  1. Hey tonight I "inheret" a board with restrictions. (I don't use them myself:)) Suddently North leaved the table, and I was "unlucky" or popular, so I recived several asking at once. The program put the player north on place, but since several had asked at once, it would place players in E and W too. (not nice to those that was seated:)) I denied, but I felt lousy about it, because negative responses is always bad, and the player don't know the reason for refusal. Is it possible to fix this? (or was I just unlucky:)) Else it is a Great progam!:D
  2. Agree with you JG, that teaching tables is great, and that much can be done there:) But as we all know, school is nice and give us some basic directions, but you need real life to learn the trade, so also with bridge. Let me put this stright forward at once, I don't think this is a great problem since we have friend list, the abillity to make notes and so on, but I think more on new members and their approch to the BBO exspirience, when they don't have such list. If they have bad luck, they might vanish. The reason for me to suggest this, is because I know it hurts when someone yell at you because he/she don't think you are what he/she want you to be.(often they are bad themself, and need a p to lift them:)) ( I think many of the real good players have the relax feeling, that allow them to make a good tutor, and they will never yell or leave in anger, because they know they can their trade!:D) So only take my post as a "thought in the wind", most of the time there are relaxed and fun brigde, and as my friend list grow my days on BBO is something to look forward too:) (you don't need the helper link, I think the abillity to block your score, will make the same relax feeling, just look for the popularity of the hand viewer, most people don't like red figures:)) and since you must decide to block your score before playing, there is no one that can use it as a "helper" to get rid of bad score. And if he think that this beginner or whatever is so good, that he want to play for real, then he just resets before next deal. (and then the big bummer comes:)) For the need to know a players level, so is that a tricky one:) I have playd ageinst beginners, who makes better card play then some with expert in their profile:) I have just promoted myself from beginner to int..., but many times I think I better go back down:) I think the only way to learn is to play..read..play..read..:):):)
  3. Just a thought I will make forward. How to help our "beginners" I have been with you for almost 6 months now. With severeal occations a "beginner" or "novice" attend an ongoing table, and this resoult in many "partner" leaving because they refuse to play with them. Other play, but leave after a few games. I am not better then the rest, allthough I try for a few, and then leave with a smile:) Many times beginners come into bad contracts,or destroy good ones, and instead of taking this as a learningprosess they leave and makes oponents and partners angry for that too, so it is a bad circle. Why is so few willing to help out? I think many don't like to "spend" their IMP*S , or whatever on this "teachingprosess. We all have our self pride to make it as best we can, even if we can't do anything with those points, we collect, afterward:) I suggest that you on each table makes the option "the helper" so if I sits X and a beginner sits in on Z, and I accsept this, I can have the option to push "helper" before the deal. Now evrey game after this will be credit the "helper" link (just as another player) (P and o get their point as usal)This way "bad" games will not affect the status of the helper, and I think (or hope) that we all will get, or give, a more plesant meeting with our "beginners", and they a better approch to the game:) If the helper link was active in a room, I think another great option would have been" Discuss the play before next deal?" Y/N. In order to help out the beginners to find posetive people to play with I suggest that you in our profile makes a "X" box. If we feel for it, we mark this one, then a icon(hand, smile or..:D) comes on our profile (just as the star) and beginner can ask us with more confident. Hope something was useful:)
  4. started on the study today:) look promissing. Now I have to go hunting for a partner that can read:):o Good work:)
  5. I understand you. But I think Roland has a point, as long as the software alow players to see all hands. Now, I don't think it is a common problem (many who use irq and so on) So if you are thinking on the possibillity all the time, you will destroy your own plesure of the game. I recommend that you try to forget it, and rather make a polite withdraw from tables where players make impossible wins, and make your own remark on their profile:) But, as Roland, I think most of the player are just like you and me, love the game for the games sake:)
  6. ;D ;D ;D ;D There you see, language problems, or maybe my way to say thing, since I don't have the flower of the English language:) My post was just general spoken, not my intend to blame you:), or anyone else. My post is a resoult as a member on several gamesites(RPG*S), and how they develop over time, with small toleranse to new members, and then complaining that there is so little action going on.(i.ow non friends on the site) Agein, my intend with this post is only to give my opinion, and since I haven't seen one bad post in this community, I have nothing but a big smile to you all:);) And remember I never asume that I have the facit to any solution, even if I might sound so:)
  7. In my opinion, no. The more you classify people, the more it is possibillity for clique, and in the long run that will destroy a community. It should not be important what skill level you have, but what you have to say, if a question makes you react, then fine, then we react to the question ;), and not to the "lowest skill level we will interact with":) But I can see the point, if a world class player shall give advice to a beginner he must make an effort to make it simple:) But I think the question itself will give away "skill level" in bridge, but then agein we have to take into account langauage problems. An English beginner may ask a better question than a foreigner expert, an so on. So agein, in my opinion, it will be best to interact with all with kindness, as long as they behave:)
  8. installed the beta yesterday, and my first impression is good, I l"love " the comment felt. When I had playd for a while, and just when last card was laid on the table, I should write a shat message, then I was on my desktop???? I was logged of. Since this is not a nice way to leave a good company, I hurried back on, and now my problem arised. I could't remember which table I was on. I tried movie from the site, but no, I logged of agein and took it from my computer. Then back, and managed to explain it for my fellow players. From this exspirience I have the following question: " Is it much work to have a link on your profile that shows your last gamehost" If not, then it would be a nice op, if it is, I agree that you have good solutions as it is:) Good work ;)
  9. Agree with you:) Why do I then post? Well have just installed the new ver of BBO software, and started to use the abillity to ad your own coment on players. I think this abillity will solve much of the lack of a rating system. In my opinion players that are cruel, or complain much,or give the impression of beeing better player then they are, will go into a harder future, and that is good:P BBO,I like your new program, YOU are the best ;D
  10. Thanks for feedback ! I will try the sound fix. And as bad as it sound, it is always good to know that I am not alone about a problem ::) Thanks to you both ;D
  11. First of all: this is not a complain, and since there are no common howling about it, it may be due to my pc. As operating system I use ME, have firewall. When I logg into BB evrything is fine. When I have played for more than 1 hour, the mouse marker start to "hang" on the choise boxses, ie cards and betting boxses. Instead of one click to give a card, I must use several. Since the delay starts gradually, you starts to do wrong because the brain says you click on another card, but the marker hang on something else:) Yesterday it stopped so I could not take any choises, so I had to leave in the middle of a lousy contract, and that I felt lousy about!!!! The mouse itself work nicley outside those boxes, so it has nothing to do with cleaning or the mouse itself. In order to fix the problem, I have left, restarted and come back, and evrything is back to normal for a while. Are there any clever person that can tell me how to fix this problem?, I belive it can have something to do with active x, but I am not a clever man on this field:) (I don't want to have the oponents to belive that I use this as an exuse for "bad" playing:))
  12. I am glad you became involvd, and I am sure we all have to be better taking those "small kids" that never have learned how to behave. It is a pitty, but "some" people use the net to get out their frustration, while they think they are safe at home:( As for complaining on partner, oponent and so on, it is just one thing to say, look on yourself, even an exspert dosen't make it right evry time. That is the fun with the game:) The day you can it all, that day you have to start learning, or become ignorant:):)
  13. In my opinon, this is the only way to see bridge, if you have another opinion, then I suggest that you do bridge for living ::) Good thoughts DH :)
  14. Hello from Norway. Have loved bridge for a long time, but never had the time for playing it serious (club) Have tried out both zone and Yahoo, but my vote goes to Brigde Base :) Hope to see you on my next table ::)
