  1. A couple of things to note, experts often don't agree on what to bid on any given hand (have you ever read the bidding problem hands and the so many different answers), and everyone makes mistakes at bridge (experts just a lot fewer), so keep all that in mind while watching. Yes, just my point. Brigde is GREAT just because there are no simple solutions, but rather several that can give the right resoult. If brigde was science, then there would be no fight, and no one to play, because facit was there ;D I also agrre that few "players" on BBO have an exsact agreement over what they put into each bid. That's why I thought this could be an good idea. In a way it is just like thread with brigdeproblems .(lol just read that you ref to the same ;D) Only this will happen live, and since no one can see two hands, they must try to give thoughts about what they belive makker will tell them and how to tell yours.;D It will give us all, even the strongest player, a value because either you will see that your thoughts are right, or you might see other way to approch problems and solutions ;D Anyway, if anyone will do this, they have my respect same what resoult they achive :)
  2. Hi, and agein thx to all you clever brigdeplayer out there helping beg.- int club. After attending a couple of sessions with comment from you on our play, I came up with a thought (hopfully not my last ;D) Why not turn it around a bit. Let say 4 adv- exp players take a board in beg-int club. When they play they have to comment every step they do to the kibitzer. Exsample ::D North 1 club. East: since noth say 1 club he must have and I have y I will respond z. South: since p open he must have xy point and the best way to show him my card is to say wx. West :Since all my compenions have talked so much I think I say pass (just kidding) I think this can be very informative for us, and since brigde is a game that have no ""exsact recepie" I think we can pick up many a good idea for our own development ;D Agein, it is just a idea.....and my name is not Einstein ::) Have a nice day :)
  3. First, read the starting question 8) Second, the more tournys BBO host the more awear they have to be, in order to give justice to all. This has nothing to do with players and their abillity to choose another tournament, that we will do anyway 8) It has all about to see ahead, and then I can't see any point in allowing tournys that have no controlling sources 8) Have a nice day ;D
  4. I think we all can agree that we will not have discrimination ::) It is just the way we see it, let us just take this comment: (it must not be taken as an attac on writer, I just use it in trying to explain my thoughts) Discrimination is still a problem, I know that, but its a lot less then years ago. And since there are A LOT OF TOURNAMENTS, I think people should start looking at such tournaments as 'restricted' and not as 'discriminating', that's all. If there was only 1 tournament I'd think about it differently. The start of discrimination is planting of a little seed, that "good people" allow to grow. Suddently it stand as a plant and you must fight hard to get rid of it. And yourself are saying it good in this line: Btw, I still dont see the point of restricting on things you cant see: man/woman, age, haircolor,... But the organizer of that tourney probable does Yes that is right, and since it has no point to the majority of players, no demand for quality in brigde, and there are no way to controll the partisipants fullfillment of the "demand", there is no use in allowing them to start, even if there is no seed of discrimination. How many of your locale brigdeclub assemble 1500 and more players each night? How many national events assemble the same? How many nationes do your local club have playing? As you see, f2f is one thing online brigde is something else. Let us care 8) Have a nice day ;D
  5. I have had some error on my side too. Maybe it is due to server change? ::D Have a nice day ;D
  6. I can see that many posters refering to live brigde, and what is happening there. Well if one club in real life will make a tourny for male only, or something else, it makes more sence to me then if you do the same online. In real life it has a purpose, it is under control, and the audiens and partisipants are verry narrow contra online brigde. Many says "why not allow it" it is just a few that want to play together? Well in my opinion BBO have taken the right stand. If you don't want dicrimination in any form on the site, then you have to set a standard at once! If not, it will be harder and harder to make restrictions bacause people always find a reason why just they should be allowed and not other. I will agein point out Fred's comment on "country" tournaments. You can set "have to understand" Norwegian" not that you have to be a Norwegian. The last requerment will be easy to achive in online brigde, the first one will be a bit harder ;D
