  1. How about this motto recently penned in Denmark, "Think before you do a Roland"
  2. I kinda feel sorry for those making the calls, as they are not the responsibles, but on the other hand as long as you keep them busy, someone else is not bothered by them. If you feel particularly evil, try this: http://www.xs4all.nl/~egbg/counterscript.html actually do not feel sorry for the callersmost of them play a game and quite frankly, they know exactly what they are doing. trying to make money from cold calling, all you neeed is a thick skin, if you do not believe me, go visit a few call centres and see it in action, it is quite entertaining
  3. because , maybe I grouped too much into my post, they are the same principle as a scammer via a voice on the phone, a letter or a mail shot. I believe, some companies in the UK have been addressed with this issue by the vounlatry conduct of code, they phone you and a recorded message plays and in some cases, You will have to verify this (I was told by some one in the trading standards department) you actually get charged when you press to answer them, so you are paying to abuse them :P. Thats how they get scammed, I also understand that some of the calls originate from the East, that is how they get round legislation, quite common on mobile phones I believe, there was an article in one of the british tabloids recently and they explained why there was a lot of silent calls (when I dig it out I will post it verbatum, without my usual biased or less tahn tactful and short answer).
  4. The point of spam, is in the numbers game, send enough out and someone will answer and spend money on something that they dont want or dont need, because some smooth talking person will close them down. banks lend money ( a huge amount) to firms that employ these tactics, they arrange loans, through these comapanys and pay them huge comissions, you have to accept that while these calls are a pain in the ass, they do have a purpose. Banks, so not care who intermediaries are, they just lend money and they wash thier hands of these tactics, by telling people that they work to a strict code of practices and they are squeeky clean, they also say that they will not deal with companies that employ these tactics. I say Bull *****. All governemnts can stop these sharp practices if they want, no cold calling, no spam or unsolicited phone calls, another voluntary code of conduct similar to the ones that got the Global Banking crisisup to speed. There is money to be made in spam, if their is money to be made, the governemnt can tax it, so why would they really want to stop this sort of thing.
  5. I object to Blade bringing facts into the forums, that is not normally what happens here
  6. Obviously this strays a bit off topic, but it seems to me that if the University wants to offer a pork free room to the two girls then how to do so should be their problem, not your daughter's. Governments and other organizations often get very overbearing, I would say idiotic, in their claim that they are protecting someone's rights by restricting the rights of others. yes slightly off topic, but all the same pork issue or gay marriage, who am I or any of us to say they don't have the rights to thier beliefs or life style choices, with the pork issue, something is being forced upon my daughter, with the gay marriage, that is not being forced upon anyone, it is thier choice and we should as a tolerant society accept others ways, as long as that does not impact directly on us, I will never be involved in a gay marriage, but quite feasable, I could be invited to one by a friend. I really think that the pro 8 supporters should define exactly why they are supporting it, I can't think of a valid reason that is not bigotted. The only person, I can see that it effects any great amount is the actual vicar who is asked to perform an actual ceremony to wed the couple, maybe if a priest and a choir boy wanted to wed, they would not have any strong objections I can not see the Muslims objecting to this, well only 50% of them, I believe the other 50% are not allowed an opinion on any thing
  7. My daughter just started uni this year, she was in the halls of residence, she is now sharing with, two Muslim girls (actually I may be a bit unfair here, they are definately not jewish, so I am assumimg they are Muslim), that speak little english, she was given instructions, that she is not to place any pork products in the communial fridge or have any pork products in the communial kitchen and she had to remove the bacon from the fridge, failure to do this would result in her removal from the Halls of residence. Please, discrimination or just common sense?, my daughter loves bacon and eggs for breakfast, why is she being denied this basic right to eat how she pleases, surely this is more of an important issue, than denying gay marriage, which , I fail to see is anything other than bigotry on the part of those voting for prop 8. Personaly this issue is a bug bear of mine, But , the fact she has to share with these girls is not an issue, I personally object to segregation and that is what would happen if they resited her in the HOR
  8. a Voluntry union of two people (some may think more, I have no gripe with that, as long as they are happy) marriage does not mean a vehicle to breed, so why should gay couples be excluded I don't care for their views, I am a bigot
  9. Churches should be banned, they are a bigotted load of idiots and they are the ones we should make laws against wow, wayne... that sounded ... well, bigoted :)
  10. Churches should be banned, they are a bigotted load of idiots and they are the ones we should make laws against
  11. Why should they not have the same rights as you or I, opposition to this is like living in the dark ages, live and let live
