the auction in the closed room ended after 3♣! partners not understanding each other, forgets their convention. 3♣-5 [hv=d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d3c(5%2F5M%20misbid)ppp]133|100[/hv] however, what happened in the open room after [hv=d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d2d(michaels)3c(no%20force)3h(brilliant%20or%20crazy)]133|100[/hv] -
no. is east ♥ suit source of tricks? except if you find partner with ♣kxxxxx will 3nt be on, and you might find ♣3-1 or 4-0. when you have no sensible bid you pass. bidding 2nt without a no trump hand is not good. if partner is a good player, he will balance with 8-10(11) probably with a X. now opponents in 2♥X, nice score for you. yes. agree

more lol! I have just seen the contract in the closed room. this board is seriously crazy! this is what happened in the open room [hv=pc=n&s=sakq76hqjt76dcj32&w=s932h98dq4ckq8654&n=sjhak5432dj98763c&e=st854hdakt52cat97&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d2d(michaels)3c(no%20forcing)3h]399|300[/hv] 3♥ bid: clever, too clever, or crazy? I liked it. the bidding is never going to end, right? however, at the other table, more crazy, the bidding went. [hv=d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d3c(5%2F5M%20opening)]133|100[/hv] what happened at each table? case of aquavit if you guess right. lol. -

some reply so now guess north's next bid, and then guess what happen next [hv=pc=n&s=sakq76hqjt76dcj32&w=s932h98dq4ckq8654&n=sjhak5432dj98763c&e=st854hdakt52cat97&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d2d(michaels)3c(non%20forcing)]399|300[/hv] -
watching some bridge today. peter fridin team vs. david gold team. it proves that even world-class players can go so really wrong. if you watch like me please do not spoil. q1.guess the final contract? q2.guess the auction? I will post board auction later. how would you bid this board? [hv=pc=n&s=sakq76hqjt76dcj32&w=s932h98dq4ckq8654&n=sjhak5432dj98763c&e=st854hdakt52cat97&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d]399|300[/hv] I should have posted it in 'expert' forum but it is instructional for other players also.

I see problem. if p is 5♣/5♠ no ♦ control, say 5♠1♥2♦5♣ if you bid 3♦ then what partner bid next 3♠(?), then what do you next bid? 4NT? quantitative or rkcb? with good controls and 17 points I would gamble 6nt after 3♣ - not science but the ♠A is a good card. you might get ♦ lead from the ♦K. 6nt looks about where you want to be, except if partner comes up with ♠KQJ10x ♥xx ♦x ♣AKQxx so sensible bid is 3♦ after 3♣

Transfer advance over Club
LBengtsson replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
who plays in ♦ contract these days? either major or 3Nt. I like walsh/t-walsh as 4 card M fits can be found quickly, while hiding ♦ better suit by not bidding 1♦ like canape. if partner open 1♣ then usually but not always ♣ suit will be longer then ♦. many good players play 1♦ opening as 5+. hiding responder ♦ suit by using walsh/t-walsh gives opps headache especially when responding hand becomes declarer. -
why try to be clever? east could X 3♣ bid but did not. would he X with ♣AK only or ♣AK and ♠K. I can not say. but pretty cardplay is not percentage play. I would eliminate ♦ suit and take ♠ finesse 50/50. hoping to drop stiff ♠K and make endplay not knowing distribution is not percentage.
-
better than 50% guess finesse/ruff finesse which as you have two options is then 25% chance. not good for grand slam. I would have played the way you did also.
-
yes, that is way I play it against aggressive preempt 4♥. negative X with option to pass for partner if he can make no other bid. X show 4♠, short in opps suit and values when partner open 1m.
-
I may play this way also, but lead looks stiff ♠ except if west has ♠65. I prefer to win with ♠A first trick and then lead another ♠. this might force a error from west who with stiff ♠ is odds to have trump stack also. if lead from a doubleton ♠ then win with ♠K and lead ♣10 from dummy. this again puts defense under pressure. what happen from there is guess but that is how I think I would play first tricks.

Show the spades or the balanced hand and strength?
LBengtsson replied to AL78's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
no-trump shape, bid NT. if hand ♠AQxx ♥xx ♦AKxx ♣xxx then I might bid 1♠ as honour cards are in long suits. -
I have a trump suit
LBengtsson replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
it is good to have here when partner bids 2nt 18-19 bal. a forcing 3♣ bid as checkback by responder. I have seen a few pairs use this method. -
Can you realistically bid slam?
LBengtsson replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
26 high point slam. no worries, I do not bid them :) -
you have to post regularly on the forums to be able to do this. think feature kicks in once you have posted 50 times. maybe more.

LBengtsson replied to pilowsky's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
LOL X is wrong bid after west has passed. only robot can do...surely not human? -
why are you asking this question as you know already the answer? 2♠ says more than minimum but does not promise ♦ support. any other bid looks dumb when you have a ready answer to partner's bid.

defence cock-up (IMPs)
LBengtsson replied to AL78's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
your fault, partner fault also. she should lead ♦A, see your card before leading stiff ♥ at trick two or three. leading ♥ trick one says that she do not have ♦AK, maybe ♦AQ. defense takes two to tango. declarer can false card trick on ♥ lead and you do not if partner has ♥x or xx as cyberyeti says. -
Don't bid your hand twice - Manx hands 3
LBengtsson replied to Douglas43's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
south is guilty also. poor ♥ suit and ♣Kj under 2nt bidder. I am not liking north 3♥ pre-empt raise also with 4432 even if this is bidding to 'level of the fit'. I would pass and bid 3♥ after the opps bid their ♦/♣ preference if I am allowed to do so. warning to partner have ♥xxxx support but very weak. -
I looked at hand too quick. ♣lead can be down -13, ♥lead can be down -13, ♠lead can be down -13 so only ♦ lead bad for n/s so no cheating. 3 leads down -13 maximum vs. ♦ lead down -8 maximum.
-
the ♠ suit gets blocked when ♠ discarded on ♦9.
-
it can be made by partial elimination and endplay ♣4, 9, A, 10 ♣6, J, 5, Q ♥3, Q, A, 2 ♥K, 7, 5, ♦2 ♣K, 7, 2, 3 ♠6, 4, 8, J but I can see all 4 hands :)

Another openers rebid
LBengtsson replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
with 4333 opposite a 5332 hand, and you can calculate that partner has 5332 as he has bid 2NT not a suit, bidding 4NT rkcb is asking partner to have very especial cards for slam to be there. south's ♦/♥ suit are poor -
4nt bid like 'insider trading' lol. BIG bug in robots software

Another openers rebid
LBengtsson replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
2♠ = 6♠, 2NT = bal (5323), 3♣ = 4♣ support. you would have opened 1N playing strong NT so why is any rebid other than 2NT better??? playing 2♠ rebid as minimum hand here is false, as you do not have 6♠, minimum opening or unbalanced hand.
