As you can see, the reasson people consider double here is not because of the shape, but because of the strengh, Q more and they probebly double, but again not because of the shape. as for the shape, always give higher priority to majors, the difference between a the 5 card major you have in spade, and the 3 card minor is huge. (especially that the spades looks so nice). change the spades and diamonds and people will like the double much more.

How do you define your 2s cue bid playing that style of which 3h show 5 cards?
-
I'm talking about hands like AX KXX KXXX KQXX (this is 15 hcp, but could be nice 14 for the question) It would be great if 3NT would show such a hand, and let partner decide where to play, and avoid playing a 4-3 fit.
-
I am not sure about the following sequence: 1♠ - D - P - 3♥ P - 3NT What is the meaning of this 3NT, must it be too strong for an initial 1NT overcall or its just an acceptance of the 3♥ invitation with a nice 14 points. If it can be both, then there is a new question, should partner switch from 3nt to 4♥ with a 5 card suit (lets say unbalance) and if he does, should the 3NT bidder bid a natural 4NT now with 19 points and 2 hearts ? (this actually doesnt make sense sicne responder could have a 6 card suit) Thanks in advance Sharom

This actually support my claim of how strong are e/w hands and how much of the east power west doesnt know of, so that even when the suit is not the one he wished for, he still has 11 tricks. Anyway the total power of the e/w hands is enough for game, but the system if I understand it doesnt let them get to game. Even without the 3S competition, west I guess would bid 3H and easy will pass. I cant say plying this style of 2S is wrong since some good players play it, but on this hand it seems to cost a not reaching a game.
-
I think the blame is the system. Playing this type of micheals where both the minor suit is not known and the range is width is the cause of missing the game here. (the competition in spade didnt change that much) In my area no one play like this, when we play micheals its either sub opening or a very strong hand that will make a second bid later.

I wish I knew why he doubled with this hand. If anyone can explain this please do.

Thanks, my line :)

if he holds KQ or KX or QX and the K of heart i would have made, but also if he got Kxx Qxx or xxx or 10xx i make with no relation to the K of heart. if he got K10x or Q10X i would go down if west will know to throw his honor on my Ace. In can play the A of spade early which will make it practically imposible to throw the honor.
-
The only option i see so far is to find lho with honor doublton in spade, along with diamonds and club breaking nicely. win the A diamond, A club, ruff one club, Q dimaond K diamonds and all the clubs. now A and another spade. actually this doesnt really work since if he doesnt have the 10 spade, he can drop the K on the A, but on the other side it will work if east has the honor doublton and the K of hearts.

Simple bidding question
WGF_Flame replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I have 2 important things in my hands 1. diamond suit 2. support for all suits If i had to show this hand in one bid, i would choose double, but sicne I worth 2 bids, i will start with 1 dimaond and if possible will double later. Notice that you cant do the opposite, doubling and later bidding diamond will show a strong diamond one suiter. (unless you play something else) -
imo partner is likely to have club lengh not shortage for his bid
-
the bidding in this situation are: 5 something - i got much better shape then I showed. ex 7-4 double - I have same or less shape than I showed before, and I got extra strengh pass - I dont have much to add. bidding 5 - when i already showed more shape then I got is very strange to me. double - make sense if I believe parters 4C to be a strong hand. pass - probebly what I would choose unless I really trust partner to be strong.
-
what is 2 hearts?
-
hard to say who did most, and i think its not important. Both east and west (and also south) should have bid one more time then they did. btw, 3nt makes but you are more likely to go down in 4 hearts with these hands.

Help with a play problem
WGF_Flame replied to phoenix214's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think you are not likely to go down even if you play Q♦ at trick 1. If it holds you can play heart to the Q. -
I would like to see numbers on this, anyway obviously there are hands who wish to play in 4M opposite 5 card major and not opposite 4 card major. and the responder can use puppet for those. In general i think the reasson for the popularity is not that its an amazing system. its because its very simple and definetly not bad.

I think i finnaly understand the ressons for rezo to bid like that had has much more sympaty for the bid then before. They play italian cue bid style, never showing long suit for slams, in this style he assume that his 4♣ bid show control in club, but more importantly deny a control in ♠. Over this 4♣ partner must sign off in 4♥ without heart control. therefore the pass of the double shows a ♠ control. K would be great for south, single is less good, but not totally bad, and I think K is more likely on this auction by all players. The other factors are that the opps bid and double club, partner therefore likely to not have wasted value there. and the last factor is that partner with control in ♠ and ♦ would definetly bid 4♦, so strangly 4♣ pass tell him that partner doesnt have a control in diamond either so no wasted K of diamond. now versus a hand with K of spade, no control in diamond, no waste in club, the chances of slam to be atleast on finnese are great. This might be a little to much assuming, but still.

sry dont know how to control the size, but manage to add a link

rhm, thanks for the vote and answer, but since you dont know the players (the south player is a true expert), you better avoid the last coments.

South claim that north pass over 4♣ double should show stronger hand than he had. North claim that his hand is not the worse hand (he doesnt have waste in club) and he is not showing more than this (he could cue bid if he had a very good hand). http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?lin=pn|Rezo1325,kont%203,shlomi,tweetytazm|st||md|1S789QAH678TJAD6CA%2CS6TKH23D489TC45JQ%2CS235H5QKD57JQC278%2C|rh||ah|Board%2011|sv|o|mb|1H|mb|p|mb|2H|mb|3C|mb|4C|mb|d|mb|p|mb|p|mb|6H|mb|d|mb|p|mb|p|mb|p|pc|CQ|pc|C2|pc|C6|pc|CA|pc|HA|pc|H3|pc|H5|pc|H4|pc|D6|pc|D4|pc|DQ|pc|DK|pc|CK|pc|H7|pc|C4|pc|C7|pc|H6|pc|H2|pc|HQ|pc|H9|pc|S2|pc|S4|pc|SQ|pc|SK|pc|CJ|pc|C8|pc|C3|pc|H8|pc|SA|pc|S6|pc|S3|pc|SJ|pc|S7|pc|ST|pc|S5|pc|D3|pc|DT|mc|10| link to the hand My link

I can add a poll, but funny i feel that its correct to have 1 post per book (and it will gain majority of the votes) but for some strange reason it doesn't work. Maybe people are just too shy to post a new topic while replying seems easier.

on a diamond lead finesse to the Q spade, ruff 2 spades draw trumps, and throw the last 2 spades on the AK hearts.

I read it few times, and I'm sure I am not the only one.
