In a way I can understand the unconf feelings when an "enemy" kib ones table. But if you have no options, why not try it another way. Welcome your guest..give him/her... smiles and polite chat., even if you sits red in the face and it steams from your head. What do you think will happen? I am sure if they don't like you...they will vanish, but maybe they start thinking that they have done you wrong and start to like you....maybe all was "dumb" feelings and pride that somehow darken your relations... This is given in a common way and must not be taken as the only solution, but it might work, an in my opinion, "PRIDE" is one of the greatest fault we have:) Have a nice day. Edvin

I see that some people try to see some negative in the country filter, I can't understand how. I remb back when the first question for such a filter came, I could not see the use of it...how wrong I was. Look at the speed BBO grow. the lobby display will soon (or is) on its limit to give usefull info. In order to bring it down to a personal good infopage it must be narrowed down. Here the country AND friend list will be great. The friend list will grow with members from all countrys around the world (yes bridge is universal :D ) and if you then only choose 1 or two country to display with this list, you can manage to look at it without to much fuzz.....I think  Edvin

Version 3.6.3 Available For Testing
Rhutobello replied to fred's topic in BBO Announcements and Special Events
Have tried out lates ver. I have noticed that in playroom the abillity to get up the infoscreen for O and P is hard. You must have the marker in a certain pos. and it takes longer time before the info display. I have also noticed that the cardplay go somhow slower (from click to action). I have not altered anything on my PC or on tools on BBO. The big screen is nice....the prog is  :( :) -
Thx Fred for your posetive reply, and agein thx for a superb software and club:) I was back on BBO and played around with Country filter. I think you can achive what I have in mind if you inklude "friends" as a country. That way we can mark "friends" and for exsample our own country, and get a nice selection of exellent players  or we can exlude friends if we only want to se who is from that country over there and what friends I have there :( (that is the way it is now) Good luck! Edvin

I played around with the country filter and liked it. But I have a suggestion, let friend filter overide countryfilter, that way you will be able to build up a nicer selection from all country...but still narrow down the total selection to one country:)(LOL hope I have made this right:))

opinion needed --can TD boot people from tournament ?
Rhutobello replied to Rain's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I agree too B) As long as the criteriea is given, booting is not an option, it is a must ::( If not, no one will respect the criteria next time, and you will get "pepper" from those who are inside the requerment. Edvin -
TD adjusting score without checking
Rhutobello replied to KjellH's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
I too direct here on BBO. It can be very hectic, adjustments, substitutions, calls every round! I have been in that situation many times. What I will do is give AVE to the board, then when I get time (hopefully) will go and review the board ( and review it again!), and properly adjust I am sure it is not easy to direct any tourny, and online must be the hardest. When that is said, I must agree with KjellH that do it the way he exp, is not good bridge at all. In my opinion should no score have been adjust before you clearly can see the fault, and who have done it. If you are easy with adjusting, you only give yourself problems because more people will complain in hope for an adjustment in their favour, even if there is no hold in their case, and they will bring this with them to next tourny and all of you will recive more calls. So in my MHO be carefull with changing score and be sure they are right done 8) Edvin -

First let me again say that the club is fine, the founders have done a great job and so on B) B) (and it is from my heart!) The reason for me to respond this time is for those of you that promote no problems. I know that I will never will reach advance level in bridge, because I have never time to study or to play therfore the club will never be any goal for me! On the other hand I am fond of BBO, and it is BBO that I fight for, taken from the way I see it. If we all say halleleluja, BBO don't get any thoughts that might help them on the next crossroad. So you can be for something or ageinst it, that is both good, and give your thoughts, but DON*T say there are no problems, because problems will there always be, one way or another. Just look to beg-int club, just look to all discussion about who are an expert, who are not.....Feelings are strong forces! Agein Good luck :D Edvin
-
Hey Claus, I think you can be a bit harsh here B) I also think we are shooting on the wrong people ::) The founder of Top Flight have done a great job, and the partisipants will surly be great players, and I think they will be great to watch. I wish them all the luck B) BBO on the other hand might have slept in the prosess. A) They have not put up clear limitations for the club. B)Have they asked themself: When you take away the gold members (or a Strong group)from main club, you promote another great group of players to be the highest-ranking member of the same club. These players have had the opportunity to play against "better” opponents, but this is now taken away. They will first try to attend High Flight, if this is impossible, and there are no way they can qualify, they will start feeling that BBO give them no challenge, and may leave. This will always promote next group forward, and the same feelings will again rise. C) If such a club was nessesary for BBO to promote itself, it should be done from BBO, with a board who determind who shall be member. I think the founder of the club have been "very nasty" ageinst it's gold members with following statement: Now, stars are able to bring in non-star players if they so choose. They do not have to, but they may. So, not everyone will have a star, but most will. I can imagine they will be floaded with request, and favour from friends or for friends of friends and so on, and if one say no, they can always go to the next ::) (That's why rules are important 8)) Good luck ;D Edvin

