will you open this?

Sounds like a lot of pysching to me. :P -
I guess there is a big difference between the small non-profit clubs and the commercial clubs. A small club is lucky to get volunteer directors, hopefully trained ones, and then to subject them, and the club management to the added threat, at the table, of appeals is a lot, IMHO. I think it is much better to make sure there is a support system in place for those directors, and to make sure they use it. We use the book when we have a call, we review the Laws frequently, we go over calls we had after the game, we write to ACBL if we have questions. Even our resident TD who is off at a Regional right now doesn't always have the answers, and that is why we are always ready to second think a ruling made at the table. But a committee? No. For large clubs or commerical clubs my opinion would lean toward committees.
-
We do not have an appeals committee in our club, but I have been known to change a ruling after consulting with our resident TD if he is there, or even after taking a closer look at the book. I would hate to damage a pair with a bad ruling, but I am a playing director, so that sometimes becomes a problem. No one has ever asked that a committee be formed.

I agree with the OP that his method is the way I bid with virtually all of my partners - except the robots because they use the 4-way transfers. I don't know how to reach the spade contract when playing that stayman doesn't promise a 4 card major. I have learned to click on most of the robot's bids because they frequently surprise me, and even then they don't always put that hand down on the table.

What is this convention?

I asked the question so I could give a complete answer. I don't plan on being condescending in my reply to them. -
What is this convention?

Thanks, do you think this is a bid that would require a written defense to be provided? -
I have been asked by the owner of a non-sanctioned online bridge club for an opinion on a bid made in their club. The opening bid was 2C and was alerted as 2C = weak BOTH majors, OR any GF hand. This question is whether this is a "legal" bid in any santioning body, and at what level. The hand in question was 97432 A1063 Q94 2 MP vul unknown I need help, the convention charts are very confusing. Thanks, Jo Anne

Where I live the city and county council meetings always have security present, like a sheriff's deputy. And I don't know what the time frame for this incident was but where were the police? I know a security person eventually shot at him but where was he while all this was happening? Just seems he had a lot of time.

Uday answered my question, I was just verifying for him that I had entered an Express lobby. Thanks
-
I doubt if he is talking about renting, those things happen to me in Robot tournies to me, FREQUENTLY.
-
Before the ACBL game I clicked on an express game, but did not register. I then registered for the ACBL game. Thanks

I signed up to play an ACBL Robot game tonight and got a message I have never seen before. It said we would be playing SAYC - I thought GIB played 2/1, and it said the bids and plays would be limited to 60 seconds or I would be replaced. When did this start? I finished the game in about 30 minutes and a few players were just starting board 6. So, does that rule apply to everyone or what? And is it even legal in ACBL? Thanks, Jo Anne

Actually there is a surprisingly high percentage of gift card value that is never redeemed, and so the store, restaurant, vendor, just pockets the money. For instance several years ago we purchased a Napa wine train gift card for our son and new wife. They could choose the trip whenever they liked. They never did, just too busy. And, they love wine! We thought it was the perfect gift. Not only that but while the gift cards are sitting in everyone's pockets the money is sitting in the store's bank accounts, and the merchandise is still in their inventory. This seems to me to be very much too good for the store. I love the idea of donations and will bring it up at our family gathering this afternoon. My sister is having everyone over for tea.

There is a fairly long one that starts with an "a" that I see at the beginning of some posts. I don't know what it is and when I see it I think, wtf. <_<

I think south alerted the 3H bid forgetting that he was responder, not opener. Then, suddenly waking up, he passed 3nt. This kind of thing is not uncommon with new players and if the director is called at all it should be to give the reminder about correcting the MI before the opening lead.
-
I would like to suggest another scenario, one in which the cards were misdealt, there was a claim, and no one noticed the misdeal, in which case there can be no reconstruction. Of course there is clearly a failure to count infraction but I have seen this happen, and it is far less sinister than some other possibilities.

A normal ftf length game of 24-28 boards dilutes the skewed boards caused by revokes and wild scores. It is the 12-16 board online pair games that are so ridiculous, yet people don't want to commit the time to longer sets. Did I read somewhere that some online directors throw out outlandishly high or low scores because they are deemed unfair? That I do not agree with.

Several of my partners and I play DONT over strong NT's and CAPP over weak NT's, so it is important right off that we know what the bid range is. So even if as 2nd bidder I don't have any of those possible bids is it more proper for me to ask the range or wait for partner to do it. Either way, without the alert, we are giving possible UI, but 4th seat may or may not have a bid depending on the range. I suppose the best thing is to know the range before the bidding starts but that is putting the responsibility on us, not the opening bidder and responder.

What would the protection have been if the question had not been asked?

Go to the ACBL website and Find A Club, click on the state and arrow down to San Francisco, you will find the list of clubs. Here is the way to Find A Club: http://www.acbl.org/play/findClub.html or just go to www.acbl.org

If you will notice in my post I am at a table for an out of turn lead, so I already know that. I certainly know to ask why I am called.
-
It has never occurred to me when responding to a table for a lead out of turn ruling to ask "who called me". My first question has always been "did anyone tell you that it was your lead?" I would consider it an unfriendly atmosphere to be playing in a game where players were concerned about things like who called.

Seems like a monthly request, so lots must want it.
