  1. If lho has only 3 clubs it's a simple endplay.
  2. 1) Pass I lost a team game once when pd opened 2D on this very hand, I was 4414 with 19 hcp and bid 3NT 2) 1NT 2 unstopped suits, off shape, 7 trick hand. But if you do open 1NT you are required to bid 3C over 2D.
  3. double, if I bid 3H we may lose the spade suit if lho raises clubs.
  4. Does GB 2NT affect the meaning or does 4♣ now just show a very good 2 suiter?
  5. You must be very lucky indeed, always doubling for a 1 trick set. Is partner supposed to pull this if he can't beat it in his own hand?
  6. 3♣ is plenty, even 3♠ may have no play. Of course you have to be playing with someone who can evaluate his/her hand.
  7. [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1d1hd2h4c]133|100[/hv] What is the 4♣ call?
  8. Win the club, red card to hand, lead a club. If W follows (or pitches) then red card to hand and pitch club on DK. By now you should have an idea of what order to cross ruff. If W ruffs the second club then I will reevaluate.
  9. Well, that sounds exactly like what I said but with a more detailed explanation, well done Mike.
  10. I agree with everything except I don't understand how this violates the "metarule", they have bid 2 suits and therefore 3♠ shows a stop.
  11. Sounds like a preemptive type hand with spades if non-vul. Since a direct 2S shows some cards and 3S is strong he can't bid origanally but now decides that you may have a reasonable save or be able to push. If vul I have no idea and am not going to try to figure it out.
  12. ♠A, I just hope it doesn't give up a trump trick. I have to admit that at the table I would probably lead the ♣K without even thinking about it but after thinking I will try to 1) get off a future endplay and 2) possibly stop a ruff. Of course the dummy might show with ♦AQJx(x) in which case I may regret my choice.
  13. Silly? Surely pd has played a 4-3 at some point in his life. If not, then it's time he tried it.
  14. Why does anyone have to draw any inferences other than the opps have a club fit? East should just show his hand by bidding 3D and let West place the contract.
  15. 1♠ - 2♦ 2♠ - 3♥ 3NT - P Not elegant and both hands are better than min but the spade misfit and lack of intermediates make both partners slow down. I would like to find a sequence, that is not contrived, to get to 6D or 6H but I can't.
  16. I agree completely except for the following points: 1. minimum 2/1 2. misfit 3. BAD HAND
  17. I find it really hard to believe that anyone as South would give partner a chance to pass below game. I am absolutely sure that Mike would not at the table, only in a forum where he can see both hands.
  18. North gave his partner a choice between play 3S and 6S. This must be in the novice game. North must have solid clubs so we have to set up a trick on opening lead and hope partner has a trump entry. Partner needs less in hearts than in diamonds so I lead a small heart. Yeah, I know, that's the only lead that lets him make it.
  19. Once North opens the bidding you can't stop short of game. I usually open these but I'd be willing to bet that if I looked back at my results I would see that it is a loser. If one of the suits were spades then it would be an obvious opener. On this one, if you can keep from being doubled you may be ok.
  20. Interesting problem, only 15 hcp and a void in partner's first bid suit. I would still reverse with 2D because I have an 8 trick hand. I will bid 3C next if allowed. No guarantees.
  21. I also hate 3NT, 100% to South. What I don't understand about the other posts is the implication that 3C would show a club suit. Isn't that just 4SF? How else do you get to 3NT if South doesn't have a club stopper?: ♠xx ♥Axx ♦AKxxxx ♣Qx 2NT seems to be the right call with South's hand. I've been out of the game for awhile and maybe things have changed.
  22. Do you mean that North should double 1H and hear it go 4S by partner? North certainly has a problem over 1H but I don't think double is the answer. 3NT is a possibility but I like the 2D bid fine.
  23. I think it does show a full value positive although we haven't discussed it. Pass would be waiting, dbl would be a double neg. But unfortunately we haven't discussed the jump rebid either.....
