  1. That's cheating in my book, with the word "often" in there and no alert
  2. Yes, Norway is the 3rd country, alongside France and Poland, where they have capital punishment for a 3-card raise  Roland :) What can I say.....we're insecure :)
  3. I bid 2D I know my "ways" are ancient, fossile, simple so I describe my hand best I can. I don't sit and wonder if opps will enter or not unless partner is passed hand, then I might wonder but still bid 2D :) Direct raise=4 cards support with me thank you :)
  4. I guess only way would be to load lobby first, then tables, but taking 4-5 seconds I don't see the benefit. A slow connection will be slow no matter what me thinks. And on a fast one you won't be able to tell the difference. ;)
  5. version 4.1.7 I still have the same problem with losing sound logging off BBO. It's like the sound has been reduced 90% and I have to reboot to get back to normal. Uday,Fred...any idea what might cause this? Frode
  6. Firstly,I don't consider it a "right" to be able to kibitz. Secondly,I don't ever ask to kibitz tables in MBC or teachingtables, practicingtables where disallowed. Thirdly, would I pay to kibitz a tourney? Probably not,I don't learn anything without the ability to ask or the player explaining thoroughly. It's still an enjoyable privilege,so far.... Teaching tables are another matter,I never expect something for nothing, when teaching is involved. :)
  7. Hasn't happened again, might have been just some XP issue
  8. It wasn't even a pay tourney,I've noticed it's spreading widely among the free ones too.
  9. A tourney just now 6 tables.......9 star/world class players. Maybe I'll kibitz,it will be almost like vugraph.... But oooohhhhh nooooooo......disallowed I don't really know what to say,I just dislike not being able to kib the "creme de la creme".
  10. I have started to run tourneys at BBO very recently, and I come cross this bids. Since those bids can not be alerted (to be seen only by TD) and there is no such function on the software in use I am not allowing "psyche" bids during my tourneys. I have examined general "approach" to psyches and agree it is the part of this game however "at least" TD is to be informed when done. Due to "workload" of the TD those tables might not be attended "punctually" and it may cause "problems" on the game in progress eventually. As a common approach to this situation on many bridge clubs it was allowed once or twice in a season. Since we serve "random" players unable to monitor and mark them. On the other hand when its done on repetition it might have been "guessed" by the partner and turns to a hidden agreement. I am still "neutral" on those bids but I dont allow "psyche" on my tourneys. Your comments will be appreciated. Arsen According to some, psyching is such an integral part of bridge that without them it isn't bridge. According to others,it is possible to enjoy bridge without psyches. I'm sure you've read the posts, and found a wide variety of opinions. I think you should run your tourney the way you feel is best. There will be people disagreeing with you either way and it is hard to please everyone :)
  11. And, the opponents can consider it quite rude (pointing out their defensive shortcomings like that). Yes,I certainly feel something like that when I'm defending, and have done very badly. :)
  12. I agree with all you are saying, except this. ty or typ when dummy comes down is fine, but why dummy must say glp I can't understand. In real life bridge you say thanks or something similar when declarer sees dummy, but dummy never says good luck partner. Why should it be different on the internet? I don't think it's impolite not to wish partner good luck. I think it's just fine to do the same as you do at the table with a ftf partner. Roland It's a little bit of the same thing with "wdp" really. Like the word "love",when overly used it completely or partially loses it's true meaning. When my pd says wdp and I have just managed two extra tricks only thanks to bad defending, it really has lost its value the few times when wdp is in order. :)

Roland I understand what you're saying, when I play with f2f partners here in Norway I usually say "værsågod makker" not "lykke til". :)
  14. Very solid point,Roland,I'm afraid it's not your imagination. I wouldn't dare asking a star player to play with me "if my life depended on it". However,I would be just as "intimidated" if I won a tournament with a star I guess..... If asking at the partnership desk "hey,Roland, wanna play with me?" that way I could get a straight answer,a yes would be a bonus :) If TD or host told me,"hey you just won a tourney with Roland" I would think......."but does he consent?" :) So maybe, for players who want to partner with a star,it would after all be easier asking first?
  15. Strange, I find it completely reasonable for BBO to let the stars play without paying. Sure they lose your $1 but you will attract more $$ for them with your presence. If I was able to pay for play I'd certainly prefer a tourney with stars without caring whether they payed or not. Not only would I be able to brag about playing against Roland Wald, but I'd learn more from playing against masters than from playing against my peers. Petko Boukov How about non-stars paying to play with the star, paying for both members of partnership? That way, instant reward, and no revenueloss? Stars could enter partnership desk and be invited by players, offering to pay for both, sounds like an idea to me. I'm sure non star players would be more inclined to enter such tournaments,if they're sure to play with a star player, than if only the top 3 winners would get the honours...... :)
  16. I agree, people should always say gtg or bye or something, no matter how long they've been at the table. Tablehoppers seem to be very impatient, some even leave before they arrive. For me "?????????????" or "..............." or "why H????? why C????? why D????? WHY S??????" people are more annoying anyway. Not to mention people who don't say "glp" "typ" and don't say a word for an hour.....it really doesn't take alot of effort.
  17. I don't think anyone is disagreeing with making one's own decisions
  18. To me,6C on that particular hand is saying: "Go play somewhere else partner, I'd like to play bridge alone" So you are a wonderful pd and will show your pd you have a semi-solid 8 card club suit plus a spade void and two red aces. Go ahead I can't wait to see how you do that. Your comment applies to hands where a player takes an unilateral decision when his pd could've have helped, when there's no way to let pd take a good decision I prefer to bid what I think I can make. I never claimed to have a better suggestion,Luis, or suggest that your bid is wrong for you. There are obviously hands where I bid where I want to play, this hand just wasn't one of those. My biddingstyle,if you will, suggests 2C for me. :)
  19. I should probably add that I didn't qualify for Cavendish this year(or ever)
  20. After 1S-4S and 5 spades in dummy I would expect my pd to reason I might have single trump and not put any emphasis on either the 4 or the 10. Suit pref on a trump ace lead sounds a bit off to me,with single 10 he would shift H and that might very well give declarer extra trick(s). However if my pd shift to club,I would lay the K because declarer will probably have at least A8x avoiding club losers anyway if I lay the 7,and I would expect pd to play the J from J10x and there is also a chance of pd having the ace,and declarer will only need to ruff one club to play the J good if he holds AJTx
  21. Maybe you're the best bridgeplayer in the world, I don't know, but even then I would say it's rather pretentious. :) Does your pd also have you as the only authority? I think he has to,if it is going to work out? Trusting your own judgement is an entirely different thing isn't it? I mean,we all have to do that every time we play a hand of bridge? You think I sit and ponder....."I wonder how Fred would play this,or what would Fred lead here?" Nah....sorry Fred,I don't
  22. To me,6C on that particular hand is saying: "Go play somewhere else partner, I'd like to play bridge alone"
  23. I was quietly kibbing a tourney now when this error message occured: NetbridgeVu.exe application error The instruction at "0xcd83720a" referenced memory at "0xcd83720a". The memory could not be "read" Click on OK to terminate program
  24. The way I play FSF 3NT would in this particular case show the Ace of spades,so I would also bid 4H. If I were the north hand I would definitely go further and end up in 6H
