  1. Where is the list of things that are out of bounds - what changes, when? :P
  2. I helped a little, I love my new Prius.
  3. There are lots of venues for playing bridge online and I think that someone who has trouble with the mouse/touchpad should maybe stick to open tables where nothing is at stake and they can set their own parameters. I had a longtime partner, now deceased, on Okbridge who was very arthritic and slow. We knew better than to enter tournaments, which would only be frustrating for him in terms of time allowed and undo's. But, we enjoyed several years of fun bridge at our own open table allowing undo's and slow play - we always had a full table. Of course this has nothing to do with the opening post, where it sounds to me like the director probably didn't even consider the situation, just granted the undo.
  4. Are there any good directors? Or do I just hear about the bad ones. So far I have just played with robots.
  5. GIB frequently bids a four card suit after a 2D response in Stayman, and describes it as a five card suit. It can be very frustrating. I have been learning to go by what I see GIB do as a pattern, and ignore the explanations, which are often silly and must refer to some other hand.
  6. I got the impression from the OP that it was not the Director who asked, that he was called after the insufficient bidder said he didn't see the opening bid. Not that it really matters who asked (players should be trained to just call the director) but west now has significant UI even if east makes the bid sufficient - it was an opening bid, not an overcall. How do the expert directors deal with this?
  7. Maybe they were playing with three hands from one board and one hand from another board - which actually happened in my club, and no one noticed. Keywords here are CLUB GAME. I did notice when I came to the table to hurry them along and they were on their 10th trick.
  8. Just bought a Prius, think I will drive from now on. Unless, of course, I cross an ocean.
  9. Saw "The Young Victoria" starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend last night. Beautiful movie, beautiful costumes (won an Oscar for that). Now waiting from Netflix on the shelf are It's Complicated and Everyone's Fine. A couple of movies I chose and quietly moved up in the queue. :(
  10. Both Bridgepad and Bridgemate now have Swiss Team scoring so I imagine interest will grow. Our District voted in February to purchase machines for our Regionals and make them available to Sectionals for a small fee. As to the posting of game results on the ACBL website, this is a wonderful addition to ACBL services. I know, many clubs have their own websites, but when you post at ACBL these results are available to everyone, it is very easy to post the games, and easy to access for the players. However, as has been mentioned not everyone is computer savvy, and several clubs around me just have not been able to read the instructions for posting games, nor understand the extra instructions I sent, so I am going to set up a special sessions for the managers of four clubs in two weeks and get their clubs set up. (sigh)
  11. I am stewing over whether to afford $150 per table for my 7 table game for scoring machines, and now we are talking about $3,000+ per table to get rid of holding cards. Too funny.
  12. I was wondering why someone with over 18,000 master points was being talked about as almost an intermediate player, and being on a "weak " team. I have no idea what did or did not go on at that table but those players deserve some respect.
  13. My four year old granddaughter would just love being put on hold. LOL
  14. Last night at a social function (here in California) a lady at our table asked my husband if he agreed that Obama is single handedly destroying democracy in America, and isn't that especially awful since he wasn't even born in America. (BTW she is Mormon). Ron told her she has been listening to too much talk radio or her church leader. Then I was happy to tell her about the gay marriage ruling. It was well publicized in our town of 65,000, which has four Mormon churches, that the members were required to do extra tithing to help fund that measure. In fact I have changed Optometrists because it was listed in the newspaper that he donated $5,000. Also, I think that social functions are not the place for political or religious discussions - but she came on to us like it was a prepared attack, maybe something the church is pushing. Maybe I am getting paranoid.
  15. jeez, how many people are we going to have to hire in California to go measure those 5x5' areas. You just know there will be entire backyards filled with the stuff, just like there are "vacant" houses being used right now for pot farms. I am not against legalizing, per se, but it will just unleash different ways for people to break the law.

Things happen. Maybe she pulled the pass card instead of the 2D card and doesn't know she can change it. It happened to me today - I opened 2NT, partner bid 3C and I bid 3D, only when I looked down at the table there was a pass card, and LHO had passed. I was distracted because I was directing, it was the last round, last hand, etc. Anyway partner played 3C and it turned out okay, we can't make 3nt. That's why I had sympathy, not for "them", but for opener.

    Ruling?

Shouldn't west call the director when the failure to alert occurs, not after his partner bids. He only calls after he knows his partner might be getting in trouble, before that it's okay if the opps forget what they are playing. I know bluejak thinks I side with the offending side too often, but really only when I see this kind of thing - someone trying to get a win-win instead of doing what he should do immediately.
  19. Just thought of something, it seems that someone should be able to write an app (maybe ACBL) that would have those searchable documents. Then you could download it to whatever device you have.
  20. Take your jacket to the tailor and have them make an interior pocket for the iPad. I saw this on TV with some journalists. But, the iPad is fairly heavy, especially if you get a cover so you won't drop it - that thing is SLIPPERY. However the new Kindle might work, and it's only $139, and the search features are pretty good, plus you can have lots of bookmarks once you get the hang of it. Not sure if you can do all that in pdfs thought, haven't tried it. I like both devices. Let us know what you do!

My saintly self says it's just a club game and I should bid 3D and let opener back in the game, but then I would have to answer to my partner, so I will pass.
  22. Maybe you would get it right with tomato.
  23. Congratulations Fred and team. I watched quite a bit of it, but wasn't there for the end. Can someone post that swing hand?
  24. I still want to talk about baseball, but kittens is good too.
