  1. Having played LOBs for a while here are my suggestions: You will need a way to ID the LOBs. 1) Upgrade your 2/1 bids to 14+ hcp and opener must rebid 2NT or higher to confirm a 13+ hcp opening bid. (This will require rebidding a 5cd Major.), or 2) Opener rebids 2NT to ID the LOB, Not Forcing and can be passed. Our solution was to open 1M with 8-12 hcp (pre-alert required in ACBLand, 2) Open 1C Artificial with 12-16 hcp hands, and 3) Open 1D with 17+ hcp hands (All alertable). Using the rule of 20, your example is a pass, but using ZAR points your example is an opening bid of 1S (26 = 9 + 10 + 4 = 26)
  2. I have for several years used a 1NT response to several different strong 1♣ opening as the following: (a) 5-4 or better in the majors, or (b) any 5-5 hand There is plenty of room to show responder's hand, or Opener can ask in his own suit.2♣ asks: 2♦ = 5,6♥ and 4♠ 2♥ = 5,6♠ and 4♥ 2♠ = 5♥ and 5♣/♦ 2NT = 5♠ + 5♣/♦ 3♣ = 5♣ + 5♦ 3♦ = 5♥ + 5♠
  3. No, I don't think so. My copy of Nightmare (in Italian), 2001, page 15: 1♣: (a) Mano bilanciata(semi) 15-17 p.o (b) Mano sbilanciata 15 o+p.o. - 4(tricolor)0+♣ {c} Mano sbilanciatta 11+ con 6♣ 5x - valore 16+ (d) Qualsiasi forcing manche Thus, item {c} 11+ would render transfer responses null and to Nightmare's1♣ Opening (less than 15 hcp)
  4. I am also currently playing a strong 1♦ system mostly for Match Point Pairs competition. Our bidding has improved with 1♣ being the catch-all and we have simplified some responses to the 1♦ opening bid, thus less memory work: 1♥ being 0-4 hcp or 8+ hcp and 1♠ being 5-7 hcp, 1NT = the majors, 2♣ = 1 or both minors, 2♦ = 8-11 balanced and 2 Major = 5M + 4♣/4♦. We (Keylime and I) also play canape with 4-card majors. Thus, opening bids have the following ranges: 8-12 hcp Open 1M or 2 of a suit or 2NT (minors) 11-14 hcp Open 1NT 12-16 hcp Open 1♣ 17+ hcp Open 1♦
  5. Are you assuming the GCC was written by a professional writer? Me thinks the evidence is otherwise, thus your assumption may be incorrect. I asked rulings years ago if we could play transfers over a Precision 2 club opener and the answer was NO because 2 clubs was not strong. (But 2NT asking is allowed over weak 2-bids ... so another example of ACBL reading the GCC according to their mindset?) Conventional responses to 1♣ opening bids have been allowed for a long time if the 1♣ opening bid is forcing AND strong. I see no evidence that anything has changed on this interpretation by ACBL. The GCC continues to be a mess and open to unclear interpretations.
  6. The GCC still says "strong." 7. ARTIFICAL AND CONVENTIONAL CALLS after strong (15+ HCP), forcing opening bids and after opening bids of 2 clubs or higher. http://www.acbl.org/...ntion-Chart.pdf T16 REV. 02/14 #520226 Printed in USA by ACBL
  7. Thank you. I thought the two suiters were shown by opener after the 2♥ relay ...
  8. I have looked at their convention card and it is very difficult to understand the responses to 2♣ and 2♦. Does anyone understand the back of their CC?
  9. Richmond Relay is the old Montreal Relay with an opening 1♦ promising 5-cards and therefore the ♣ s can be as short as one (instead of two).
  10. I would NOT super accept, there is no side weak doubleton for an extra trick playing in hearts. In fact, I would not open this hand 1NT, it has too many quacks and not enought As & Ks.
  11. This is the scheme played by Cohen - Berkowitz: 1♣ - 1♦ (0-7 hcp) - 1♥ - 1♠ = 4+[spades & 0-7 hcp] - 1NT = 16-19 (or whatever range you decide) 1♣ - 1♦ (0-7 hcp) - 1♥ - 1NT (0-4 hcp) - 1♣ - 1♦ (0-7 hcp) - 1♥ - 2♣ = 5-7 hcp and 0-2♥ 1♣ - 1♦ (0-7 hcp) - 1♥ - 2♦ = 5-7 hcp and 3♥ 1♣ - 1♦ (0-7 hcp) - 1♥ - 2♥ = 3-5 hcp and 4+♥ 1♣ - 1♦ (0-7 hcp) - 1♥ - 2♠ = 3-5 hcp and 4♥ & unknown splinter (2NT asks)
  12. Glen, You are correct it took me several readings to understand the question. Use the One Club Complete approach (by Kathie Wei and Judi Radin): 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ = 4+ ♥ and one round force. If you have a singleton ♥: 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♠, 4+ ♠ and one round force. If the question is how to bid this hand after a positive response, usually rebid NT or raise, but do NOT bid a 4M as opener's 1st rebid over a positive response. This is an item for partnership discussion as there is no standard agreement, except that 1st round bids show at least 5cd suits.
