  1. In general we have agreed that everytime an artificial bid is doubled, "pass" shows a stopper in the suit doubled and partner redouble to redo the artificial bid ! Example with stayman : 1NT -P- 2♣ - dbl - Pass = stopper in ♣ 2x = response to Stayman without ♣ stopper You can try it, it works very well  Alain
  2. I play : 1NT-P-2♦/2♥ - dbl - 2♥/2♠ = 3 cards Pass = at least one stopper in ♦/♥ (partner XX to redo the transfer) XX = No fit, no stopper ! :) Alain
  3. First of all, I have tools to open the east hand but if you don't have, pass is fine. I'd have overcalled 1♠ with the west hand. Suit is inexistant but nice shape and 6 cards. Sometimes you have to live dangerously :) Alain
  4. 3NT on 3♠ no alternative :) Dbl on 2♠ if partner bid 5♦ I'll live with it  Alain
  5. Agree that it's a good idea ! :) Alain
  6. Agree and I don't know the best treatment to give to 1) ! Idea anyone ? I play 3) as 4M' 5+m Alain
  7. Hi Gerben, Well, 1NT can also be a stopper and a bal hand <= 5 HCP, no ? Alain
  8. OK Ben, I understand the philosophy now !! :D :) Alain
  9. Ben, Is it ♥+minor or ♥+♣ (precised michaels) ?? Alain
  10. I think I would bid 2NT too ! Tough hand ! :) Alain
  11. Agree with Roland that forum is not easy to find ! :) Why not create a button for forums ? B) Alain
  12. Still used nowadays in french standard ! 2♦ = GF any hand Responses are something like : 2♥ = 0-7H no ace 2♠= 1 major ace. 2NT = 8H+ or 2 kings no ace 3♣ =♣A 3♦ = ♦A 3♥= suit by KQ at least fifth no ace 3♠ = Same in spade 3NT = 2 Aces Alain
  13. I voted for "Jack of diamonds, queen of spades etc" ! :) Like this we'll have 52 ranks (from 2♣ to A♠) and we'll be able to handle Ben's ranks when he will reach 100000 or 500000 posts !! :P :P :)
  14. 3♣ To hide those ♣ to partner is a crime !! :) Alain
  15. Poor Fred if this is the case ! :P Where are we going if we ask things that already exist ? :) :) Alain
  16. OK, Roland, but if the undo is refused, partner won't see anything so it seems like an improvement to me ! Alain
  17. Same for me ! 2♦ on a 3 cards suit is not for me ;) Alain
  18. I play it as preempt in a minor with 4♣, 4♦ = Namyats I'm very tempted to switch to reverse Namyats which as Justin says seems superior. Alain
  19. With a pick up partner I woud consider it F1 round as this is a new suit ! In my system : F1 round ! Same as 1♣-1♠-2♣-2♦ F1 round NF bids are : 1♣ - 2♦ = 5♥+4♦+ NF 1♦ - 2♥ = 5♠ + 4♥+ NF Alain
  20. Another treatment is to reserve 2NT for 12-13HCP balanced and bid something else with 14 as in the structure below : 1♣-2♣ 2♦ : 3 clubs. (if you can have it). Otherwise it shows extra values with something in Diamonds. 2♥ : Extra values. something in Hearts. 2♠ : Extra values. something in Spades. 2NT : 12-13 HCP. Balanced. 4 Clubs. 3♣ : 11-13 HCP. 5+Clubs. 3♦/3♥/3♠: Renonce. Extra values. 3NT : 18-19 HCP. 4/5 Clubs. After the responses 2♦ to 3♣ the further system is: 3♣ : Minimum. Unbalanced hand. 2NT : Minimum. Balanced hand. New suit lowest: Hold / Cuebid. Game forcing. Jump in a new suit: Singelton and slaminvitational. If the opener rebids a majorsuit at the lowest level f.ex. 1♣-2♣-2♥-2♠-3♥, shows 5 card major suit and 6+ minor suit. 1♦-2♦ 2♥ : Extra values. something in Hearts. 2♠ : Extra values. something in Spades. 2NT : 12-13 HCP. Balanced. 4 Diamonds. 3♣ : Extra values. something in Clubs. 3♦ : 11-13 HCP. 5+Diamonds. 3♥/3♠/4♣: Renonce. Extra values. 3NT : 18-19 HCP. After the responses 2♥ to 3♦ the further system is: 3♦ : Unbalanced hand. 2NT : Minimum.Balanced hand. New suit lowest: Hold / Cuebid. Game forcing. Jump in a new suit: Singelton and slaminvitational. If the opener rebids a majorsuit at the lowest level f.ex. 1♦-2♦-2♥-2♠-3♥, shows 5 card major suit and 6+ minor suit. Extra values is (13)14HCP+ Alain
  21. When you bid 3♥ you don't know if partner has 4 or 5♥ and this hand remains an invite :( Alain
  22. Well an ace is an ace so it will play even if partner is short in ♦. So how do you know your partner is short in ♣ ? :(
  23. Don't you have any rebid problem when you open 1♦ ? How would you tell your partner that you have 5♠ ? For me this hand will have full potential when I will discover a ♠ fit so it is quite important to know it as soon as possible. I prefer to pass than open that with 1♦ :(
  24. Suit quality is of course important but you have to do with the hands you have been dealt. If you only bid suits you want your partner to lead, you will have serious problems to describe hands ! Come on, that fact is OK for overcalls but less on openings. I think it is quite important to tell your partner you have 5♠. :(
