  1. Does that mean you think 4H doubled is the right spot????? Just answer the question first and then make your brilliant observations.

  4. But if partner is bidding 2S with a doubleton then he doesn't have a diamond stopper. That is the whole point of this discussion which you don't seem to grasp.
  5. I don't remember who started the argument about 'promises' and 'implies' but I'm sure I could find someone from New Jersey who would take care of the problem for a reasonable fee. The reason why it is important is because it affects opener's rebid. My partner rebid 3C because of the lack of a diamond stop and we got to 6C. I could see pitching my spade loser on a heart if we had solid clubs. If we had an agreement that 2S promised support then 2NT is ok.
  6. That is EXACTLY what I meant, thank you Vampyr.
  7. If you're going to disagree you should at least say what you think it should mean. I've always thought it was a counter game try. OK, I just saw your answer, I should have looked before I responded. I still don't know how "having some values" is going to help if pd doesn't know where they are other than not in diamonds.

    Like Hatchett said.
  9. ??????????????? By implies, I perhaps meant implies which is not in any way similar to promises, especially since the previous choice was promises.
  10. double????? obvious????? Can I play against you for a living?????
  11. [hv=pc=n&w=sat7h2dak7ckj9632&e=skj543hkqj4dq3ca7]266|100[/hv] North deals. Please give your auction with comments. No opposition bidding. Ours started: 1♠ 2♣ 2♥ 2♠ Also please say if the 2♠ bid 1) promises 3+ spades 2) implies 3+ spades 3) neither.
  12. But your partner doesn't have an intelligent partner :) But seriously you can't expect pd to bid your hand for you. All you need is 9xx xxxx xxxx Ax. This is just automatic.
  13. Do you mean logged into BBO or into FD or both? If BBO then windows ver or browser? I have tried every combination I can think of but am still not able to download a system.
  14. I dont see a 'bfedit' icon (or any other icon) to the right of date
  15. I don't open 8 point hands (so far).
  16. I understand what you are saying but it is a bit naive. Trade the ♠A for a small ♠ and you might bid it the same way. How about trading a ♠ honor (or a small ♠) for a small ♥? I personally would never expect my pd to be this big for a balancing double after an overcall.
  17. Interesting, 3♣ is both an underbid and misdescription of shape. 4♣should be a big 2 suiter, 3♥ is right on values but I'm afraid it implies some ♠ support (maybe it shouldn't but my partners always keep bidding spades thinking all of my subsequent bids are cue bids). That only leaves 3NT.
  18. I was serious, I have found that in a situation where you have no idea what will work out best it's usually right to go with the field at match points and try to pick up points in the play or defense.
  19. I brought this up because at our table my pd bd 3♦. Now responder bid 3♥ and I wasn't sure if pd had 4 spades. The auction continued P P Dbl P ? My hand was [hv=pc=n&e=st842hk984d654c32]133|100[/hv] I'm not sure of the spots except hearts because the site is having problems. I chose to pass, we beat it one for nothing.
  20. I voted for 'it depends' just because of these hands, anyone who responds 2♦ with either of these (or similar) hands belongs in the beginner group.
  21. Pass, I am more comfortable in the frying pan.
  22. I play that after 1♠ 2♣: 2♠=normal raise 3♣=limit raise + 3♥(jump to 3 level in suit below our suit)=mixed raise (this bid is sometimes not available) Splinters are on