  13. It is not clear what you are asking. Does responder have a positive response, or a negative response of 1♦. Edited: 16:30 pm EST
  14. "A Precision Opening Bid of 1♦ shows 11-15 points and a four-card diamond suit." page 136, 1971. Or page 131 for the exact same quote in the paperback version,1972, 1976.
  15. I have ALL the books issued on Precision or variants thereof: Precision Bidding in Bridge: The Story of the Cinderella Team, C. C. Wei, 1969: "One diamond promises a 4-card suit (although a bid in a 3-card diamond suit migt be ventured for tactical reasons)." page 17. Precision System, Edited by Terence Reese, printed in Taiwan, no date: Shows hands that don't fit 1NT or 2 clubs and thus opens 1♦ on 3-cards. "It is never correct to open One Diamond on a doubleton." Bidding Precisely, Volume 1, C.C. Wei, 1974: Many examples opening 1♦ with 3 or Kx. Match Point Precision, C.C. Example: :♠: AKJ7 ♥: A9 ♦: 86 ♣: JT832 page 64. Precision Bridge - A Bid for Every Occasion: From Alpha to Omega,Frank Maxie Davis, 1976: "It [1♦] may be as few as two cards and as many as six."
  16. Still looking for a USA ACBL Tournament Partner for pairs in 2015 - must be a Strong Club Partnership. I have 3300 ACBL Masterpoints in 12 years.
  17. I have played such a defensive system for 5 years now and am quite happy with it for Match Point Pair events. When partner does not have his share of hcp, then we get to play in 1 of a major instead of 1NT. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
  18. Why limit it to only when opponents open 1♣? The Overcall System uses the Power Double and Roman Jump Overcalls: (1 of a suit) X = 16+ hcp any distribution. Responses: cheapest bid = 0-5 hcp. Non-jump bids are 5cd suits and 6-8 hcp and jump bids are 8+ hcp and G.F. Intermediate singel jump overcalls and RJO take care of 1 and 2 suited hands. 3-suited hands are handled by 1NT overcall for takeout. http://www.jeff-gold...em/foutnote.txt http://www.fernside.com/bridge/TheOvercallStructure.html
  19. I have played Match Point Precision with the opening 1NT, 13-15, denying a 4-cd major. I have graduated to playing an opening bid of 1♦ promising a 4-cd major. Now use 2♣ and 2♦ opening bids as 6 of the minor or 5 of the minor and 4 of the other minor. I am very happy with this scheme Reference: The Diamond Major - http://www.bridgeclu...ude/Diamond.htm
  20. I have played a version of Berkowitz-Johnson / Radin-Wei (Kathy) One Club Complete: 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥: a) Balanced and 20+ hcp, or b) 4+♥ and one round force, may have a longer minor 1) 1♠ = 4+♠ & 0-7 hcp 2) 1NT = 0-3♠ & 0-4 hcp 3) 2♣ = 5-7 hcp and 0-2♥ 4) 2♦= 5-7 & 3♥ 5) 2♥ = 3-5 & 4♥ 6) 2♠ = 3-5 & 4♥ & Mini-splinter1♣ - 1♦ - 1♠: a) 4+♠ and one round force, may have a longer minor 1) 1NT = 0-4 hcp without an Ace 2) 2♣ 5-7 hcp and 0-2♠ 3) 2♦ 5-7 hcp and 3♠ Details available by e-mail or http://www.bridgewit...stems/Ultra.pdf
  21. I checked other - In several partnerships I use the Pit Bulls Approach for a 2♦ Opener: Acol 2♦ and Blue Team 2♦ combined: a) Strong Balanced with 5 or 6♦ & 20+ hcp, or b) Any 4441 hand with 17+ hcp (BTC Approach), or c) 4-losers or less with ♦ primary, or d) 4-losers or less two suited with ♦ and a shorter side suitThis is a rare bid, about once every 3-4 sessions. Ref: http://www.edmontonb...r/ACOL%202D.htm In my Strong Club partnerships I use 2♦ as an intermediate 2-bid: 10-14 hcp and 6♦ or 5♦ and 4♣, no 4-cd major.
  22. The only reference is this interview: http://neapolitanclub.altervista.org/eng/norberto-bocchi-the-big-bang-theory-interview.html
  23. Another idea: 1♦ - 2♥/2♠ = 4-cd ♦ support and good 5-cd Major and invitational values.
  24. Nottingham Bridge Club in England: I actually played the Nottingham Club with a local player, delightful! Paris, France (can't remember the club name): Played with a local player. Milan, Italy (can't remember the club name): Wanted to play Blue Team Club, everyone was playing SA or 2/1 http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif Played Precision with my wife before No Smoking in clubs. Played E-W and one room was all smoking, yuck had to play there half the game. Too difficult to remember all the clubs I have played in USA ...
