  1. dbl ♠ K shud be a trick in defence.May not be much use if we declare but we should be able to set 4♠.Seems there are 19 trumps but wild distribution and impure trump suits so LOTT suggests dbl .If P has no defensive trick and only long ♣ she may bid 5♣ Would it be a mistake to bid 1NT instead of double?I am assuming we have methods to find ♥ fit if N has invitational hand with ♥.
  2. When I try to adjust a score in a teammatch i am asked to enter a number of things like board number name of player (any player the menu says) and then the score to be adjusted. How does one enter the score ?I have tried many ways but the screen always comes back with score not in right format. So how does a host adjust the score? What is the right format?
  3. Brilliant lead.Was it Fourquet? :)
  4. http://www.clairebridge.com/encheresetsystemes.htm Scroll down and you will see Sontag Weishel Power precision notes. They give effective methods to deal with all sorts of interference on precision ♣.
  5. I agree all the points Josh has made so far. I was the 2♠ bidder at the table and I thought this hand was on the heavy side for a 2♠ raise. The bid could easily have been 3 HCP lighter. The system used is not mentioned. If playing sayc 2♠ can be lighter but playing 2/1 the lighter hands are shown via a forcing NT by many players. So I think 1♠-2♠ would be a good 7 to bad 10 raise.
  6. I wont describe them as clowns but isnt it better to check if this system is allowed?
  7. I prefer to play a strong jump shift after trying out the following methods. Our basic system was acol opening 4 card Majors and 12-14 NT.You could try them on 1M if you play 5 card majors. 1)Weak Jump Shift .With one of my P still I play this, and with precision p we play it on 1♦.The results are ok 2)Mini splinter 4 card support and 4-4-4-1 shape and 8-10 hcp .Given up because of low frequency 3)Fit Jump 4 card support with a 5 card weakish side suit ,Didnt work well. As one poster has remarked above SJS it makes slam bidding very easy.
  8. Cant see whats wrong with bidding 3♥ help suit game try.if P has 9 points in M or 4♥ or short ♥ game could have reasonable play .and if he doesnt 3 couldnt be too dangerous a level. Wish 2 of the passers here whose comments i value had been more informative.
  9. Fred Personally I am not at all worried about security aspect.I do not think any players i know of will have access to electronic gadgets which seem straight out of James Bond Movies. However some of the paranoid players themselves have apprehensions of the 'signals-from-kibs' or 'washroom/smoking breaks' variety. This used to happen in pre-vugraph era also.Vugraph has added an extra dimension.Organizers try to keep players happy. Personally I prefer instant vu-graph to delayed vugraph and delayed vu-graph to no vu-graph.
  10. Fred I am a bridge lover and organizer. As a bridge lover I love to watch vu-graph .As an organizer however I cannot afford to spend a huge amount (by my standards) on security gadgets. I do not mind watching the vugraph after 30 minutes delay.I believe a significant number of people will be of the same opinion. So please consider arranging delayed vugraph for organisations which cannot afford the security arrangements and instant vugraphs for those who can.
  11. If a pair plays 2NT as a 'strong' preempt in either minor (say ♠Qxx ♥x ♦AKQxxx ♣ xxx) will it be legal in your country? My P and I tried to play it but were told that it is illegal. We were told the suit should be known. We were also told that if we open 2NT with 'opening hand' values and describe it as either minor it is allowed. Now the hand that we have in mind for opening 2NT is 10-12 hcp long minor (6+) with most of the points in minor suit which many people might consider opening 1m.So would we be justified in describing our 2NT as opening hand values and either minor?
  12. I assume FltC means less enlightened players like me.Please tell me what a player should do with 6+ ♥ 0-3 hcp, short ♦ when rho overcalls 1♦.Is preempting to 2 level with 6 cards and to 3 level with 7 cards the best plan? How is it better than passing and then bidding 3♥ as here? Why should 3♥ be dismissed as insane or suicidal?A reply without sarcasm would be much appreciated.
  13. I would advise all beginners to pass this one in 1st and 2nd and open it in 3rd and 4th at favourable vul or equal vul.
  14. [hv=s=saxxhxxdqjxxxcakx]133|100|Partner opens weak 2♥[/hv] Will you look for game?
  15. [hv=s=saxxhxxdqjxxxcakx]133|100|Partner opens weak 2♥[/hv] Is this hand good enough to look for game?
  16. I will open this hand 1NT. But it is possible to open 1♦ if you play openers rebid shows 12-16.Then a 2♣ relay helps to show point range and support for partner's major. After a response of 2♣ opener's rebid of 2♦ shows the given hand.
  17. If tartan weak 2 bids are a part of system then 2♠. Otherwise pass.
  18. With 16 total tricks the law does not recommend bidding 3 over 3 with 17 it does.So its a border line case .I will bid 3.

Recently an erudite player suggested to me an alternative way of playing Forcing NT.After 1M-1NT-2♣=12-14 and 2♦=15-17.Seems very suitable for this hand especially because his system allowed opening 1NT with 5 card M.
  20. 3♠.Preemptive.2♠ for my regular partners would be constructive 3 card raise. To show a sound raise to 3 or better we use cue bid.
  21. [hv=d=n&v=b&s=sakqxxhxxxdjckqjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP Uncontested auction 1♥-1♠ 3♠-4NT 5♣-5NT 6♦-?[/hv] Your system is 12-14 NT and 4 card majors. 3♠ is invitational 'good 15-bad 18' 5♣=0/3;5NT= confirms all Key cards and trump Q and asks no of K;6♦=1K other than trump K. So would you bid the grand?
  22. I agree. Btw I have a concrete rule that I hopefully will never break. If I hold two aces against a slam, I will lead one of them. Every time I have seen this rule broken at the table the leader has come to regret it. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=skqxxhkxxdxxxxxck&w=sjhqjxxxdaqjxcqxx&e=sxxhxdkxcaj10xxxxx&s=sa10xxxxha10xxd10xcx]399|300|Scoring: IMP 1♥-p-p-1♠ p-2♥-5♣-5♠ p-p-6♣-p p-dbl-p-p p[/hv] I wish I had known about Jdonn's rule before this hand came up. I led ♦ 10.Declarer an old man claimed after the second trick when ♣ king came down. Then he told us he had been feeling dizzy, not having taken his blood pressure pills, had not heard his partners call (no bidding boxes),and not called 5♣ on his first turn as he had not sorted his cards properly(!).Then he went to the washroom came back refreshed. I was dizzy for the rest of the round.
  23. Pass unless there is a bid to show weak minor 2 suiter like tartan 2NT.
  24. small ♠.My regular partner's dictum:against 1M-2M-4M always lead the other major. :)
  25. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=sa10xxxxha10xxd10xcx]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♥-p-p-1♠ p-2♥-5♣-5♠ p-p-6♣-p p-dbl-p-p p[/hv] E/W playing precision so West hand limited to 15.What would you lead?