hi:) It is a connection indicator. If it becomes red, it tell that the person is about to loose connection. If it stays red, you will get the message "nn hast lost con to bbo, seat are now resv for nn" Hope this exp it:) Edvin
-
Agree with you, but that is not what I had in mind:) If you look at the headline, it announce "gold star club" If the requerment is clear. You have to be a gold star to attend, then ok! But it seams that an advance player (not personly attac on any) at least are member of this club. What about those >1000 equal or better players? Who will judge them. From another thread have Fred himself said that he will not stand judge on people on this level. Who can, and with it give a good an solid rejection of a membership. I have kib several "gold star", that has adv players as regular partners. What if they want to attend? Shall they be valued, or just let in? There are many questions here, and the only reason I ask them is that it can be many hurt feelings, and in my opinion a lot of discrimination. If other then "gold Star" can attend, state so..give spesefic info about what criteria you need to have in order to aply (don't be afreid..I am beginner/int:)), or just call it Mine friends club and give your own criteria 8) On the other hand I might have missunderstand the whole thing ::( Edvin
-
Congrat with new club. Now we have one in the bottom (beg-int) and one in the top. The one in bottom I can understand, because it has spesefic goal to make better players. The one in top, I am not so sure of. Will we maybe see the start of click gathering? Boundery coming up here and there. Who is next out? Advance players? We have an old children song, that goes..sorry for you:You can't play in our garden and so on.. I am maybe a bit harsh here, and I am maybe not fully awear how the club will work, but I am awear that if you start to make restrictions, other want to have some too, and the more you split up the community, the less community it becomes, and more like our world, with all the clever plans to keep things gooing. (I am not ref to last event) But hopfully I am wrong. Will the club just be used for starting points for tournys- team match, then ok. I still hope to see some of you in the main bridge club:) Edvin

Hi JoAnne :) I don't think this forum support different colors. The good thing is that SkrShawk is working (or thinking ;D)on a new "forum" model. You can read about it here: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...y;threadid=1099 or you can take a direct look here: http://www.bridgebase.lunarpages.com/ipb/ It is just a beta ver. It will not be updated. If you find it better, give your thoughts to SkrShawk under the thread. Have a nice day :D Edvin

adress on site for hand viewer
Rhutobello replied to drmartin's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
HI...the adress for "my hand" use to stay in the news section in BBO. But here we go with it, put it in your fav links ;D http://bridgebase.lunarpages.com/cgi-bin/history.pl Have a nice day 8) Edvin (hmmm, my mother never told me I was twin (just kidding) ;D -
I cab see your point ;D But I must say, even if this might be easy to do(i don't know how hard it is), I doubt it will give you the benefit you will assume. :B) In several cases we have discussed "expert player" and the inflation this tittle has on "people who can set their own standard". Will not go in on that point here, but will recommend you to use your "comment option" for each player. (right click player..colum to right). This will, over time, give you and other a great tool to who are expert player and who are not. You can restrict your table, and look at each profile before allowing them to play,. (but you might loose some friends to come with that option:)) Good luck 8) Edvin
-
It is possible to put up a recepie for what an expert need to know. ::) But since BBO is a social club, with no exam to enter, we will always be stucked with opinions about one owns abillity, and others opinions about the rightness of this abillity. (and opinions are far from facts who ever have them B)) From my point of veiw, a polite nice novice, is much better to play with then an "expert" who complains over partners abillity the whole time, and then run away in the middle of the hand because they have reached a dumb contract. You can now say that this was not an expert,,agree,, but who can tell after just a few games...maybe he/her was an expert, but just a rude expert B) So I do like Ben, recommend you all to start to use the comment field for each player you encounter (right click name, write in field to the right) In a short time you will be able to get rid of many expert (if that is what you want to play with) and maybe gived some nice opinions about int..adv..players instead ;D But I am sure this discussion will come up from time to time ;D Have a nice day from an Int 8) Edvin

Rhutobello replied to Rhutobello's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
think that one of the key issues which may be glossed over is that perhaps we should introduce the idea of playing BBB at the beginners, learners and intermediate club Thx John, yes indeed you are right ;D I think intro exsotic bidding, will not give us that much ::o So your thoughts about this are absolute right ;D Have a nice day ;D -

;D ;D Agree with you Misho, both on difficulty, Fred and Ben ;D ;D After attending some lessons in B/I lounge, I must say that those expert and world class players that have given lesson, have been great. Luis made that pice of art to employ evry member of the group, and I think he got an record in postings, so if they where standard, no problem ;D ;D But yes, not all are fit for such an event. What to remember here is that non is playing for the world cup and the audience are people that more "look up" to the players, rather then look for fault made by them ;D Have a nice day ;D -

Thanks Free, I am glad you see it that way ;D however your statement: The biggest problem would probably be that we'll waste a lot of time by explaining everything, and if we get a real difficult problem it's going to take for ages. I see it quite oposite. I agree we will slow down number of games we can watch or play, but I belive we will gain much more in quality time and a couple of " AhA experience" Thanks ;D -
Hey kfizzle ;D Your thoughts are mine even if I am nearly 3 times your age 8) I think what we was playing was a "simple Goren" (from point and opening description)and that made me happy for many years. Then I stopped playing for a while. Now 25 years later it is "outdated" or I start to feel that I played in a to narrow company before ;D ;D You are right that BBO with it's game room and Forum is a great place to learn. I think you have made the right chooise to learn SAYC, who most people play. 2/1 is also a pop system which will give you a bit more controll, on the card, and still many pick up partners ;D The best system however is to get a regular partner ;D ;D That way you can use what you have learned, and you both understand the meaning of the bet. Yes there are many exsotic systems out there, but if you shall play online I would go for those two or maybe take a look on acol. The difference between different biddingsystem can other much better explain, but it show the diversity of Brigde, and that you can achive your goal in many way, but non will give you the exsact answer ;D (but in order to grow to an expert player you have to know about them, or your ops will trick you around ;D) Cyou on BBO ;D
