  1. You hold: AQ=Qxx=xx=JTxxxx Partner opens 2NT (20-21). You play some kind of puppet stayman. If you bid 3♣ then partner bids 3♥, meaning no 4 or 5 card Major. You can now bid 4♣ which is slem interest in ♣ or slem interest with 4/4 minors. Over 4 ♣ partner can bid : - 4♦ with ♦'s (you can sign of in 4NT) - or cue 4♥/4♠ with a 4-card ♣. - He can sign of with 4NT. What is your plan?
  2. I would cross to my hand with ♥A, play ♠J (you never know that LHO wants to cover) and play ♠A in dummy. I end with: - KQx - - versus T x Q - I don't need the ♠ finesse because opps will be squeezed if LHO has ♠Q (I believe RHO has ♦K). This gives me the extra chance of RHO having ♠Q doubleton.
  3. [hv=d=e&v=e&e=sxhq9xdkjtxcakxxx&s=saqxxhxxdqxxcjtxx]266|200|Scoring: IMP (1D)-(1H) (2C)-(2NT) (3NT)[/hv] 2NT of declarer showed 10 HCP. Partner starts with ♠2 (4th best). You play A and return a small ♠ for J of declarer and K of partner. Partner now returns another ♠ for you Q and declarers 9. It is clear that declarer still has ♠T. What do you play now?
  4. You are in 6♠ after showing good Spades (Bidding started with 3♦-3♥-3♠, which shows a GF in ♠). You have in ♠: AKQ9xx versus xx in dummy. You play ♠A and LHO plays the ♠J. You have no problems to go to dummy, nut should not loose a ♠ trick. Is it best to play for drop or to finesse?: - If LHO would never falsecard with JTx - If LHO is good enough to falsecard with JTx
  5. I would play East for ♣QJTx Play ♦A discarding a ♣ in dummy. ♠QJ and ♣AK followed by all ♠'s ending with: ♠3 ♥K96 ♥A5 ♦6 ♣3 East will have to shorten to 2♥'s and a ♣ on the last ♠; after which you throw ♣3. West has to keep a ♦ and also has to shorten to 2♥'s.
  6. I play that opener: - asks with 2NT. - bid 4m is a void. - bid 3x is 5-5, looking for low point game or slem interest
  7. [hv=e=sa9hat74dq6cq9876&s=sq8h32daj72cakt53]266|200|1C-(1S)-P-(1NT) P-(2H)-P-(3H) Pass[/hv] Partner leads the ♣J for the Q of East and your ♣K and the 4 from declarer. I returned the ♣T (suit preference for ♦ if he can ruff). Partner told that this was very bad and left after the hand. How bad was this?
  8. How will the bidding continue? (I don't think the South hand is good enough for a slam try)

    5H= / 5S-1

Yes, sorry...South had ♦Qxx ..Now 5♥ makes. So best is: a forcing pass by South after 5♣ and North bids 5♥?
  10. [hv=d=n&n=sjxxxhqxxxdakxxcx&s=skqxxhkjtxxdxxxca]133|200|Scoring: MP Pass- (1♣)-1♥-(2♣)-3♣ (Pass)-3♠-(Pass)-4♠ (5♣)-5♠-All Pass [/hv] 5♠-1 because of a Heart ruff, 5♥ would make. Partner first passed, so 3♣ showed a good hand with a fit. 2NT (fit) would have been the better bid with the North hand. We play DBL as take out. Do you think that 3♣ should always have a 4 card ♥? - What do you think of the bidding
  11. thanks, changed now (I cant change the title)
  12. I wondered about all this after responses in other post: (1C)-1S-(2C)-DBL (Pass)-?? 2♦ / 2♥ : Can be a reasonable 3-card, Does not promise extra's. 2♠ : minimum, Can be 5-card if ♥/♦'s are to bad to bid (or with 'long' ♣'s) 3♣: at least opening hand and no other good bid. 3♦ / 3♥ : 4-card and extra's (at least an opening hand). (1C)-1S-(2C)-DBL (Pass)-2H-(Pass)-??? What do you bid with: xx=AKJx=KQxxx=xx (1C)-1S-(2C)-??? You play 2-level bids not forcing (...do you?). Is there a difference in strength between DBL and 2D/2H. Does DBL promise some strength?
