Thanks all for the answers!! By now it's clear for me that I needed at least 5 hearts to pass :P ...but is 5 enough? [hv=d=n&v=b&n=sjxxxhdakqxxcaxxx&s=skqxhaqtxdxckjtxx]133|200|Scoring: MP 1D-(1H)-P-(P) DBL-All pass[/hv] I don't remember the exact hands, but they were something like this. Questions: - If you can replace clubs by hearts.. How much more hearts do you need to pass iso bid? - Is it ok to DBL with the North hand or do you need at least a singleton? Thanks! Koen PS: Opps played 1HX-2, most other pairs played 3NT and one pair made 6C. A 0 (that's a big fat zero) for us :(

It is our style that an overcall is max. 15/16 HCP. With more we start with a DBL.

[hv=d=n&v=b&s=skqxhaqtxdxckjtxx]133|100|Scoring: MP 1D-(1H)-??[/hv] Partner opens 1♦ (5 cards M, 4 card ♦, can be 4-4 minors) and RHO overcalls 1♥. Do you have enough defence to pass (partner will DBL most of the time) or do you need at least 5 card ♥?

I added a poll to this post. I never thought that 3S was forcing. For me it shows a very good hand, but it is not forcing. These were both hands: [hv=d=w&n=sjxhxxdqjxxxxxcxx&s=sqt8xxxhaxdcakqjx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] (1H)-DBL-(2H)-3D (P)-3S-All Pass North has ♠J and ♠'s are 3-2, which is all you need to make 4♠. (I had the North hand and couldn't resist to bid 3♦ and thought I said it all then, so I passed 3♠)

[hv=d=e&s=sqt8xxxhaxdcakqjx]133|100|Scoring: MP 1H-(DBL)-2H-(3D) -(P)??[/hv] You started with a DBL because you system does not allow you to show 2-suiter S-C in this position. Opps are intermediate and you believe that 2H at least showed 5 ditribution points. What do you bid now? MP: 3S or 4S?
-
I read a system description about 2-suited overcalls, but no examples or point ranges are included: 1C-(P)-1D- DBL: 4(3)-4(3) 1NT: 4-4 good hand 2C: 5cH-4cS 2D: 4cH-5cS == 1C-(P)-1S- DBL: 4cD-4cH 1NT: 5cD-4cH good hand 2C: 4cD-5cH == What point range would you give these bids or what are the minimal hands you bid it with? Especially the distinction between DBL and 1NT in first case.

[hv=n=sjxxxh87xxdxckxxx&s=sahaj9xxdajxxcaxx]133|200|[/hv] Thanks for the answers. These are both hands. I passed 3♥. Hearts were 2-2 and LHO did lead ♦K. I took ♦A, ruffed a ♦, came back to my hand with ♠A and ruffed another ♦. Now I played ♥ to my A (LHO dropping the Q) and ruffed another ♦ overruffed by RHO with ♥T. RHO played a ♠ ruffed by me. I played ♥ for LHO's K, who continued with another ♦ ruffed by me. I played all my ♥'s, keeping ♠J and ♣Kx on the table. Opps misdefended by keeping both a ♠ honour. Making 3♥+2 for an absolute 0.

[hv=d=s&v=e&s=sahaj9xxdajxxcaxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] Bidding: 1♥-3♥ 3♥ = 4 card ♥ and 2 to 5 HCP - MP's: Do you Pass or bid 4H? - IMP's: Do you Pass or bid 4H? Thanks, Koen

I was North, partner South is World Class (but no star). I agree that 3S is at the limit and maybe it is better to bid 4S, but at the other hand I already limited my hand with 2♦ bid? Full story: Partner went down as ♦K was off-site. After the hand he said that 5♥ did promise the ♥A and he removed me from the table. ...I thought that 4♠ bid did deny the ♥A and that 5♥ did give a second control in ♥ and did deny ♦K making 5♠ a better bid then 6♠. .... but I'm not worldclass, so probably I'm wrong on this?

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=sj52hkj73dj72c984&s=sakq94hxdaqt43cak]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Opps pass always: 2♣-2♦ 2♠-3♠ 4♦-4♠ 5♣-5♥ 6♠ Pickup partnership on BBO. No agreements. Assumption is SAYC. What do you think of the bidding? Any bids that show something else than what is held in your opinion? Thanks, Koen

From other topic: 1D-1S 2D-2H Some play this as a GF or invitational relay. If invitational: - What does opener rebid with 4card H and values to accept the invite? If GF: - What should responder bid with an invitational hand and eg 5=4=3=1, 5=4=2=2? PS: I started to play a new system where 1D-1S promises 4+c♥ or longer ♥ then ♠. I have a problem with: 1D-1H 2D-2H - 1♥: is 4+♠, can be 4=4 in M or longer S then H - 2♥: GF relay (new suit after opener rebids his minor) And over 1♦ we play: - 1D-2H: 4c♠ and 5c♥, 6-9HCP - 1D-2S: 5c♠ and 4c♦, 6-9HCP ==> Seems like these agreements make invitational hands and eg 5=4=1=3, 5=4=3=1, 5=4=2=2 unbiddable. Thanks, Koen

