I have to disagree with you,I don't think 1D is ok on this hand. You start off the communication with partner misinforming him about your hand, remember it's not all about rebid,it's also a partner and a final contract to consider. :) -

I would open 1C and plan to rebid 2C. Reason is I expect partner to either respond 1D with D suit,or 1M then bid D over my 2C with 5M-4D holding. Guess it's a matter of style and agreements. -
Agree,no need for icons/shortcuts in the update version. :)

You just earned yourself about 1 Ton of respect, from me anyway. I don't see many people reconsidering anything here, including myself. :)

Wasn't the whole issue about "alerting won't help, I will assign Ave- ?" Personally this is what I think is completely off the wall, not whether to alert when having partnership agreement to open 1NT with a singleton.

Posting (very) detailed tournament rules in pay tournaments if these rules violate the laws of Bridge must be a requirement. "Maybe I'll post them next year" not quite good enough.

This one is getting old..... What does it mean? That players who don't psyche don't play bridge? Although I agree that banning them is wrong, I really can't agree with "don't ever call it Bridge". No, it doesn't mean you have to psyche, it means that if you want to psyche, you have the right to do so. By definition, games have rules, and the rules define the game. The essence of gaming is that all players in a game follow the same rules. If the rules are different, then it's a different game. The game rules for competitive bridge are specified in the Laws of Duplicate Bridge. If you use different rules, then you are playing a different game. That's what I mean when I say if you are not following the Laws, don't call it Bridge. My problem with psyches isn't the psyche itself, but a partner who "knows" enough from previous occasions to "call the bluff" before the opponents. I find it unethical, unfair and.....guess what...not bridge :) Reason for this is many feel "what's the point in psyching if we need to tell the opps"? Not saying everyone,I know there are many who have strong ethics about this issue, but not everyone. I think this is why some prohibits psyche, not because they're lazy or anything. It is sooooo easy to become an understanding that one must not speak about ever again then we can illude ourselves that we don't suspect partner is psyching. "Yes to fair Bridge!" :D

Some play 1N rebid as "may conceal spade suit when balanced" Some play 1N rebid as "never conceal spade suit when balanced" Very strange to me if neither is alertable.

When I click the DF button only some red and green marks come up under each card, then nothing.....

For me it's a matter of wanting to watch others play.... whether it be friends or world class players or any inbetween. When I play I have no preference either way,I don't really care if it's kibs allowed or disallowed when I play. I like watching others play, simple as that....in my case

unhappy op in a tournament
Brandal replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Seems to me opps thinks you should tell them you have AKTxx in hearts before N bids. I doubt "may contain 5M" would stop them, N would just assume that might be spades. It's the "bad result=complain" syndrome -
Rules that have no exception.

Do not talk about the previous hand(s) until finished playing the tourney, forget it and focus on current board. -
5-5 with no known suit?

5-5 with no known suit?
Brandal replied to Brandal's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I played in a tourney a long time ago on BBO and my RHO opened such with such a bid and explained as 5-5 any suits. My partner called TD and he "ruled" one suit must be known,I didn't know then and I don't know now if that is the case,law-wise. Or if some federations allow it and others not.... I seem to recall the TD ruling was he skipped the board (pd called him after the openingbid) and assigned Average+ for us,and prob ave- for opps. -
Just wondering,is it allowed to open a weak 2 explained as 5-5 without 1 of the suits known? Say open 2D explained as "5-5weak" and you have 5 hearts and 5 clubs?
-
Just to clarify my point,I'm not talking about the 1 down redoubled or the ones making,or even 2 down, those are "legitimate" redoubles. I'm talking about the 7NTXX 13 down and other silly things where someone clearly is upset and make a claim with no root in reality, they happen quite often too.
-
I agree,it is silly to see how many 7NTXX and such both in tourneys and MBC. I guess people who throw a fit in tourneys also do it in MBC,they get mad at someone and take it from there. What annoys me is this shows no regard,no respect for everyone else playing. It is a very selfish act of nonsense, and I wish something could be done to prevent these scores from ruining many a good board......what's the point in playing a partscore in imp tourneys when we know there will be a few awful scores to compete with?

Directing false, groundless and undocumented accusations against me: Well,at least now we know it's not ok to freely speak our minds,we get reported. I think if you'd said so in the first place, you wouldn't have to report epeeist :P -

Right we have many of such kind of laws - and all democracies based on law have that of course. The point is decisions are made by the judicial system and by that body only To me it really looks like many of the posters here need to think about the basics for constituting the democracies they benefit from. Freedom of expression is no god-given gift - it is an every day strugle. The story from yesterday is from Ukraine - here quoted from Daily Telegraph in UK(updated today I see): Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko Your point of view is not clear to me. Are you saying anyone can say anything they want about, and to other people here? Or are you debating the principle of freedom to express yourself within the boundaries of the laws? -

A point is,you should be allowed to use F*a**ery as you see fit, without "fear" of being verbally molested and offended, same with any other bridgerelated issue. If you present your "case" in a decent manner, you should expect even the voice of reason to contain himself  Noone, and I mean NOONE has the right to offend or attack you for presenting a case, they can argue strongly against the case(i.e. Flannery) but NOT you for using it. -

EXACTLY!! ;) I didn't read the thread Uday,I don't even know if someone offended me?! Seriously, unless a thread is completely degenerated from first post......please only remove offensive remarks and keep thread -
Maybe I should meantion this here too: I played in main with a human partner and opps were two very fine GIB's. I alerted my artificial bids and explained,my LHO GIB alerted his Pass, happened every time. They explained in full if I clicked on their bids, all sorts of possible explanations :)
-
I noticed playing with 2 GIB's as opps, the one to my left alerted his pass when I alerted my bid, happened every time.

I couldn't agree more, probably 1000 tourney brds played in 24 hours........not even one bad ruling a day finds its way here. I know not everyone posts here, but still,we're not exactly victims here <_<
