  1. Swishing. Pard will be happy I can contribute something here.
  2. And if 2♠ is on a five card suit, I'm more cautious than on a 4 carder suit - I'll be having to play a bit from out of my hand. Edit: Helps to read the auction right; thought 3rd seat doubled 2♦ hence the 4-4 major thought. Doesn't change my view that pass is likely right.
  3. Yes, and that's being friendly. Imagine a 4-3-2-4 hand. Now that's potentially worse since clubs will likely be 4-2, diamonds 5-3/6-2, and the heart situation downgrades a bit due to the missing length card.
  4. Part of me really wants to bid 4NT here, but I am going to resist the urge and bid a disciplined pass to await further developments. What I'm hoping for, is 4♠ from LHO, and pard finds a double.
  5. No carrots and peas for me. I think it's a hand that's a NAMYATS type opening with 7-8 hearts and power, slammish.
  6. Passing, so clearcut it's scary. The Law bidders obviously don't believe in the fact that with a 4333 hand there's a downward adjustment to be made, and the losers are completely obscene for us to consider a bid. We have 10 losers opposite a weak NT - a strong NT I might consider bidding, but pard likely has for us 7-8 losers for their opening, and with the fact they will cash two diamonds off the hop and see how the dummy flops, a club shift is nearly automatic. I strongly suspect pard to be 4-4-2-3. Let's give them the best hand we can: AKxx KQxx xx Qxx. That's a decent 14 count, but you're off one likely right on the hop: two diamonds, a trump, and the heart suit is potentially disaster if AJ sits over the KQ, which is probably the case because, they did bid over a weak NT that is constructive in tone. Now, let's give pard their normal junk of AQxx KQJx xx xxx. Not fun at all if the cards are wrong.
  7. I might bid 3♣, but will likely land in 4♥. Field protection hand for me.

    2NT

Without 4th suit forcing, I still bid 2♣. If pard finds a 2♦ rebid, I might swish it here due to lack of fit.
  9. Not close to me at all. RHO's silence is worrysome. Pass and defend.
  10. I bid 3S as stop showing, in transit to a diamond slam potentially. There's some argument for a 4♠ fit jump too since you did not overcall 2♠ to start.
  11. 4♠ doesn't help pard in terms of values. Start with a 3♥ cuebid or a 4m fit jump if this is responder's hand.
  12. I think the 30 VP scale, with 8 board matches, is the ONLY fair form of Swiss, due to balancing of vulnerability, the rewarding of successful play, and I think a fairer test for intermediate teams in the middle of the field.
  13. 1. I pass. Wrong shape, decent values, but 4333 is meant to defend. 2. I overcall a heart. Allows for a spade rebid. 3. Double (1NT takeout with Larry). Happy times.
  14. For the D.C. tourney, there's plenty of duplimate machines around to prevent the shuffle and deal.
  15. I'm in the spade crowd too - leading a heart is incredibly passive against this snappy slam. Hell, I'd lead the Q!
  16. Rather interesting to me; I wonder if they are playing 2C/D as a natural NF here, since two suits have been introduced.
  17. The day I ditched fast arrival, was the day I finally could tolerate playing 2/1 GF. J2NT is not a bad treatment if you build some structure around it.
  18. I read about 2 hours everyday (I don't own a TV) - at least 30-40 minutes is a bridge book (another 30-40 on computer books to finish up the MCSE, the rest is random, currently a text on Churchill and Zionism). I'm currently rereading a book on counting, and reading a bidding book that Larry sent to me as a birthday gift (3D and Mafia).
  19. 1NT by unpassed hand = natural, system on. 1NT by passed hand = shapely two suited takeout, at least 5-5. (1x) P (1y) 2y = natural, normally a six carder.
  20. I agree with Mike - I like knowing whom I'm playing with.
  21. With new players = swish. I am fearful of 5♦ racking. With superstars = swish. I've seen many convert this into 3NT and if they bid it, they got it, and pard's preempts are on garbage. 4♣ doesn't enter into my mind.
  22. At MPs, 2♠. At IMPs tho, 3♣. If pard has extras I can offer choice of games at 4♠.
  23. I agree with Chuck in the full. I've found in most club and sectional situations, playing SAYC is often better at pairs.
  24. Hello again - I'm thankful that I've had many inquiries about the Spingold, but so far we haven't found the right two pairs to join us in our pursuit of the riches. So, I am here to see who would be interested in a serious attempt to compete. Our goal is the R16 or better. Please private message me or email me if you're interested.
  25. In DC for the Spingold, I am practically certain there will be a larger pool - there's going to be some local teams that do well in that. Hopefully a team with a certain fruit is amongst them.
