  1. I don't like the way this all is made. 8 Minutes of Bridge contain Bidding and Cardplay. In both the best plaers in the world, but many average players too, put efforths to increase their chances to do well. Both parts of the game are VERY complicated and they try to make one of this "simple" Now we have the very best players in the world and you disallow some of these methods. I just try to think of other sports where there are events that disallow some key parts of the game for making it more attractive to kibitzers. maybe you should disallow bluffs in poker? because its hard to explain somebody why a player makes a bet without having good cards (=?bidding 2♦ with having a weak hand and 6♥) maybe disallow playing Billard with spin? maybe disallow playing the ball backwards in Football/Basketball/(Ice)Hockey etc... (why playing the ball back while the goal is in front?) same is with my (meant as kind of joke but maybe it is not) exapmle about cardplay... AKQxx - AQ - ATx - xxx vs JTxxx - xx - KJ9 - AKQ you play 6 spades, get a club lead, pull trumps play all clubs, play a small heart and then REFUSE the finesse and play towars the ace and exit with a heart... hard to explain that to somebody who is a bit familiar with trick-taking cardgames. to keep the game simple the organisators the could disallow every cardplay technique, defensive methods. Players could be forced to play either their highes or lowest card. so in every trick you have 2 possible cards, that would be easy to understand so we have some group of kibitzers who won't be able to follow the game no matter how bidding and play will be, thats 95% of the world's population or so one (imo very small group) of players who would understand the so called natural bidding but would have no chance to follow the game if one bids 2♥ after partners 1NT and has ♠ and (I think this group is bigger then group 2) lots of players, who will at least understand, that players who play "artifical" methods try to increase their results, same as the declarer in 6 spades does by making bids/plays that he thinks, will work better
  2. why dont they disallow squeezes, endplays and things like that? its hard to explain within 10 sec. how a squeeze work and most average players will not be able to follow that concept

    Vugraph

In ungeraden Kalenderwochen Individual.
  5. Wow. And I thought I was crazy. I'd never think of bidding my doubleton here... AKx istn't that much of doubleton for me
  6. or be a mouse and bid the normal bid... 1♠
  7. 100% agree to this, finesse + appeal is a terrible double shot, and if i could invent rules and be TD then i would let the score stand and give declarer some penalty for not respecting the game or so
  8. why did i double 7s? ok - this is a problem hand so i have to finde the winning lead - i try dia! dummy will be ♣ void, runnning dias and 2 spades, decl has ♥A, other spades and ony one dia - i kill the entry to the dummy, jackpot?
  9. so Schwartz, Mahaffey and Rosenberg have been eliminated, tmie for new bets for most of us :)
  10. since I learned this game only 6 years ago I can proudly say that there was no moment in that time, where I would not have doubled all the hands. #3 is a classic double and #1 has less shape but more values so the strenght of the hand is ok. #2 you can double since one always will prefer to show majors first, then bid NT, even w/o stopper on a flat hand. So bidding 2C after 1D will nearly always be on 5 cards. If you reverse your clubs and a major that hand becomes a pass of you bid your long major if its very good. If you pass with all hands, then: #1 opps bid 1NT, partner will not bid bis intermediate 5 card suit and opp passes. You have no bid again so they make 1nt while you are cold for 110 #2 you will sellout to 1nt or 2m again #3 you miss 4 spades after 1h - p - 3/4h - p - p - ?
  11. 16-17 with Rosenbergs and Auken-Van Arnim against Dutch will be highlight in that wound of 32 IMO
  12. Aberlour10 Posted on Mar 15 2009, 10:56 AM [...]I would bet a coke on team Gromov as I always do, but they gave up their strong 4-handed line up, so I dont think, they have a real chance this time. Robert they have Gromovs wife and her partner in their team for years now. the ladies play far less boards then the others, but they were members of the team that won silver in transnationals 2007 in shanghai etc. also in the NABC events they officially were teammembers - so team 10 will be as strong as always my favs outside the top 8 seeded are team (additional to 10) 11 with Fredin-Fallenius and Gawrys-Lesniewski and the Teams with the Dutch players in (17 and 28) - How can Brink-Drijver be seeded 28?
