  1. I think (but would have helped to explain) Lycier's point may be that the descriptions usually include suit ranges, while here it seems to allow any distribution at all.
  2. While it may frustrate some people, I have no issues playing a basic-bot challenge event, which is probably the simplest solution (and how the first few events worked.)
  3. After 3♦, a takeout double by East doesn't seem out of the question to me, and 3♥ and 3♠ are both cold (in fact a bit unlucky not to make 4♠). Even if north knew you held the maximum AKQ diamonds and K hearts, 3nt is still quite flimsy, so I'm not sure I disagree with GIB here.
  4. This has been happening (sporadically) nearly every day since, so something is definitely up.
  5. You could, but it wouldn't be very helpful. That is exactly what (basic) GIB does. If it doesn't have a rule telling it what to do, it passes. The purpose of these threads is to get these bidding holes fixed.
  6. Sometimes when joining a table, there can be a long delay/lag due to the fact there are a huge number of hands downloading in the 'My Results' tab. (The last table I joined had over 100). While it's useful to be able to see the last few hands when joining a table, perhaps these could be limited.
  7. :) The last Flash update (26.0.0.137) was released July 11, so seems unlikely that would suddenly start causing issues from a couple of days ago only (unless the BBO client was change to rely on a future release, which seems unlikely).
  8. Twice over the last two days, something has gone crazy with my chat in BBO - as I type most characters get preceded by a broken character (and sometimes even a newline). Copying and pasting the result elsewhere shows they're characters like \u0001, \u0002, \u0003, etc. Copying and pasting normal text from elsewhere into the chat line works; it's solely when typing into chat. If I reload the window, it fixes itself (as least, until the next time it happens - seems random so far). (Low quality) demo: Has anyone else experienced this, or has anything changed in the client recently? Feels like some sort of escaping problem.
  9. Nope, just finished another team match - other table still have 4 boards to go. As soon as our table finished, I got sent to the pending team matches page, with a 'no team matches of that type are available' screen. If I try clicking on the 'running' tab, it showed all running matches, not just the one I completed. This seems to happen virtually every time.
  10. Never seen this one before. [hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=smerriman&s=SAK952HJ73DAK3CKT&wn=Robot&w=SQ87HKT98DT862C76&nn=Robot&n=SJT43HAQDJ97CAJ43&en=Robot&e=S6H6542DQ54CQ9852&d=w&v=o&b=8&a=P1C(Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20%21C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)P1S(One%20over%20one%20--%204+%20%21S%3B%206+%20total%20points)P2S(Simple%20raise%20--%203+%20%21C%3B%204%20%21S%3B%2011+%20HCP%3B%2012-15%20total%20points)P3H(Game%20try%20suit%20--%203+%20%21H%3B%204+%20%21S%3B%2010+%20HCP%3B%2011+%20total%20points%3B%20forcing)PPP&p=D2D7D4D3S3S6SKS7H3H8HQH4HAH6H7H9C3C2CKC7HJHKC4H5C6CJCQCTC8S2HTCADTD9D5DKSAS8S4H2C9S5D8STC5S9D6DJDQDASQSJ]400|300[/hv]
  11. Hm, it's definitely happened multiple times when our table is first to finish (since normally the barometer is on, and I find the table that way). Will have to do some more digging to find out why I'm not being shown the right screen.
  12. Once our table has finished in a team match (and the other table hasn't), I often want to go and kibitz the other table to see how they're doing on the remaining boards. Is there any way to do this if I don't remember who the host was? I hardly ever notice/remember, and usually have to go to the results tab, find a completed board at the other table, click on a username, and use that to join their table. This only works if the barometer is on; if it's off, it seems impossible. It would be nice if somehow, once your table shuts down, you see the pending table so you can click through to kibitz, like when a tournament ends. (I have a vague feeling this happened at least once, but normally I just get sent to the full list of pending team matches).
  13. GIB's book bids and their descriptions can't possibly be comprehensive to cover every range and distribution at all times (neither can a human's). It picks what it thinks is the best 'lie' that will lead to the optimal contract. Not saying its bid here was right; but in this case it has to be about the long term expectation of the result and the score, not whether the description matches.
  14. Unless I'm missing something, based on GIB analysis, only 3 of the 5 times on lead is the wrong card chosen (trick 2 nothing works, and trick 9 the right card is played). Still, a pretty interesting hand! Both sides desperately trying to get the other to lead the killing diamond :)
  15. [hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=smerriman&d=e&v=n&b=1&a=1C(Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20!C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)D(Takeout%20double%20--%202-%20!C%3B%203-5%20!D%3B%203-4%20!H%3B)P2C(11+%20total%20points%3B%20forcing)D(11-21%20HCP%3B%20rebiddable%20!C%3B%20!CKQ%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)][/hv] I've had this sequence occur a few times, and can't understand the descriptions at all. Are these all completely wrong, or I am missing something fundamental about how you're meant to bid in this bidding sequence? (I'm not sure what 'standard' meanings are.) 2♦ shows 2- ♣, 5- ♦, 3-4 ♥, 3-4 ♠, biddable ♦, 12+ total points. 2♥ shows 2- ♣, 4-5 ♦, 4- ♥, 4 ♠, biddable ♥, 12+ total points. 2♠ shows 2- ♣, 4-5 ♦, 4 ♥, 4- ♠, biddable ♠, 12+ total points. 2nt shows 2- ♣, 3-5 ♦, 3-4 ♥, 3-4 ♠, 12+ total points Rdbl shows 2- ♣, 3-5 ♦, 3-4 ♥, 3-4 ♠, 16+ total points, forcing Pass shows No suitable call, 2- ♣, 3-5 ♦, 3-4 ♥, 3-4 ♠, 12+ total points, forcing So bidding a major promises 4 cards in the *other* major and a 4th diamond, without promising 4 cards in the one you bid (albeit described as 'biddable'); bidding diamonds doesn't promise any number of diamonds (albeit biddable) or deny majors; redoubling shows extra strength despite none of the other bids denying it, and no trump and passing don't show any information at all. Higher level bids are equally bizarre (eg 3♣ is the same as redouble, except described as 16+ HCP, not total points; while any jump rebid shows 2 stops in that suit, without promising any length).

  17. GIB plays New minor forcing. A bit of 2♣ here is artificial, and you'll get a response in spades if GIB has 3 card support. I'll let the actual experts expand on this (and probably why there are better things to play than new minor forcing, though all systems need to include a cheap forcing bid here).
  18. Can you post a link to the hand? Eg via My BBO - Hands & Results - Recent Tournaments - My Hands - Export Deal - Handviewer link.
  19. GIB ducking for no reason at all has been posted a huge number of times. I think we just need to accept it's never going to be fixed.
  20. Sorry to hijack MrAce's series, but if his hands were worth a LOL, this beats them all. Free Daily Tournament, MPs. 22. If you're able to use judgement as to which bid to make, then surely they can't have the same meaning.
  23. Yep, seems like this is a big problem. When (basic) GIB is south in this situation.. it passes.
