  1. I would never use Capp here. 1. You know what your hand is. It's hearts. Let them find their potential spade fit at the four level. You attack with these hands, not tip toe around like a celebrity trying to dance the cha-cha. :P And bluntly, bidding 3♥ is a wimpy bid that is trying to hedge the playing potential of the hand. Get on with it, 4♥. 2. Tell pard what to do. If you make a single suited takeout, what happens if pard bids your short suit?! 3. Best of all, you know where everything sits. You're red at IMPs, and there is a nice bonus for bidding and making game.
  2. Frances, your post was one of the most cogent ones I have read here on BBO in a long time, and echoes my feelings in the full. Ironically, I think we had items 1, 2, 4, and 5 in Raleigh during the tourney! I am definitely printing this.
  3. I'd stay low here, either 1♥ or pass. Then again I'm a fan of classical preempts.
  4. I'm patterning out here: 1C - 2C 2H - 2NT 3S - 4D 4H - 4NT 5C - 5H 5S - 5NT* (choice of slams) 6C 7C, requires a lot of method I think, and the perfect hand. Be happy to get to six.
  5. Larry and I use transfers, and Reese stated in one of this texts that this is superior to playing 2M as a NF call. I have played where 2M was forcing one round prior to Larry.
  6. Happy Birthday to you, and hope that if you come to D.C. for the Nationals, I can take you out for a drink or two.
  7. In Raleigh we had a 50 imp burst in 5, but nothing like this. :P
  8. Hear hear to that Gerben, especially since Larry owes me a beer from Raleigh.
  9. I start with winning the A♥ immediately, and start developing diamonds. However, this is a really touch-and-go contract.
  10. See, I know my partner. I expect he would have me table 3NT because, well he knows me too!
  11. I'll rebid 3♥, a straight down the middle kind of bid. I wish I had the 3♥ bid as showing 3-6-x-x, but it's the best I can do.
  12. The band is starting to march - initial crowd estimates are now being revised to up to 300,000 people in the 'Burgh. I am sure traffic is a mess.
  13. The victory parade is ongoing as of now, on KDKA's website.
  14. I used to be one of the weak/strong advocates. Now, I think showing your shape is more important.
  15. I agree in full with hrothgar. With the passions of both sides, it was bound to be ugly.
  16. At the other table they played 3NT. Here I was ready to score up 10 imps, and then they read this huge number. Talk about smiles erupting.
  17. I admit only that after bailing them out, I gave them the coming to Jesus talk, and then some. Gave them the "I went through 2.5 years of rehab due to..." speech. Message received.
  18. Gerben in the U.S., the tickets given are a major source of revenue for rural counties, hence the enforcement. FYI, the victory parade is today, starting at noon, using the St. Patrick's Day route. The parade begins at Seventh Avenue and Grant Street at noon. It will then wind its way down Grant Street to the Boulevard of the Allies. The parade will end at a big reviewing stand at the Boulevard of the Allies and Stanwix Street. They are expecting 250,000 people.
  19. Don't mess with Virginia is right. I have a close friend that went to traffic court to deal with a suspended license and bam! into jail she went for 3 days.
  20. 3S would be stopper showing for 3NT. 3NT would be to play. 4C is undefined here. 4D would be the start of a keycard/Turbo auction.
  21. You are dealt this hand: [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakh973daj98xcq9x]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Auction: 1D* (4+diamonds normally) P 2C* (GF, artificial) P 2H* (x-5-4-x, longer hearts) P 3D* (natural and forcing) P 3H* (shows the 6th heart) P ? What would you do now?
  22. Thanks Jo Anne - I hope in July we will finally get to meet here in D.C.
  23. Harrison was a monster. But that final drive of the Steelers, classic, epic, wonderful.
  24. Well, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, any offense that is I think 15 over the limit, OR, any speed over 80 mph, is reckless driving, and it can get pricey.
  25. For me, slam is at best, a secondary concern. My main concern, is to preempt the majors to heck and back. 5♦ does do that definitely, but for flexibility, I chose 3NT. I wonder what Larry would choose; I wouldn't be surprised if he tables 5♦ himself knowing him.
