Basically these DBL's say that you have extra quick tricks outside opps suit(s). Instead of bidding higher, it invites partner to bid higher, but gives him the chance to pass if he has too much value in their suit. It is only valid if the situation is not a forcing pass. DSIP DBL's are valid by both partners I have some questions about this:: I now play what we call Absolute DBL's on Game level. They also invite partner to bid higher, but we always play them (independently of a forcing pass or not) and only the first hand can make a Absolute DBL. In balancing seat it is a Penalty DBL. Questions: - Would it make sense to use DSIP DBL's also in case of a forcing pass? (Maybe you should switch to penalty in the balancing seat then?) - Do you think it is best to have on Game Level the DSIP DBL's by both hands or to have DSIP DBL only by direct hand and penalty in balancing? - (certainly on lower levels,) DSIP DBL's should only be done when you have more done expected quick tricks (K, A) outside their suit. More then expected HCP is not enough. Is that also the same for Action DBL's?

http://www.pitbulls.shawbiz.ca/ See DSIP Course D.S.I.P.:"Do something intelligent partner"-double => Basically these DBL's say that you have extra quick tricks outside opps suit(s). Instead of bidding higher, it invites partner to bid higher, but gives him the chance to pass if he has too much value in their suit. - I'm not sure if this is really new and much different then take-out DBL's. - It is more a set of articles and not really one document. This make it a bit difficult to study it. (eg: one time they say that you can only give one DSIP DBL, and later they give an example with a bidding with 2 DSIP DBLs in it) Q: Has anyone read this and thinks it is useful?

This is what I found in an old document (1990) of Claudio Petroncini and Giorgio Belladonna:

I play 2NT is 4+ card limit+ raise. And on that it would probably start: 1♠-2NT 4♠=just enough to accept a limit raise, no shortage. After which we would probably end up in 6♠ => Do you agree with 4♠ if 2NT is 4+ card limit+ raise.?

1st and 2nd seems to be standard. I never realised this (I should check this with my partner). ...Maybe you don't need 1st only because RKC can cover these. If anyone has seen an explanation for this preference then I would be interested.

I included these hands in the non-forcing 1NT. It has its advantages and disadvantages

I think running is clear. You bid 1H with a doubleton and then DBL'ed 4S with a void. You never know that this works out, but if opps REDBL then I run to a minor (I have a double fit for partner)
-
I guess that you only bid 6♠ if you started with 1 and not if you started with 4?

This question comes from another post: If you play Italian controls (1st and 2nd controls) and you rebid a control is that generally showing?: - 1st control; or (Ax. or void) - 1st and 2nd control (A, AK or void)

Ok, I see...Thanks for the explanations, but I still don't like it. 2♦-p-2♥-x Pass- => This is vulnerable to a psych of opener with 6c♠ With the initial hand I gave: If I have one more ♥ and partner a singleton it goes: 2♦-p-2♥-x Pass-3♠/4♠ -
Thanks for the answer Mike. I don't know if it is such a small target to include stop ask in the 3♣ bid. The problem is that you should be sure at the table that 3♣ is fit showing because otherwise the next bids would change their meaning? Like 3♥ being extra length iso simply minimal?

West Dealer: (2♦ Multi)-Pass-(2♥ P/C)-DBL Pass-?? I thought that North would pass here with Short ♥ because he thinks his partner DBL'ed with 5+♥? What is the advantage of DBL being Take-out or penalty otherwise? -
3♥ shows 1st/2nd control? => Why is 4♥ showing a ♥ void and not 1st control and can also be ♥A?

Isn't it possible that we are both short in ♥ and that partner passes...certainly against beginners or bad players? Then You play 2♥X when opps have a 6-4 fit? -

You lead the Ace from ♠AK5432. It would be terrible if you had to look at your hand to see what partner's ♠6 means, right? You know what I intended to say (?), but I don't know if it really exists. Something like: a small card is either distribution of attitude, you will see in your hand what it is. -

I believe everything you say, but I don't think that I will ever play it. I don't like bids or signals for which partner has to look at his hand to see what it meant. (with the example hand you still pass then with penalty OR takeout doubles) -
No hands (the real hands would not correspond to the bidding). Only a bidding: [hv=d=s&v=0&b=8&a=p1c1sp2hp3c3dpp4dp4hp5hp6hppp]133|100[/hv] 1♠ and 2♥ are natural (2♥ not forcing because first passed). If you play with an expert what is 3♣, pass of South over 3♦ and 4♦? My thoughts, more question marks means more uncertainty. 3♣=?= A good hand, either limit+ with ♥ support or asking a ♣ stop for 3NT? Pass=??=What if North was looking for a ♣ stop, What do you bid with a ♣ stop, but missing a ♦ stop? Is Pass denying a ♣ stop and DBL asking a ♦ stop?? 4♦=???=4♦ now means that 3♣ was 1st or 2nd control for ♥ and 4♦ denies 1st ♣ control (??) and gives a ♦ control

For my occasional partner DBL would have been ♥, but I disagreed and convinced him that DBL is take-out. I made the error of thinking long before passing. We could make 3NT. LHO had a 6c♥. Partner had something like: [hv=pc=n&n=sqj32ht2dAQ32c432]133|100[/hv] -
[hv=pc=n&s=s2hakj2dk32ckq432&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=2d(Multi)p2h(Pass%20or%20correct)]133|200[/hv] 2H is a conventional bid, but can be passed. So DBL should be take-out then? Your bid?

Could be that controls are most of the time more useful (although points can be important to locate possibility of Q's). Do you have that in you pdship?

2NT as invite or better raise to one of a major

1♥-2NT ;;;;2NT=10-14 balanced or any 15+ => 3♣:any 15-17 3♦:any 18-19 3♥:minimum (only non forcing) 3♠:12-14 any void 3NT: 12-14 single ♠ 4♣: 12-14 single ♣ 4♦: 12-14 single ♦ 4♥: to play -
IMP's [hv=pc=n&s=skq5432hd432ck432&n=sajt987hkj32d5ca5]133|200[/hv] North dealer. How do you bid these hands? In our system we can give 4-card support and a void. Eg: 1S-3D 3H-3S 3NT-4H => shows 4-card support 10-11 and a H-void. or: Eg: 1S-3H 3NT-4H => shows 4-card support 12-14 and a H-void. But still it is not possible for North to see that all hearts can be ruffed after a trump lead.

...only applies to our first bid... This is the first time I see this addition. You mean that if you have first bid another suit, then the rule does not apply anymore? That makes sense with the example you give!