  13. you dont need to have all suits covered that well for a double on 1♣ so opp can easily have 3 dias only. but this is not the problem, we should not think of our opp we should think of our pd. he did not open 1♦ he did not bid 1nt after 1♠ he did double for TO twice so his hand is something similar to 1-4-3-5 distr and strong, my bid is probably 3♣ if i agreed to have 2nt as not to play in this position, then I bid 2nt for the same reason my partner doubled 2♠ - and this is take-out why does he double? because opps have 9 card fit in spades (or seldom 8) and we are likely to have a fit elsewhere, so lets play our fit, then we make more tricks than with spades as trumps
  14. TO, I dont play penalty Doubles on this level with partner bidding nothing, 4 spades AQJ or AQT or so in hearts and 4 clubs and maximum
  15. I just made a small sample: case 1: Opener must have 5+♦ and 4♥ and 11-13 hcp (as i said we invite light) tricks % =<7 6 8 15 9 36 >=10 43 so if we say we invite and pd will accept 50% of the times, he will most likely do this on say about 35 hands where we make and 15 we will go down on other 50 he will reject where we make 10+ tricks 8 times but we are overboard 21 times this means our score will improve 35 times and we lose 36 times. So its worth to invite if we: trust in partners openings trust in partners judgement trust in our declarer play trust in opponents erros in defense now i changed the settings to 4+ dias and 11-14 hcp tricks % 7- 15 8 31 9 26 10+ 28 finaly i changed settings to 3+ hearts and 11-14 7- 17 8 29 9 25 10+ 27 you see you make game less then you have only 8 or less tricks now again 5♦4♥ but we open with 12 and invite with 15, so 12-14 is the range 7- 1 8 5 9 29 10+ 65 you see your acction mostly depends on your system and your partners stlye. if you can count that with losers or covercards or so, thats nice, i cant, i try to imagine possible hands for pd and try to find out how often game makes. playing 1st style you can afford to invite. 2nd and 3rd style should pass and 4th style can shot to game here was only 100 boards each but it was the results i expected
  16. this realy depends on your general bidding style. playing my fav. system (polish club) this sequence shows 5 dias and 4 hearts, that makes our hand worth much more then some 4432 from partner for example playing standard or some normal hands with 4 dias. So if you open 1♦ only on good suits/5 cards your hand gets better. On the other hand with most of my regular pd's we invite "light" having 5 dias and 4 hearts - since pd only raised its unlikely that he has a real good hand - so I would invite If then partner frequently raises to 2h with 3 cards even on balanced hands you should think about beeing more conservative - then I would pass this If partner opens light frequently I would also pass So I am torn between bidding game, inviting or pass depending on who I play with and his bidding style.
  17. normaly i think i bid 3S, but that really depends on oppontents and how the play till there went. can imagine, if i see rho counting his/her points to a loud "19" that i pass and see the bidding 1♦-1♥-2NT-3NT. on some good day I bid 4S. 3S has the plus, that partner will raise with fit, so we dont have tricks against their contracts. Dont want to hit partner on a spade single and some spread jacks and queens
  18. I tend to believe my partners more then my opps, so I bid a 100% nonforcing pass.
  19. since my partners usualy pass with nothing on 1D and I have told most of them not to raise my 4H bids in that situation I would bid 4H. 4D would be more constructive, same to 3S, on some days 3d would come into my mind. on 1st of april I would bid 2h and then think of some joke to tell my teammates that we scored 170 or 200
  20. You lead the ♣K and continue with the ♣Q, partner playing lo-Hi (UDCA). What do you return? i expect partner to have 4 cards, so in 2nd trick he had 2 choices of singlaling or 3rd one overtake, so the exact spotcards would give an usefull hint
  21. seems you can either play for: J432 - 9 by playing a spade to the 8 or for any other layout by playing to the ace J9xx J9x J9 all those combinations a good player will play the 9
  22. i would strongly like a way to have links to the old myhands page because i liked to save the files and watch them on my pc, most important was the GIB icon, because i wanted to check, if there is a double dummy way available to play better!
  23. Thanks Frances :)... I Xed then bid 4♥ over 4♦, my RHO bid 4♠, I chose 5♣, all pass. Now for a little play problem... Where are the A and Q♦? [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sj4hk2dt9762ckt95&s=s2haqjt8dkjcaqj84]133|200|Scoring: IMP T♠ Lead, RHO wins with the Ace, and returns the 3♠ which you ruff and LHO plays the 5♠. Your opponents play UDCA and Std. Leads. How do you play the ♦ suit?[/hv] i check the clubs and probably the hearts too, if rho also has a club singleton then i will for sure play him not to have the ace of spades, ace of dias and a shortnes and not to bid game directly
  24. and i thought I was the only one, who agreed this (with my former junoir partner) Bad luck that there was no such hand at the last european championships :)
