Pick up, IMPS, red/white 1. What do you open? 1♥ 2. how would you rate a bid of 4♥ 0/10000000000000...asking to go for 800 against a partscore. Too much defense to be worth a psyche. Might push the opps into a 22pt 4♠ contract that is otherwise unbiddable. Chances of making 4♥ are basically zero. Is this worth a 2♥ overcall (all red, IMPS) P 1S -? Sure.

An important point here is that you should on playing strength and distribution rather than HCP. I've got a long list of 500, 800, and 1100's (and even a few 1400s) from those who thought that an opening hand entitled them to enter into my power auction.

Would it temper your comments any if I told you that over the first double I had the following options: 2NT -> Relay to 3♣, either preemptive club raise or prelude to a slam try. 3C -> Constructive club raise (Like 8-12 or so) I thought I had already overbid by a bit with initial 2♦ bid, or was at least dead minimum for it.

A typical sectional is two days of MP pairs, followed by an all day swiss teams.

The field is dynamically stratified by pair total. Top third = A Middle third = B Bottom third = C Actually a much more fair way of doing it than most club games, actually.

Ok, lemme own up. I doubled, of course, and after LHO jumped to 3♠ partner trotted out the semi-dreaded 4♥. which was not a success in the moysian. After the hand, partner berated me quite strongly for doubling with this hand. Just doing a little reality check. Well, since the number of hands is far, far (likes millions) of times less than the number of non-competitive auctions, it is possible for one hand to show the EXACT cards it's holding.

A reasonable format would probably be 4 team KO brackets, a tourney starting as soon as at fills, perhaps flighted. Have 2 rounds of, say, 8 or 10 boards a piece. Random draw in the first round, then in the 2nd segment the two winners play for 1st, and the two losers play for 3rd.

Are you going to teach full K-S "by the book", including some of the funky rebids? I'm an expirienced weak NTer, but have always wanted to learn true K-S. I actually have the book around somewhere, but never really taken the time to dig into it.

Sounds like the proposed scheme is a near reinvention of Meckwell: X - A single minor or both majors 2C - Clubs + M 2D - Dia + M 2M - Natural 2N - Minors Which is not a bad scheme, and in fact my defense of choice if I have 30 seconds to discuss NT defense with pard. Given my choice, I'd much rather play HELLO: X - Penalty 2C - Relays to 2D, Diamonds or a Major/Minor 2D - Hearts 2H - Majors 2S - Spades 2N - Relays to 3 Clubs, either a club hand or a near-GF in one of the other suits 3C - Minors 3D - Majors, strong 3M - Long broken suit

Well, I'm an (infrequently active) BBO TD, so I can run it if no one else is available.

Any thoughts on doing this on a more regular basis? Every other week, or once a month say? Perhaps with rotating scheduling, so that it's open to all time zones.

Well, technically Youth is up to 18... Junior is up to 28. As a 23 year old, I certainly am far far junior of everyone I play against f2f.

With both teams palying the boards in the same order that should be minimized.

Well, theory, according to most standard agreements, 1M-4M shouldn't have an outside A or void.

The people who play at a reasonable pace find the normal tourneys unbearably slow. Who wants to wait 10 minutes after every round?