  12. I fail to see a problem here, anyone that breaks in a robs someones home, deserves everything they get.
  13. Having brought coffee from McD's on many occasions, Would the steam coming out the top of the cup (which I can assure you it does) not put the blame on the moron sticking it between her legs?
  14. Does this mean I am not on your Christmas card list? :) No, I will send you a christmas card if you like, but I am pleased that you are talking to me actually and to have some one so esteemed responding to one of my posts, I am suprised that you are not billing me "$2,000 very overpriced dollars for your time:)
  15. nice of you to respond to one of my posts with your usual pompous attitude Mike
  16. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Elastoplast to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents,Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
  17. I was watching telly the other day and the news was on about the "GREAT BAIL OUT". Being a man of limited intelect and financial savy, I am curiious why they are saying , if we get the banks back to normal and get credit freely available to all then the confidence will come back into the market, is this a good thing? Are we not just heading out on the good ship Titanic, was not freely available loans and some very unsound financial packages, wot got us in the shite in the first place. I am not in Warren Buffets class, I can't afford to buy the odd bank, knowing when the tax payer has bailed the greedy bastards out, I can make another killing. Does anyone here, think the politicains will be looking after joe public, or just trying to keep thier wealthy mates up in the land of Narnina, hoping for a dose of gratitude. One way or another America has tried to control the world with its financial muscle, they brought the house down, with some pretty piss poor regulations and financial packages, I do not feel confident, that anything will change, except, when this bail out gets the credit market back on its feet, the consequences could well be catastophic, for all but the wealthy in the not to distant future. (btw, I also feel that a lot of other countries have contributed to this mess and do not push blame away from our own load of muppets running out country)
  18. mine did :) I am a kettle calling the pot black I am afraid, I really do hope that some sort of social resposibility is on its way from the politicians :)
  19. If people brought houses as homes, which is what should happen, no one would worry about it as an investment. Walking away from your house and debts and explaining to your kids that they no longer have a home and mum and dad will again never be able to borrow the money to buy another house, it is probably a very hard thing to do and something no one does lightly, I doubt even a large proportion of the 10,000,000 would take that way out Mike from what I gather is part of a rich american family (possibly like the Kennedys) who have no idea what it is like for normal people (ones that do not understand the banking system etc etc etc) Me on the other hand have been saying for some considerable time, that the greedy bastards are gonna have to pay the price (was taking crap) it looks like just ordinary people are gonna pay the price, not the well to do bufoons that cause all the problems and in that statment I class all the proffesional lawyers, bankers business folk, that put money before social responsibility Just because you are well educated and succesful does not mean you are right, it just means you have taken advantage of situations for your own gain and could not careless about the consequences The bubble has burst (and it was pretty obvious it would) I hope it is not just normal folk that get to pay the price for greed
  20. Hi Fred and Uday I am sitting here listening to youtube and I keep getting the most irritating sounds, "bite me" and you make me blush" I think the adverts are now getting depressingly irritating, please, the flashing ones, I can live with, but not when sounds are interfering with the music I listen to please please please do something about them  I know I can control it with <Ctrl+W> but I prefer the wider screen
  21. My wife likes this program, I am not much of a TV fan myself, but I watched most of it because my wife thought it may interest me, because it was about a bridge couple. How wrong she was, I see nothing good about these types of programs, all that it seemed to do was to display the man and his wife as emotional retards, no idea why he did it, no idea what he hoped would happen, but if I ever had the opportunity to meet the guy, I think I would go hide in a corner until, he left the building.
  22. hi, I think they frown upon, naming people in the forums, for obvious reasons, maybe you could edit it out, to read player X or North or something like that)