  13. I meant it like that, but I'm used to play that 2NT is GF. That is probably not true is SAYC. So what is the best bid to set ♣ and be able to RKC in ♣'s afterwards?
  14. 1C-1H 2NT-3C 3H-4C is this forcing in SAYC? (..If 3C was forcing?)
  15. I'm surprised by 2 posts that say south should bid 2♥ if North DBLs. I thought this would show a 4 card ♥.
  16. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sxhkxxxxdakxxxxcq&s=sakxxxhqtxdqxcxxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP (1♣)-1♠-(2♣)-2♦ All pass[/hv] 4♥ makes (♥'s and ♦'s are 3-2) What is worst bid? - Maybe South (I) should not pass 2♦ because 2♦ shows constructive hand and South is not minimum. - 2♥ by North is clearly better then 2♦? After 2♦ he will never be able to show his ♥'s. - How do you bid to 4♥?
  17. tx for the answers. I did bid 4♥ because I didn't see a way to find out about the perfect hand. I could bid 3♠ cue and RKC after a ♣ cue, but 5♥ could be too high wthout ♥KQ. (we play mixed cues: A ♣ cue from partner shows the ♣K or can he also cue ♣ with a singleton?)
  18. 2♣ for me (I don't like it with the Q's in the minors, but I have always difficulties to find the green card)
  19. 1♠ is forcing, 2♠ shows 4 card ♥ and a singleton ♠ and 12-14 or 18-19 HCP
  20. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=saxxxhaxdqcaqjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1C-1D! 1S-2H! 1C: You play 5cM and 4cD, 1C can sometimes be a douleton...not now. 1D: transfer Walsh, Promises Hearts 1S: 4 card S, forcing. No 3 card H (can hold 3 card H if strong) 2H: 6 card H with 8 to 10 HCP. Partner could have bid 2D on first round to show a 6 card Major with 4 to 7 HCP. You have slem if partner holds ♥KQ and ♣K. You have no hard agreements about this, but from the general agreements you have with your partner you expect that he will understand following bids: - 3♦: 4th suit GF - 3NT: to play - 3♠: ♥-fit, cue (not sure he will take it like that, but you can bid 3♦ if strong with 5-6 in black suits and no ♥-fit) - 4♣: ♥-fit, cue - 4♦: ♥-fit, splinter - 4♥: to play ==> Do you try to find slem?
  21. (We play 'all' DBL"s for take out) ...If you DBL then partner bids 2S...What now?
  22. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sxhkxxxxdakxxxxcq]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (1C)-1S-(2C)-??? opps play Acol. 2C is a weak raise (6-9). You have agreed that 1-level bids after partner has overcalled are forcing, 2-level bids are not forcing but constructive. Jumps and 2NT are fit-bids. What do you bid?
  23. partner had: xxx QTxxx x xxxx I DBL'ed first and passed when 4♥ came back to me. LHO had ♠xxx. 4♥-2 while 6♣ for us makes. At the table I considered 5♣ but was afraid that both 5♣ and 4♥ would go down. Now I think a 2nd DBL is best.
  24. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=saqt8hdqjxcakjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] East open 1♥ and you decide to DBL. (agree?). Bidding continues: (1♥)-DBL-(3♥)-Pass (4♥)-?? 3♥ alerted as 8-10 distribution points. What do you call now and how do you rank Pass, DBL, 5♣, 4♠? Thanks, koen
  25. [hv=n=skqj865hkq85d96c9&s=sa7hada3cak876542]133|200|4NT-5C 5NT-6H 7C-7NT[/hv] This is a hand of Yesterday night. Advanced Opp did go for -1. Can you do better. (I think an intermediate player should find the correct play here). LHO lead ♦K.
