[hv=d=s&v=e&s=sak865haq843dkt9c]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1S and partner raises to 4S. (4S is a normal 4S bid on S length) RHO makes (an aggressive) 5C call. 1S-(P)-4S-(5C) What do you bid now?

This was the full hand. I took the wrong line (Discarding ♦ on ♣'s and ruffing a ♥). If I could only do these calculations at the table :D [hv=n=saqhad965cak98532&w=st865h75dk832cqjt&e=s9hjt863dajt74c64&s=skj7432hkq942dqc7]399|300|[/hv]

Any one with a few minutes to spare

Steve, I thought a constructive raise is weaker then limit, but better then preempt. like if you play: 1S-3S: 4 card S with nothing: preempt 1S-3C: 4 card S with 7-9 HCP: constructive -
Thanks ...1) You can play 2 spades from dummy and ♣A and ♣ ruff: makes if ♣'s are 3-2. (and also if player with 4 card ♣ has a 4 card ♠). ...2) or the line given by you: makes if (♣'s are 3-2 and not both of hearts 5-2 and spades 4-1) OR (East has a singleton club and hearts are 4-3 and spades are 3-2.) How to calculate the probabilities of these 2 lines? Or even better: How to "feel" (or very rough calculation) which of both lines is best, so you can make the correct play at the table?

Not sure I agree with "With both suits control, you bid RCKB.". Opener is limited (18-19HCP) and responder's range is larger. Maybe responder wants to go to 7S. I'm not sure if it is a good idea that opener takes control here. Isn't it better that 4H simply says: "I have a Club control"?

We play 1st and 2nd round control cues. Below 2 questions. Bidding before the cues is only for setup of the question. Please only consider the cue-bidding question. 1. Suppose the bidding goes: 1S-2NT 3D-3H 3NT-4D 4H 2NT: 4c-fit; limit+ 3D: 18-19 HCP 3H: Asking relay 3NT: balanced; no singleton; inviting to cue 4D: 1st or 2nd control D; no C control => 4H: should always have a C control, but should it also have a H control? It looks like the C control is what partner is looking for? Or should opener bid above 4S with a C control and no H control? 2. Suppose the bidding goes: 1S-2NT 3S-3NT 4C-4H 2NT: 4c-fit; limit+ 3S: minimum, balanced 3NT: balanced; no singleton; inviting to cue 4C: 1st or 2nd control C; 4H: 1st or 2nd control H; no D control Now opener is limited and responder is unlimited, but has no D-control. Should opener always go on above 4S with a D-control; even with an absolute minimum? Thanks, Koen

...or with xxx-QTxx-xx-KJxx ?

IMP's; S/- You deal and hold: Kxx=Axx=432=AQxx Bidding goes: 1C-(1D)-DBL-(Pass)-?? You play with a pick-up partner on BBO, but suppose that DBL shows 4-4 in the majors. What is your best bid now? Seems like you can't bid anything else then 1NT? Holding Kxx=Axx=32=AQxxx you would bid 2C probably? Thanks, Koen PS: I was holding this hand, partner was thinking and I hoped he wasn't going to DBL. luckily he choose an other bid.

Opps bid your partner's suit

I guess he had something like: Qxx=QTxx=Kxxx=Qx -
Opps bid your partner's suit
kgr replied to kgr's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
partner had 9HCP and 3=4=4=2 or 4=4=3=2. I did pass and 2H was -1. 3C makes or +1. Passing out 2H gave a score of about 20%. ...Still not sure if partner had to bid more or if I had to DBL in balancing position.. -
I think Odd/even discarding is really easy: - An odd card asks for the suit. - A low even card asks for lowest suit, A high even card asks for highest suit. Can it be any easier? I wonder why that is not teached to beginners?
-
DBL for me. ...this is MP's. I hope (and expect) partner will not jump. If partner bids 3♣ I correct to 3♦ hoping that he still does not take me too serious.

- When this problem was given to me, my first guess was ♥A followed by ♦'s and exit with ♥'s. But RHO has ♥Q9x. Then I saw the correct line (Not bad after a few beers :P ). - In reality RHO played ♥J to the first trick. The best chanche is still ♥A followed by the T? - I wonder how many experts find the right play at the table for the two hands I posted and how long they have to think about this (..Do you see the correct line right away?)

