  1. I just checked to make sure I didn't order the wrong replacement cards. Go to http://shop6.mailordercentral.com/baronbar...s/products/265/ and look at items #6504 and 6506. They stop cards are short. These replacement cards are for the standard bidding box that you showed and that we own. I noticed that if you want to buy the taller stop cards you have to buy them separately. Very sorry but I don't how to do the underlined url thing. But I am willing to learn.
  2. Trashing the ACBL gets boring after a while, but excuse my need to defend it, I am a candidate for the BOD. The bidding box replacements that I purchased for our club, that have the short stop cards, are for the standard boxes that are used at every tournament that I have attended. I am sure that they didn't make short stop cards just for us. The idea about pulling them out and having them ready under the bid box is good and I will suggest it.
  3. What other game has so many actual players who do not know the rules? It seems like in golf, tennis, baseball, football, etc. those playing actually make an effort to know the rules before they start the game. It's included in how to play the game, which is how I have always thought of the bridge laws, part of how to play the game. The directors are there to enforce or adjudicate the laws, but the players should know them, or many of them.
  4. It would be nice to know what this thread was originally about. Who really cares if it is in the right slot. I think the stop card is nothing but a nuisance. There were rules for the spoken "stop" or "wait", and in the newer replacement bid box cards the stop card is smaller than the rest so it slows the game down while players search for it, making them play out of tempo!
  5. Is this ACBL? Why should the 2C be alerted in the first place? I think it is not alertable. So the infraction is the change of bid without the director being called. That would not happen in my club, so I will leave it to others.
  6. Yes, I have had it happen, that is why I once made a post asking if the GIB's "learned" how to bid a hand during a tournament, and if that was why some players waited and played the hands late. The answer was "no".
  7. I think a friend of mine is stuck in Italy due to the closed airports. I wonder how long that cloud will stick around and how long that erruption will last. I also worry about the people and animals of Iceland.
  8. What I really hate is "WTP". It is amazing how many answers there are, and with good explanations. I would double and then be thrilled when partner bids spades. Or I will either bid clubs or nt depending.......
  9. Wonderful! I was just there Sunday, and every chance I get.
  10. And even if it was ACBL it is not Butch Campbell, thank goodness, it is Jeff Johnston.
  11. This might be a fun project when looking for movies: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/movies/1000best.html
  12. Maybe west didn't realize which board it was that he heard something about until the bidding started. People hear things all the time but they don't know which board it is. I think it was honorable that he said anything at all, most wouldn't, and who would know the difference. And if it was a team match why were the tables so close to begin with? I would give a warning to the other table about talking too loudly.
  13. We have a linksys and have not yet been able to "link" it to my iPad. <_< Other than that it works fine once you go through the unuser friendly setup.
  14. " Polish President Lech Kaczynski and some of the country's highest military and civilian leaders died on Saturday when the presidential plane crashed as it came in for a landing in thick fog in western Russia, killing 97, officials said" To those from Poland my deepest sympathy.
  15. Please explain how it is possible to earn points within 2-3 minutes of each other. When looking at points lists it seems strange that some are winning points every few minutes. Can you really play in multiple tournaments at the same time?
  16. This reminds me, I haven't checked Facebook yet today.......
  17. Online bridge is a different game from ftf bridge. Once you accept that, things like rejected claims cease being irritating, and are just part of the game. Play it out, next hand please.
  18. Did anyone watch "The Hills Have Thighs" on HBO recently? HBO accidentally? screened a soft porn movie of the same name instead of the film it had contracted to play, which was about Appalachia. There are lawsuits. Sorry for off-topic
  19. Barack Obama is my president, a person and office I have great respect for. McCain would have been my president if he had won, a person I also would have had respect for. (I still do).
  20. Okay, I have posted a sheet on the back of the the panel they are using at the partnership desk. It faces the playing area. I am still not sure where the meeting is so I just put Tuesday afternoon.......
  21. There is a message board next to the partnership desk in the Summit Pavilion but I haven't put up a paper, sorry I am just swamped. I will try to do it in a few minutes.
  22. Go for it, peachy, I am too involved with tournament committee stuff but I will be there
  23. That's a great idea because it is right next to the Starbucks and deli concessions. Maybe Tuesday between the afternoon and evening sessions?
  24. I am there, we stuffed 5000 tote bags yesterday. I will find the message board today, and post a signin sheet. Maybe someone can decide on a time and place in the hotel.
