Raising the suit of opponent
Lovera replied to Lovera's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I have just now seen it but if standing at Gib indications doesn't UCB properly. Such as :in 2♣ bidding example Gib opp had 4 points (K+J) and the hand was 3-4-4-2 and bidded 4♣ cueing 3♣ by my Gib partner starting sequence ending in 5♦ (for a down). However ? -
Infact Australia was guest. The "special effects" are one of "keys" of this mega-show that is liked to me.

Raising the suit of opponent
Lovera replied to Lovera's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Infact not having seen before, to better valute, i am asking informations about it. -
I have seen, playing anymously vs Bots, that is on a new figure: the raise of opp meaning support bidding previously by partner. It can be interesting, but to verify for goodness, to apply always with compatibilty with own system used. The raise can be also with jumping. An example can be:(p -p-1♣- 1♠, p-2♣ by defender having for cards on supporting spade and 10/11 points (than if is forced the third level should be 12/13). I having saw it had to prove with a bidding like this:1♦-(2♠)-3♠ having Kxxx in diamond and AKQx in heart suits-p, 4♣-p-4♦-p,4♠-p-5♦ all passing. There was it playing vs J10xx but Gib doesn't impasse (dummy with Axxx in diamond) while another bidded 6♦-1. Although i saw another bidding :2♣-3♣ by my Gib partner-p-p, X-p-4♣ with four cards in heart and diamond suits-p-4♦-p-5♦- doubled by me for -1 down. This "mixed raise" already talked about in this forum (probably by an italian team idea) was threated but in a "almost theoric way" (it is better to explain with example hands) should be termed so because is raised also the opp suit when usually is that of partner. What is the official and original convention ? What is changed about the other type of raising ? How to apply, if this is not yet on proving, with occasional/random partnership ? Thanks in advance.

The toponomastic of Bari, realized in illuministic period, is like a chessboard. I live in at five blocks away Petruzzeli theater. Although this topic is opened for everyone that want to condivide the same things i've done for the city which lives in.

With the occurence of days of saint patron of Bari, St. Nicolaus (San Nicola), the program of RAI1 "Linea Verde Orizzonti" has producted this trasmission that allow me to make you watching Bari, my city (choose Chrome browser). You can see also the Petruzzeli theater that was burned in 1991 and with a fine and highly fidelity restructuring re-opened in 2009 (on C. B. Cavour Avenue), images of N. Sauro Promenade in front of the Adriatic sea (Lungomare) and can see walking the labyrinthic old town (Bari vecchia) where many people prepare foods that can be buyed (orecchiette). This program has about an hour of time and is possibile to see also the place where i work (at the second floor of the "Old ex Post Building" when showed BaLab) and is in italian language via RaiReplay. I hope that it be not interrupted enter a week because this application allow to see every program transmitted on Rai (i.e. choising Rai1 or Rai2..Rai Movie..Rai YoYo.. and selecting day you can have hours and programms available if in blue color) but only for a week changing subsequently. Have a nice viewing.

My intervention on this topic about argoument is that situation has happened to myself once in the same way yet if with better cards by my partner (that had two Aces). When i was reading indications to solve i think that is get round problem without solving but instead moving the point. It needs, i think, as few as possible to change bidding remaining with convention used (by GIB or with a common/random partner). As it to say : GIB converts information by splinter in 10-card fit for the RKB bidding 5♠ and, although, is already at this level the problem. That, when doesn't occur it(=splinter and four cards support) allows (if the case) to play at the "safe" fifth level. I infact suggested that in bidding of this type, with minimal informations by partner starting 4NT and with heart suit agree only plus an Ace and King of heart "to lie" about longness in trump so to bid 5♥ instead 5♠ (see my topic "Slam bidding from Relaxed Club" in Interesting Bridge Hands).
-
Hi johnu: here we are talking about the same cards and bidding in post #1 with the difference that spade and heart are inverted than 4NT is "Blackwood [H]" now (instead of "Blackwood by smarriman as explanation of 4NT).
-
My interrogatif was pleonastic: infact with heart agree trump the answer is ( the same ) 5♠ than forcing 6♥ now and we are off contract (that is the point).
-
The problem that we are talking and seeing perhaps can be considered (if as work-in-progress) in amplied manner : when a convention must be tested, it being spade the highest suit, in first step is ok but subsequently needs to consider the case of other suits involved in bidding. In this case if spade and heart suits are traded what is the answer if is started 4NT ?
-
MrAce hello :i think that perhaps you should be right about ("imprecise") final score. On this subject there is another one (that i thought talk about): you play a contract and the planning is ok and defence the same (let's say you realize 4♥+1 for a better score) but another pair gets 4♥+2 because an opp playing "not good" makes theirs gift of a trick for a very good score (type impossible contract) and this one occurs also when is bidded a slam having (=rush ?) a loser more than necessary. Is this way to attribuite points right ? Is actually the lone one that is applyed or can be any type of adjustament possible to rappresent better the pair that had played better refferring at the game of the hand ?(Lovera)

Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
When you have an idle opposite the squeeze card and tranfererts(=comunicants) are not one (as in Type B recessed in post #2) the squeeze card and idle can be in N or S indifferently. -
Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
It is right. To adopt a terminology already used in official way (in this case by Chien-Hwa Wang and Romanet) "when is leaded the squeeze-card, West and East are squeezed at the same trick. It is called a "simultaneous" double squeeze. If the situation is such that one opponent is squeezed first, while this partner is squeezed at a later trick, it is called a "non simultaneous" double squeeze." The squeezes, then, are positional(=in favoureble or R position about threats) or automatic when interchanging E-W cards squeeze works yet. In reciprocal squeeze ,the suit with all winners is cashed entirely and winners with threats ending squeeze on opp turning. The term "recessed" is used ,although, to indicate that is another winners more in ending with threat. -
Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
I although suggest, expecially if you are reading the Love book (there is an up-to-date edition by J. Pottage) to remain and referring at the text for a more clear study of double squeeze in all its forms/endings and subsquently to watch reciprocal endings. The schemes in post #2 are i.e. two endings simultaneous type B (the third is a balanced with three cards and unilaterals divided). The sequentials have, as told, a winner with an unilateral and are becoming by a "trasformation of twin entry ending" having the double threat (=B) togheter squeeze card (with one or two winners as the case). -
Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
The exercise 26 on pag. 59: "Bidding N/S (opp silent) -/2♣, 2♠/3♥, 4♥/4NT, 5♥/7NT, all pass West leads ♠ J North ♠ A6542 ♥ 10652 ♦ A2 ♣ 107 South ♠ KQ ♥ AKQ4 ♦ QJ ♣ AKQJ8 T.1: East plays ♠ 8. Queen wins. T. 2: ♠ K. East discards ♦ 3. Spread the hand for contract . Analysis 26. West ♠ J10973 ♥ 9 ♦ 10754 ♣ 532 East ♠ 8 ♥ J873 ♦ K9863 ♣ 964 Two rounds of Heart will espose the situation. If East has a stopper, Type R double squeeze with threats R, ♥ 4; L, ♠ 6; B, ♦ 2. Cross in Clubs ; cash ♠ A (last L winner); run the Clubs. If West stop Hearts , Spade-Heart simple (left to you). Note that with ♣ 10, 9 switched , the simple squeeze would still make but the double would fail (23, fifth paragraph.)." -
Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
About point 2: the author continues telling "In 20 you were told to cash the L winners when in doubt. We have now learned that for Type R - commonest of the three forms - this a standard procedure. Thus in planning the execution of a double squeeze , the first step (after identifying the threats ) is to note whether the squeeze is Type R of Type B. If Type R, get rid of those L winners! In most cases, the rest of the hand will play itself. Let us point out explicity the failing case. If South holds neither a B winner nor the last L, then all L's "must" be cashed while South has remaining an F or R "entry", in addition to the last F-R winner (squeeze card). That is, Declarer must be able to re-enter the South hand and "then" lead the final squeeze-card. In the rare case when this is not possible, the squeeze fails. (An example presently.) (From Love text pagg. 56 and 57) -
Although the JEC hand in post #41 has (medialy) 16 valutation points, it satisfies the 20 rule, has a good club suit and a void (possible) to utilize :why not open ? To speculize ?

Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
This type of is termed "reciprocal squeeze" where the two winners that are toghether at unilaterals, squeeze reciprocally and at turn the opponents. When where is no winner with unilaterals you have a simultaneous ending where on the same trick opp are squeezed (three endings) and when there is instead a winner toghether you have a sequential (usually four endings but there is another with unilateral blocked). Love studies endings not operating a separation among types and rules should satisfy the same but, it being that his analisys is different and goes deeply about argoument from rappresentation by others authors, perhaps can help to differentiate. -
Type R Double Squeeze questions (C. Love)
Lovera replied to jimmyg010's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
As i think you can have understood i have this book ("this Dover edition, first published in 1968, is an unabridged republication of the work originally published in 1959."). About your point n. 2 this is written in the chapter II 23 second paragraph pag. 56 and in the fifth the author ends saying : "In the rare case when this is not possible, the squeeze fails. (An example presently [the exercise 26 pag. 59].)". -

Hi, i have put the url also because you can read that Laocoon166 topic entirely for yours better knowledge; such as, have you seen post #21 by nige1 addressing to Pavlicek double squeezes examples ? This mine is infact the number 10 and another with automatic descarting is the n. 9 so that idle and squeeze card can exchange each other and you leading the heart King and spade Q before A obtein the positional balanced double sq. with 3 cards (type R). In post #21 by nige1 there is another type R presented also in reciprocal form, the n. 14 recessed reciprocal. -

Hi jimmyg010. Probably what i said in topic "Double squeeze technique in C. Love" answers to you: see http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/66028-double-squeeze-technique-in-c-love/page__view__findpost__p__796330 -
Following post #42 and also considering post #47 too it'd help to see cards in, let's say N and S as hand responding ,in the form ♠, etc. it being trump the long suit.

Hi 1eyedjack, sorry but the phrase quoted in green on 3/4/16 in post #43 is by bridgepauli and not mine(Lovera), bye.