MP's, all green Weak opps. You are dealer and hold: KJx-x-xxx-AKJxxx 1C-(p)-1D*-(1H**) 2C-(2H)-P-(P) ?? *: you play transfer Walsh. 1D is transfer to H **: 1H was bid immediatly. You did nit have the chanche to alert 1D before it was bid. You alert and tell RHO that he can change his bid if he wants, but he does not want to change it. Your general agreement is that all DBL's are negative, but here it seems that H distribution is known for everybody. So DBL would mean: I don't want to defend 2H undoubled. (Probably same if partner would have DBLed). - What is the max partner can have for his pass? - Do you DBL, bid 3C or pass?

[hv=d=n&n=sakxhkxxdaktxxxcx&s=sqjtxxhxxdjxxcaxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP 1D-1S 2NT-3C 3S-4S[/hv] LHO start ♣2 (3th/5th) for RHO's Q. How do you plan the play? This is part 2 of the 2 hands given to me after tournement (..and a couple of beers). (Probably experts will easily find this...Try it without looking at other answers. PS: one of the 2 hands probably comes from a book.. I don't know which one.. It's IMP's scoring!!

[hv=d=s&n=sxxxhkxxxdqxxcxxx&s=saqxxhatdakxxxckx]133|200|Scoring: IMP 2NT-3C 3D-3S 3NT[/hv] I'll give you 2 hands given to me after tournement (..and a couple of beers). This is hand 1. You reach 3NT and LHO leads ♥2 (4th best) for RHO's Q. How do you plan the play? (Probably experts will easily find this...Try it without looking at other answers. PS: one of the 2 hands probably comes from a book.. fI don't know which one..

[hv=n=skqjxhqjxxdkqxxcx&w=saxhkxxdxxckjxxxx&e=s8xxxhxxxxxdaxxxc&s=st96hadjxxcaqt9xx]399|300|[/hv] This is an 'estimate' of all 4 hands. Seems like ♥A will cost a trick (not sure of that)? Declarer can then play ♦ and play a ♥ from dummy and you have to ruff nothing? 2♣! was -1 and that din't make me happy (I was North). Ther end result on the hand wasn't that bad as most NS were in 3NT-1. And when I saw partner's hand I had to confess that therer was no other option then passing. ... should I have opened with my singleton ♣ or looks a save ♠K better here? Thanks! Koen

MP's; W/- You hold: ♠T96 ♥A ♦Jxx ♣AQT9xx And the bidding goes: (1C)-DBL-(P)-P Play: Your partner leads ♠K and dummy tables: ♠8xxx ♥xxxxx ♦Axx ♣ ♠T96 ♥A ♦Jxx ♣AQT9xx Declarer takes the ♠A and returns a small ♣ for partner's 5 and your 6 (♥ discard in dummy) Questions: - You expect that partner leads a ♣ after this auction? - What do you play now? Is ♣ return best?
-
MP's; W/- You hold: ♠T96 ♥A ♦Jxx ♣AQT9xx And the bidding goes: (1C)-DBL-(P)-?? What do you bid? (1C opening can be a 2-card, opps open 5=5=4=2) If you pass: - Is there any club holding that could change your bid? ????xx
-
Last Friday we had the bidding at MP's (2S was Muiderberg): (2S)-P-(3S)-DBL (P)-? With 8HCP and 1=3=5=4 distribution the player (playing in highest division in Belgium) decided to bid 4H. That is why I don't like a DBL very much here. You could end up in a 3-3 fit?

Probably some of the fonts - cardcourier... - on my computer are not ok, but no idea which font and how to correct it. (...still hoping somebody has a solution for this)
-
Seems like everybody agrees with 2♥. I would not have bid 2♥ with your partner's hand. I pass 1♥. If opps go to ♠'s then I still pass, but I would bid 2♥ if opps go to 2♦.
-
Thanks for the answers. I did bid 2♦ and partner did bid 2♥ (denying 4 card ♥). 2 ♥ was passed out. Opps did lead a ♣ and 2♥ made +2. We would make 5 on a ♦ lead. I don't know partner's exact hand. ...I know partner had only 15HCP, so I guess he had something like : AQTx-Kxx-AQx-xxx with ♠K well positioned and ♥'s 2-2.

- Resizing of windows is not kept in next session - I think it is better to have default sizing changed: show some part of people window. That makes it easier for new users to find it. - bbotv does not work for me in internet explorer v7. It works in Netscape.
