
