Event 10 format information and score reporting
smerriman replied to frank0's topic in BBO Forum Events
A tie is a valid result - but what has that got to do with this scenario? -
No, it's pretty high priority - in fact the only reason the bug exists is because of a deliberate switch to try to improve the performance of Flash (which turned the above setting on by default).
-
Do buttons start working if you resize the window? There is an open bug in Firefox at the moment that can sometimes result in broken click events in flash applications when changing between different tabs (and maybe different windows): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1394408 I've also discovered sometimes it can result in the buttons 'shifting', so eg you have to click a certain distance away from the actual button. In all cases, a quick resizing of the browser fixes it temporarily. The real solution for the time being is typing about:config into the URL bar, and flipping dom.ipc.plugins.asyncdrawing.enabled to false, at least until Firefox fixes the problem.

I was expecting a pretty clear consensus on pass, but it has turned out a bit less clear-cut than I had imagined! I've set up a poll on Bridgewinners for more thoughts: http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/bidding-problem-2-mkk6er7hw1/

linxu01 accepted my challenge over a couple of days ago now, but still hasn't completed it yet. Sent a reminder message yesterday; the challenge is expiring in just over 3 hours from now. -

Nope, passing is correct. I knew it probably would be, but I ignored myself and bid 3NT anyway :( Partner had exactly what you'd expect to make the contract hopeless: xx xxx KQJxxxx x

Yep. The restaurant has a bad rating, it doesn't seem to be improving, and there is a large crowd outside knocking on the door asking if they can help ;)

Fastforward to trick 11. GIB holds AQJ as its last three cards in a no trump contract. I play the K, and GIB ducks. GIB is broken. If BBO don't have the resources to fix GIB, please please please open it up to more people.

Don't check the box, it gets auto-upgraded. -

In case it helps anyone, I've placed a round robin schedule into the 'Schedule' tab of the above results spreadsheet. No need to keep to this strictly, but if you challenge roughly in that order it may help people not have too many on the go at once. -
As gwnn pointed out above, this thread isn't about idiotic plays, which are very common - it's about impossible plays, which aren't. So your example is completely unrelated. The lack of response from BBO is rather sad :(
-
Doesn't this happen already? Every time I have a pending challenge, the challenges button turns white, so I always know there is one to play (and I think it looks different if there's one you haven't accepted vs one that isn't completed - maybe a red ring, I forget). http://i.imgur.com/nx1iAEm.png

Even if they're not advanced, I'm pretty sure the robots are seeded to ensure they run the same simulations at different tables (which is why a slightly different discard changes the simulations and the results, but the same play has always lead to identical results). Feels like the old version of GIB may not have rolled out to everyone playing the free weekly somehow. Edit - actually, this probably makes sense. I think all instant tournaments use deals from past tournaments; otherwise if you're the first person to play, you'd never see any results. So the people being compared to didn't play it as the free weekly; they played it before GIB was upgraded.

Response to cuebid raise needs better definition
smerriman replied to smerriman's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I was just testing out sequences in a bidding table. Here's an example I just created now: [hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=smerriman&s=SAKQ98HA432D5CJ65&w=S7HKJ9D432CAQT974&nn=Robot&n=SJ65H87DAK876CK83&e=ST432HQT65DQJT9C2&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1S(Major%20suit%20opening%20--%205+%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)2C3C(Cue%3A%20limit%20raise%20or%20better%20--%203+%20%21S%3B%2011+%20total%20points)P3N(2-3%20%21C%3B%202-3%20%21D%3B%205-%20%21H%3B%203%20%21S%3B%2014-15%20HCP%3B%20stop%20in%20%21C%3B%20likely%20stop%20in%20%21S)PPP]400|300[/hv] -

Well, the definitions have definitely changed in the new version of GIB. It seems not very carefully however; a bid of 3NT by the opener in the above sequence shows exactly 3 spades (yes, by the person opening 1♠). -
GIB Release Notes - updated with each new version

http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/news_fetch.php?id=4198 Still no mention of any of the most commonly reported play bugs being fixed :( -
So, has been 4 months now and a new version of GIB released. What did you discover when investigating this bug, and was it fixed?
-
I'm guessing if you do that, East will win, lead to the ace of spades, and get a spade ruff; in which case, you need to just play out your diamonds straight away.
-
I'm in.
-
That's true, but precisely why this sounds like a buggy description. The same auction in hearts or spades, or a direct takeout of 1 of any suit, are all described as 13+ total points and shortness in the doubled suit (because GIB doesn't try to combine the strong hand distribution into the description with OR).
-
While the interference was 1 level higher, I raised the same concept here and apparently it's meant to be fixed in the next version of GIB (to be released 'soon' a month ago).