  7. ;D ;D ;D Thanks JG we needed that one! ;D ;D ;D But as you know, we are all diffrent. ::) I know that it's few or non "dumb questions", because a question give birth to an answear, which give birth to a discussion and in the end wich will enlighten you one way or another. :D But as sure as there are people with high ego, there are people with" lower thought " (not negativ) about themself. Many of these you will find in the classification Beg, int. And even if "you" have many questions, "you" see rather that another member ask them. Here I can say that I loved John Laird's questions on the site, simple and the answers was excellent, and I hope other will follow, or himself pick it up agein, but I am "sure" I will be the reader for now. ;D Another important point that Ben made was the table and what to expect. If the main thing is to discuss a board with Kibitzer, then close chat to board, and open for question right away and under the whole prossess.. this will give more involvment then asking question after. When deal is finish and if this is a teaching table, open chat to board and discuss general guidng, not personal fault, (the players know already that he/she made a dumb move, so let him/her ask) But I promisse that I shall start to think on a question or two until next session of beg-int. Maybe they can't stop me if I start ....but... ;D ;D Have a nice day all 8)
  8. First of all "Thanks to all of you who want to improve the game for us "lower class" players" ;D ;D I think the iniative from Maureen and Ben is great, and when we see what people can do in order to get in, it must be an succsess B) The reason for me to repond to this thread is the call for questions from the players or lack of them. ::D From myself I can answer as following: "I feel I am not good enough in brigde to ask a good question" " If I have a question, do I have the ability to ask it in a foregin language, in a such matter that it will be understand?" and so on.. I hope you mentors don't loose the interst because of lack in questions. I think if you give it time, and some people start to ask, more will follow, and when we all are warm and secure, you all will start yelling for help ;D ;D Thanks 8)
  9. I agree with BBO, it is good that we care ;D On the other side, what should be the point to restrict the tourny to one sex? Aren't we online? Aren't we just a couple of eletrical impulses? there are free registration. Who know...maybe I am a woman....or maybe a ...... ::) NO..no let the game itself tell us that life is great! ;D
  10. Country...yes ... but for what.....? :B) Level? well her we have had many discussions. Who puts level on a player.... the player himself... and then there are many opinions about how right this level are put. I think the option with friends come first, in the lobby, is a very good deal. ;D I am also very pleased with the option to write comments on each players name (right clic) this give you the opertunity to give all your oponents personal comments, that pop up next time you play ageinst them or want to consider playing with them:) Cyou on BBO ;D
  11. Since the link is "ginsberg" I assume that it contains new files for "GIB's" lib of hands :B) "GIB" is a very good brigdeprogram....but that was not the question..... but if some files are missing, maybe this can explain it ;D ;D
  12. Yes, not allowing kibitzer will reduce cheating ::) BUT will this option maybe be more negative to the game, then cheating itself? B) We all know there will always be some people that live for cheating (not many, but a few) The question is, shall we allow them to destroy evrydaysgame with restrictions, or shall we just mark them ouerself, and try to play a nice game without the fear:) I myself would have laid down all cards if 1 kibitzer had wispered a clue to me..... that is not fun and it is ceartenly not a brigdegame. But don't let us be paranoid, let us have fun;D Cyou on BBO :D
  13. First I will say that topic and answers in this community is great ;D Latly there have been "some voices" about slow postings and lack of new members who post. This is where my thoughs go today. When I have tried to promote the community on BBO, I have recived several messages that they think this is great, but they lack the English. (even if they reply to me in a better state then I write to you today ;D) Then I remember back to my first community. I sat for several weeks reading the postings and did't dare to reply. Then one day I got a direct question on the board, and after some "heartpumping time" I answeard :D Since then no one have been able to stop me ;D 8) So here is my idea. Why not have a "table" there are open for more common "chat" Where the members can say hello to each other, have a more relax approch, maybe say hello to a member that you haven't seen before and so on ;D This "board" will be of such a state that it contents will be deletet once a second day or so Just a suggestion, and to all you lurking members out there, if I can do it, you can ceartenly do it!!!! :) Cyou on BBO ;D
