My thoughts..I voted 2♦

Not sure that the hands are correct, but they should be sufficiently correct to illustrate the issue: [hv=pc=n&s=saqt76ha32d32ck32&w=s32hj456dT4567cAJ&n=sk45hq7dKQj98c456&e=sj98hkt98dacaqjt9&d=n&v=0&b=14&a=p1c1s(Spade%20and%20Diamond%20%5Bmostly%204cS%20and%20longer%20D%5D)d3d3hpp3sppp]399|300|MP's Club Tournament[/hv] Country: Belgium (Flanders) North-South are a regular pair (Belgian sub-top) that play together for more then 2 years. West is a very good player (Belgian top) who is playing with an occasional partner (and less good). 1♠ by South was alerted by North as Spades and Diamonds. This explanation was correct (N-S play part of West's system, so it is clear for everybody that this explanation is correct). South had bid too fast and should have bid 1♥ as transfer to ♠. (3♦ of North is rather preemptive) West leads a ♦ to give his partner a 'certain' ruff. East returns a ♥ because he thinks that his partner didn't lead a ♥ from ♥A.. Result: 3♠+1 for an absolute top for N-S. West thinks that the score should be adjusted (proposing 3♥C for E-W) with the following arguments: - N-S are playing together for a long time. So it is more logic to rule against misbids. They should know their system - Clearly E-W had a bad score as a result of the misbids. - 1♠ bid is a two-suited bid. It should be treated as Gesthem. And for Gesthem misbids it is generally accepted to rule against the misbidders. - this is a friendly tournament. South should have said that he had rebid before the opening lead; or should at least accept a correction of the score after the deal. => The Gesthem argument is put in bold because that one is most interesting for me: - I think I've read somewhere that Gesthem misbids are more easily penalized then other misbids (Maybe that is only a Belgian thing?) - If that is true; do you treat the 1♠ two-suited bid in the same way? Thanks, Koen Edit: I did add an initial pass for N.

Settle a difference in opinion =)

I thought it was obvious to bid 4S. I entered the bidding and the hand in Jack and let him bid. He DBL's...for penalty. I created a profile with the bidding and the hand and these are the Par scores: - Lower then 4H or 4H down: ||||||||||||||||||||||| - 4S by W: | - 4S: ||| - 5Hx-3: || On one of the 5Hx-3 hands West was very strong and would DBL. On the other 4 4S and 5Hx-3 hands West had around 14/15 pts and a singleton/void H. Not sure if West should DBL again with that hand. 4H goes -3 on the 4S hands. => To my surprise Pass seems very clear.

Is it the better line?: It is better if LHO has: - ♠K and not ♠J - 4+c♦ - RHO finds a ♦ switch when winning CK It is worse if RHO has: - ♠K I'm not sure what is most likely. I think I would play both hands the same.

Thanks for the answers. This was the full hand: IMP's: [hv=pc=n&s=saj862h2dk97cqt83&e=Sq9hQJT8753dJTcK7&n=skt7ha6dq852caj64&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=p1d3h3s4hdp5dd5sppdppp]366|300[/hv] West leads ♥4: ♥4-A-3-2

I doubted that the DBL was really penalty. I rather thought it was a good 2155 or 2254 hand.North complained that I did bid 5♦ without a 5c♦, but I think he had an obvious 4♠ bid.

I did ruff a ♥ and did run ♠J, to keep the option open to finesse ♠7. But maybe that was not good, as I never could know to finesse the 7 next (unless when ♠ are 5-0)?

...Hoping to get some view on this...(Rainer? ;) )

Thanks Rainer. Don't you always need the Heart trick if RHO has Club Axx? I did run the spade from dummy (RHO not following), hoping that I could end-play LHO some time in spade for trick 9. How bad was that?

[hv=pc=n&s=sa7432hkt8dk2ckq3&n=sq8hj7daqj7c98642&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1np3nppp]266|200|IMP's on BBO[/hv] Lead is ♠T: ♠T-Q-J-4 Declarer next plays ♣ from dummy (agree?): ♣2-5-K-7 How (and why) would you continue from here? Thanks, Koen (I underlined the card that takes the trick; bold the card of declarer: is there any standard convention on how this should be done?)
-
This is in BBO. You don't know the real level of anyone at the table and also not their carding agreements. You suppose it is all standard. This is not a real special hand. I consider it as a normal hand and would like to know expert thinking for the play. (Like their once was an offer of a BBF expert to analyse play of normal hands) IMP's: [hv=pc=n&s=saj862h2dk97cqt83&n=skt7ha6dq852caj64&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=p1d3h3s4hdp5dd5sppdppp]266|200[/hv] West leads ♥4: ♥4-A-3-2 How will you play ♠? (and how will you cross to your hand if you want to) (You can comment on the bidding if you also suggest a play :) )

We didn't really agree MSS, but I would take 3♣ as forcing; also after the interference I would take 3♣ as forcing. But I don't think that in either case I would take it is as MSS after I showed ♥. ...Probably not a good problem for the forum, given all these uncertainties.
-
We didn't have a 100% agreement that DBL promises 4c♥, but we would both expect it to be 4c♥. I would take 3♦ from my partner as forcing, my partner wasn't sure of that. We played 4-way transfers (1NT-2NT transfer to ♦), so 2♣ does not always promise a 4cMajor with an invitational hand. I would take 2NT after the DBL as to play.

MP's [hv=pc=n&s=sa2hkj32da2ckj432&n=s3ha4dkq543cqt765&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1np2c2sdp3sp3n4s4np5dppp]266|200[/hv] My partner intended 4NT for the minors and I thought it was RKC for Hearts. My partner started with 2♣ and wanted to follow that with 3♣ as minor suit stayman.

MP's [hv=pc=n&s=sakt32haq432dkq2c&n=s54hj5da3ckqjt432&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp2cp2h(forcing)p3d(4SF)p3hp3np4np6nppdppp]266|200[/hv] Seems like 4♦ is a better choice then 4NT. My partner could have bid 3♣ (GF in our system) iso 3♦.

We didn't 100% agree that DBL shows 4cH, but if DBL is takeout then it logically shows 4cH?
-
Yes Pass would mean: nothing extra to say. Most hand without 4cH. Yes, A good hand with Good 5cC or 6cC Why 5cD and not C?

-
Is 5♦ no longer asking ♠Q after the pass on 5♣X? Is that a clear agreement you have?
-
yes, right (I didn't really verify for a Club because it didn't feel like a good lead :) )
-
Everybody wrong, only a spade will defeat it?
