Cheaters can always choose to follow and kibitz a player in the opposite direction. Disallowing kibs entirely will minimise opportunities to cheat. Old song, old tune. :) my sincere apologies for having such a lame suggestion
-
It's come to a point now where it's basically taking away from my enjoyment on BBO. I enjoy kibbing as much as playing and almost all the "serious" tourneys now disallow kibbing. Those who cheat will cheat,no matter what.

Should TDs also play in their tournaments?
Brandal replied to Rain's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
I completely agree with you here, basically it must be understood and accepted by all involved that a tourney with playing TD is.....well....some "advanced form" of the MBC room.... I understand the yellow issue here,if people take all these issues to you then it's no good. -

Brandal replied to Rain's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
What's the harm,if clearly stated playing TD? What's the upside of not having those tournaments? They're usually "spur of the moment" creations, and gives a little more competitive feeling than main bridge club? Just keep the mousepointer away from the register button those few minutes it takes to fill up the tourney if you hate them :P -
Aren't you basically saying "opps should know,we don't have to tell them anything"? Strangely enough, bridge is a game of skill. Accordingly, players who are unskilled will sometimes be at a disadvantage... constructive and enlightening where do I say it isn't where do I say they won't What I wanted to know is if North knows the 4C is void/ lead directing bid, should it be alerted, and not if you think more skilled players need the extra advantage.

1. I agree it should be alerted as lead directing since North said it was,it is an agreement. Lead directing doesn't necessarily mean void I would think. 2. Hard to say, west can pass and see what unfolds,or dbl and see what happens. I also agree there is no such thing as "just bridge",that means everyone would assume or know it's lead directing, and I doubt that very much. I stand by my original opinion,no adjust, tell south to alert next time. I would ofcourse accept any TD ruling,I always do
-
No adjustment. Out of curiousity, did west call during bidding or after finish playing? I smell "we go down,4D doesn't make,South no alert" syndrome here.... :D
-
No I don't think it was sound,a contract like that will normally balance between 8 and 9 tricks, and a slightest mishap or distribution slightly different from what you "hope" will send it home to -730. In this particular case I think your pd holding Ax in hearts has to be the one deciding,he knows you have about 15+.
-
Uday here you are missing something important - the cultural dimension. I often play pass systems(Regres/Beznazwy usually) with polish partners. It is standard for them not to alert pass-opening(13+HcP,any distribution). You see opps therefore often assumes the bid means just the opposite(<13HcP,any distribution). When I bid 1♣ as a weak response they are getting confused and on top of that a possible rebid 1♦ of opener for Stayman. Here most opps. just leave the table. This was just one example but there are many - in club systems too. Just give table host the option to enable 4 seat view of alerts. That is serious bridge. Today it is not fair to play strong systems unless you have qualified opposition. Most opps leave because it's not "enjoyable" playing against a system they know nothing or little about, I doubt any alert procedure would change that.

I arranged a tourney the other day,I just rightclicked the red name and subbed on the TD function contextmenu there. Everything automated,I was impressed, especially since I had to sub about 30 in that short time. I don't know where the new players flew in from, but they did
-
I've seen this alot..... You have to play the rest of the tournament in sneakers and with a heavy backpack.
-
It was an Indy, full disclosure is for partnership agreements. The ruling was good, what was ridiculous was the TD explaining the bid. Like I said,I would alert, since I would not bid that way unless I assume pd will figure out what it means. Luis will fill in the blanks, including it's wrong to alert :D Right Luis? ;)
-
No! I don't have a single player blacklisted and I certainly don't want to find out if others have me black, not to find out that way anyhow.
-
Ok thanks Ben I guess the BBO systems already in place cater most pickup-partnerships,we're just too lazy to use them. For those who always wonder if my head's screwed on right, I did NOT mean everyone should play the same system,I meant a system designed for pickup partners/indy :)
-
Does this mean you are not going to particpate? IF so that is unfortunate, as I am sure we were all looking forward to your participation. I'm not sure I fully understand the meaning of the thread. Is it to "build" a BBO-standard-for-all-system? Or is it basis for discussing hands? Both?
-
Brandal, I can tell you from experience that there exists a better way to signal THAT: do it already during bidding and pass i.e. a gameforcing 3♣. That saves some energy and makes clear very early that bridge is not what you have in mind right now  Caren So that's why they were always taken..... My signals were too mixed too late :)
-
Opps harmed themselves? Although I feel when people choose to use a convention like Splinter in an indy, they assume pd will understand and therefore I would have alerted. I still don't see a case here, you weren't harmed by no alert.
-
To avoid pop up asking if you're there, leave in the middle of a hand to join a new table after playing no more than 1hr59mins59sec :) On a serious note,I'm sure the software will recognize mouse activity and/or keyboard activity some day. I think it's a good idea,I suspect many just have BBO hanging out in the background while at work etc.

Should it be Alerted?
Brandal replied to awm's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I didn't know this, and as the good Roland has pointed out too,in at least some countries including Norway this always promise 4 spades support. I've never alerted it on BBO,never even occured to me if maybe I should, and I'm the kinda guy who rather alert one too many or one too few generally. I even alert in indys, when no partnership agreement is in place, ruining the enjoyment for everyone in the field :) -
I think it would, for those who will :D The "funnies" will be there no matter the space....
-
I completely agree,would be great
-
I will bring my safetybelt then :D