  14. A button will be nice. It will promote people to visit the community, if they find it interesting they will stay on :) Another way is to promote the community to your BBO friends. I use it for a place to leave messages and to discuss what conv we shall try to learn and so on. Hopfully those I have invited read some of the posts, and maybe will partisipate in the future ;D Yes English can be hard for us non native to the language, but if we don't try, then we don't learn ::) And for you English spoken people out there, your challenge is to understand us, with a open mind and a good portion of forgivness ;D ;D ;D
  15. The way I understand it, is that evry upgrade first is made avalibal for the members of the community for beta testing :) When the official realease is done, the upgrade will be automatic true BBO software. Hope this help, and that I haven't lied to much ;D
  16. Hey John, I post the link here instead of PM, because someone else also may want it ;D http://www.acbl.org/internet/websiteForms..../LTPB2?OpenPage good luck on your game with Maureen ;D
  17. I had those problems you describe Hallway, very anoying ones too.If I stayed long on the game, more than 2 hour, I had to restart my PC in order to play. I asked for a cure here on the community, and it was: Deselect most of the sound options in your profile on BBO, and yes it works. I now only have 1 marker for sound and no more problem with sticky mouse :D But on the other hand your cure could also be the right one . ;D ;D
  18. How hard can it be for people to pick their correct level from the BBO options?! I think that will be very hard, and indeed I think you will gain more fighting windmills, then exsact description of levels on BBO ;D We people are diffrent, and good is that, but some of us have got a bigger ego then other, and they belive their title. Another thing I have noticed are that many "boards owner" just want expert to attend. This will from another group of people be enough to put exspert on their label, because they hate to be left out of anything. As for reading, understanding, and living by the rules, sorry to say, but you will only find a minority of people living up to that, both on BBO and in life as general;D So give those expert you don't recon a smile, and mark your own comment in their profile:) Big smile from an intem.... 8)
  19. yes, Yes, YES, nice put, and I belive evrey word of it! ;D ;D
  20. LOL, I think there might be a language barriere here. From earliere posts from Misho, I know he agree with you on study of different systems, he has even told me that the only way I can improve my game is to know about my oponents, and how to handle them :( I belive what he ment are; we have all most to gain if "you and partner" talk the same language(same system) ,many times with a pick up partner you don't, even if both have the same starting point, iow sayc, 2-1,..and if you transfer this to two oponents who have their own system, and their own way to see things, then it dosen't help that much, what you know about other systems, but it gives you an advantage to make an good guess ::( ;D But I might be wrong :) so I give you both a big smile instead ;D
  21. Yea, I am seaking soul ::), I would love to learn more about the Moscito system, so count me in, please ;D
  22. Although I make my name and email available, I can understand those who don't wish to do so Yes agree, but look at this profile: Name: Private :okay for me, but this tells me back off, don't come close, I trust no one. Name: "Oluf" okay this tells me about a person that will be known as Oluf. This name I can use to communicate with him and can feel some sort of common relationsship. But since we both are just is a couple of eletrical impulses, our names don't have to be the real ones, but it gives more posetive responses than "Private". okay, okay I am the young one, only 59 ;D
  23. Thanks Cave_Draco, a good laughter prolong life,they say, I expect to be 150 ;D
  24. I will just give my vote to Ben and his tournamment for us lower player ;D I have tried one tourny and I think I become a bit scarred after that. Maybe most because of the jumping between tables, what shall happen next and so on ::) So I think a more slow approch would be nice ;D On the other hand, the only way to improve our skill is to play ageinst better players, but maybe normal room is better for that ;D I will use the opertunity to thank Ben (and others)for always to give very good and usefull info on every subject he (they)respont to. It is a nice gesture to us who want to learn ;D Thanks all ;D Edvin
