  1. My experience is : 1NT-2M-dbl is best used as negative showing invitational values and support for other major.Otherwise it is difficult to show this type of hand.
  2. My hand was AJ10xxx Kxx X xxx.My partner thought I had a singleton ♥ and tried to give me a ruff. When I suggested that hmm indicates 'missing 2 aces and he should have returned ♠his angry retort included most of what gnasher has posted. He further added next time instead of paying to attention to trivial details like hmm I should concentrate on own cards and select proper opening leads eg ♥K on this deal. On the other table North hand opened 2 spades E passed south after a crafty 2NT ( strong inquiry!) played in 4 spades and made. hmm
  3. [hv=pc=n&s=sq82haqj632d84c72]133|100[/hv] NS Vul N dealer IMPs .Bidding was N opens 2♦ (Multy weak M or strong any)-dbl by E(Values or Very good ♦ suit)-2♠by S( ♥ support)-3♣byW (Natural 1RF) P (Confirms weak M almost certainly ♠)-3♠(cue in spades ♣support)-P-4♥(Cue in ♥) P-5♣-p-6♣ -p-p-p So North has shown a weak 2 in Major.East has shown Good Diamond suit or Opening values or both.South has shown abilty to play at least upto 3 ♥.West has club suit and at least opening values. N lead ♥4 (std leads) Dummy has singleton ♠, 3 rags ♥, 7 card Diamond suit headed by AKQ and Jx in ♣ Declarer lets out a barely audible hmm before playing a card from Dummy.South wins ♥Ace. What should South return?
  4. Thank you guys.Thank you very much.
  5. This was the responder's hand .[hv=pc=n&n=s92h852dt643cq432]133|100[/hv] Thank you guys.
  6. Ooops The title should be Improving concentration.Shows I need to improve concentration even when typing
  7. [hv=pc=n&n=sakj76hkq4dakj82c]133|100[/hv] Q.1 What is your opening bid? Q.2 If you decide to open 2 clubs and in your system 2 heart response shows 0-3 then is opener's rebid of 2 spades forcing? Q.3 If you play 2 diamond as 0-7 then is 2 spades forcing? Q.4 If 2 spades is forcing What does responder rebid holding 4-4-3-2 pattern doubleton spades and 0-3 hcp in either case?
  8. Our team is competing in our nationals (India ) where one may have to play around 60 deals everyday for a period of 7 days. Our team's concentration level seems to drop after the first few sessions (say about 40-50 deals). When you play week long tournaments how do you cope with the stress? Please suggest some tips to keep oneself fresh and concentrate on every deal.
  9. I am not sure where I should post this and I do not mean it as a complaint.Just curious about ACBL rules which apply to bbo tourneys. A friend of mine regularly plays acbl tournaments on bbo and he recently reported what I have given below in bold. "I was warned by director for bidding 2D over 1NT as single suit major. I (had) alerted the opponents. He says that according to ACBL any bid after 1NT other than double and 2C cannot have a meaning other than bid suit. It can be bid suit plus something else. Since my 2D did not imply diamond suit my bid was deemed illegal Does it mean Multi Landy is not allowed on bbo acbl tournaments?
  10. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sakq9xhakxdxcakxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP Bidding P-P-2♣-p 2♦-p-2♠-p 4♠-p-?[/hv] 2 Diamond shows 3-7 hcp ; more if it is a balanced hand; if 3 hcp must have K; confirms game. After 4 spades would you try for a slam ?How?
  11. Congratulations To Diamond Team .Special cheers for Fred .Good guys finish first!
  12. for takeout? For penalty. I assume My partner has opened 1 nt showing 12-14 hcp and a balanced hand.I have 2 quick tricks 1 slow trick 4 trumps 10 hcp.I do not have a game but i am expecting contract to go down. Could you please explain to an intermediate player (who masquerades as advanced on bbo) whats wrong with penalty double?
  13. A trump lead .At matchpoints I would double.
  14. My impression of most commonly used conventions on bbo is texas transfers ( i assume u mean 2 level) 10 Capelletti/ 9 Ogust / lebensohl/ dont 7 smollen 6 namyats /gambling 3 nt 3 Sandwich 1 NT 1 Importancewise Transfers and Lebensohl are indispensable. Sandwich NT seems quite useful but hardly anyone I know plays it. Gambling 3nt is not at all useful. Others have some merit but could be substituted by other conventions.

  16. In a game between 2 equal chess players The opening moves will seldom confer a winning advantage to either party. So the obscure opening will only give an edge at best.It will still need to be converted into a win.Between 2 unequal players say me and Anand this will not matter at all as He will easily beat me even if I have the advantage of a minor piece. This is very different from bidding mishaps which nearly always give one side a huge advantage. The obscure methods in bridge will therefore lead to random results and the game will degenerate into a game of luck rather than a game of skill. You mention an opening like g4 .As a chess player I know that this move cannot be refuted tactically but i also know that the present chess theory considers this a positionaly weak move and therefore I will be in a position to take suitable measures.Thereafter the game will become a battle between my positional/tactical skills vs my opponents corresponding skills. If I fail to see a trap which instantly confers a winning advantage to my opponent then it will simply mean that I failed tactically. This is different from bidding contermeasures to obscure bids. For example if i open 2 nt and announce it as weak in any suit even worldclass opponents will need a lot of guesswork to reach the right contract.
  17. Me and Ravia6 play quite regularly
  18. In the 80s David Levy an international chess master made a similar bet that he can beat any chess playing computer program .I myself remember beating 'Novag' one of the better programs in early 80s.It was a simultaneous display where I was playing against 17 other players In 1996 Deep Blue a computer program defeated Gerry Kasparov perhaps the greatest chess player of all time.I believe millions of dollars were riding on the outcome of this match. So beware Justin .
  19. Gödel’s Theorem http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/ G%C3%B6del% 27s_incompletene ss_theorems . Gödel proved that “A complete system cannot be consistent, and a consistent system cannot be complete”. The drive by lawmakers to achieve completeness on the one hand, and consistency on the other has frequently brought the lawmakers to a losing head to head tussle with Gödel. Most lawmakers, oblivious of the limitation, and in their attempt to achieve completeness invariably introduce inconsistencies. Consistency, or completeness: Ultimately, we can have one or the other – not both. What will YOU choose? This seems to be the crux of the matter in all discussions pertaining to Bridge Laws.
  20. ♠ Q tho every time i lead from QJx dummy turns up with A/K 10 x :(
  21. 2♥=0-3 which does not include a king. 2♦=3+ denies 1 and half trick (an ace and a king OR AQ in same suit) if unbalanced; unlimited if balanced without a 5 carder , 2NT=5 card ♥ promising 1 and a half trick All others natural 5 carders promising 1 and a half trick Kokish relay is a very useful gadget Problem hand 4-4-4-1 positive .Best to respond with 2♦
  22. I ask my mentees to always give attitude signal on partners lead; and always give count signal on declarers lead. I then tell them if attitude is clear then give count on partner's lead and if attitude and count are known to P then to show suit preference.Usually in a mentoring session there are 2-3 hands where you can illustrate this point This may or may not help them in defence initially but it does force them watch partners cards and to think about counting the hand which after all is the basis of good defence in my opinion. Standard or udca makes no difference again in my opinion.
