  1. 1) 4♦ too weak to dbl (and 3♦ is more constructive) and my hand really looks like a preempt (So I forget the ♥ :( ) 2) 3♣ isn't it what I have 3) 4♥ pragmatic and vul that's a good hand 4) Pass 5) Pass Alain
  2. Poor play is always easier to see double dummy !
  3. Totally agree ! The site is very functional as it is now (specially since the vugraph schedule page has been reviewed to show local time !) and I'm very happy with it  :P Alain
  4. Are there players amongst us that never made a serious error ? Playing bridge implies errors and as Roland says they are part of the game ! Btw, how do you want to win if your opps don't make errors :P Alain
  5. 2♥ obvious for me too and for all the reasons the others have already explained ! Alain
  6. Bidding 3S as a "tempo bid" loses a lot of space. I think in such a sequence there is a point in using 1st step as "nothing to say", not promising/denying anything. If pard does not expect anything in diamond, he can now bid: -3H = offer a moysian in Hearts or asking to bid 4D if I do have diamonds -3S = offer a 52 fit in spades or asking to bid 4D if I do have diamonds -3NT = showing that he indeed had a stopper but wanted to verify if I had support for diamonds; in that case, if I do have D support I'll bid 4D - and so forth.... I totally agree and will discuss that with my partner. It is clear that it's better to use the more economical bid to show "nothing to say" ! :D Alain
  7. I always though Windows was free of bugs !! LOLLLLLLL :D :D
  8. So, I suppose that UCB and ICB are 2 different words to mean the same, aren't they ? B) Alain
  9. 3♦ = 3 cards 3♥ = 5 cards 3 NT = ♣ stopper So I have to bid 3♠ : sort of waiting bid B) Alain
  10. What do you call UCB and ICB ? Can you give an example ? Alain
  11. #1: 2 aces and a five cards suit. If there are 2 NT, there are 3NT so better go for it ! #2: 5♣ : Q of ♣ is enough for slam so it's clear to make a move. #3: Dbl and will bid ♦ on ♣ #4: Agree with 1♠. I'll pass 5♦ and leave it to partner (I'm minimum and partner is probably able to see that I'm short in ♦, ok not void but ...) By the way what is vulnerability in this last one ?
  12. 5♣ : 8 cards suit and extra shape and as Phil said ♥ are an illusion ! Make them guess as soon as possible B) Alain
  13. By making a 2 over 1 response, the responder always promises a 2nd bid so, no, he's not allowed to pass !! ;) Alain
  14. In french standard ! 1♦-(2♣ overcall)-2♠ Forcing 1♠-2♦-2♠ Forcing because responder promises a 2nd bid 1♠-2♦-2NT Forcing because 2♦ is 11+ and 2NT is 14+. 2♠ would be min 1♠-2♦-3♦ Forcing (again, 2♠ would be min) 1♠-2♦-2♥-2♠ Non Forcing 1♠-2♦-2♥-3♠ Forcing, slam invite (some play as invitational) 1♦-1♠-2♣-3♠ Non Forcing (6♠ - 10-12) 1NT-2♥-2♠-3♣ Forcing game 1NT-2♣-2♥-3♣ Forcing game
  15. Well, I must admit that your little help helped me a lot ! ;) and that I probably wouldn't have found it at the table :( Alain
  16. If west is 3-4-4-2 (likely given the 2♣ overcall) then take the lead in dummy, ♥ finesse, cash ♥ace, K♣, ♣ to ace to come to this position : [hv=n=sqjhxxdxxxcx&w=sxxhjxdaqjxc&e=sxhkdtxcqjxx&s=sakt2hdxxxxc]399|300|[/hv] Now ruff a ♣ with ace(or king)♠ ans west is squeezed ! if he discards a ♥ you will establish one ♥ in dummy if he discards a ♦, your 4th diamond will be good if he under-ruffs, you will be able to ruff your last ♦ in dummy ! So now, play a ♦ and you are home ! This line of course works also when ♦ are 3-3 Alain
  17. Hi Mauro, I have a question : Playing these transfer responses, if you have the natural 1NT bid (6-10), what do you do if 1NT is transfer to ♣ ? :)
  18. 1) 2♥ since the double of my partner promises 4♥ 2) 3♥ given the ♦ shortness Alain
  19. Same for me : 2♠ ! You don't need too much for game even if the ♦ void in partner suit is not great news. Alain