1C-(1S)-2H-(2S) 3NT-(P)-4C-(P) 4D-(p)-4H-(P) ?? I wonder if this would be ever passable from partner's viewpoint. He does not see the v=KJxxxx=xx=KJxxx. It seems like 4C is a slem try and 4H a cue, Isn't it? Can it be that we are influenced by our own hand, and hope that partner will act according to it? (Maybe it would have been better if I simply had posted the above auction) Thanks, Koen PS: Appreciate you views! Just wondering if you can really pass at the other side of the table.

Sorry.. Should be: void-KJxxxx-xx-KJxxx

MP's Your partner deals and opens 1♣ which can be a 2-card (with 4=4=3=2) and RHO bids 1S. You hold: void-KJxxxxx-xx-KJxxx and decide to overcall 2♥ forcing ans showing 5+card H. The bidding continues: 1C-(1S)-2H-(2S) 3NT-(P)-?? Remark: 3NT can be as weak as 15 HCP with e.g. a singleton/void in Hearts. I don't remember the other hands, but my questions are: (taking into account that it is MP's!): - If you bid 4C now (forcing and slem interest) can you still reach 4H then? If partner cues (1st or 2nd control) 4D, Is 4H by you a cue or showing extra length in hearts? - Would you call pass, 4C or 4H over 3NT? (- I guess you can't show extra H and C with one bid?) Thanks, Koen

Thanks for the opinions given. Bidding at our table was: 1H-(DBL)-P-(1S) 4H-(DBL)-All Pass Partner hand was somethng like: AT9xx-xx-xx-xxxx vs Q-KQJTxxx-Axxx-x LHO started with a small spade. Opps are not very strong, so I tried to play S Ace and run s amll D, but LHO returned H ace and a small H. 4Hx-3 for a zero. 4S was going down at the other tables.

Thanks all for the answers. Let me add 2 comments in defence of my partner: - We don't play together for that long. I'm the more aggresive bidder. Partner did certainly expect more from my 2S bid. - We didn't have an agreement on how to invite (and 4NT would have been for the minors). So it seemed like a guess between 4 and 6S for him ...We kind of agreed some weeks ago that if opps compete like here then 5S would have asked for a H control to go to 6S. Not important her, but seems a better bid then 6S. (hmm, this last comment is not part of the 2 comments in defence of my partner :P ).

Thanks for the answers Ben. I'll give it try when I have some spare time.

I'm learning a new system with a 'new' partner. It includes transfer Walsh, transfer preempts, multi, fit bids.... (I don't think we will gain anything from using most of it, it's more for fun). Partner wants to play once a week on BBO. Questions related to this and Full Disclosure (I'm wondering if using FD is worth the effort): - If FD file already exists for some of the conventions, can these be plugged in easily in the overall system? If Yes: where should I look for existing FD files. - Who can see the alerts when using FD in BBO (As a start it would be good if I can see alerts of my own bids...even in the beginning if partner could see them)? - Is it a lot of work to make an FD file?

OK, I should have opend 4C then. I just didn't want to stretch the namyats too much. I opened 1H (suppose you did not have 4C Namyats available) : 1H-(DBL)-P-(1S)-? What do you bid now?
-
Except that I can only count 7 tricks.
-
You play MP's and are dealer. Nobody Vuln. You hold: Q-KQJTxxx-Axxx-x You have following possibilities: 1H : 5cards Majors 3D : Transfer preempt to H 4C : Namyats promising 8 tricks by agreement. 4H : preempt

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=saqxxxhqxxdaxxxcx&w=sxhkxxxdqjxcaxxxx&e=sxhajxxxxdkxxcq9x&s=skjtxxxhdxxxckjt8]399|300|Scoring: MP (2H)-2S-(4H)-6S-All Pass[/hv] I did bid 2S and partner raised to 6S when LHO did bid 4H. (I had a little hope when, after ruffing H lead and playing trumps; I played a small club, RHO the 9, the T from me and LHO the Ace.) Probably I better bid from partner is 5H as a limit for 6S (assuming 5S would ask a H control)? But this was not discussed!? I you pass then LHO raises to 4H and partner will pass. Would you bid 4S when it comes back to you?

What's double and pass after 2/1 was interfered
kgr replied to cnszsun's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
In SAYC pass should also be forcing? But it feels like most of us play DBL as take-out? Why is this? PS: this is a serious question. No hard feeling against your penalty DBL :) -
RHO opens 2H weak. You have at MP's nobody vulnerable: KJTxxx-v-xxx-KJT8 what do you bid and what is your plan?
-
Yes, right. ...makes my think that this hand was already posted here before.
