  1. Gee, there must be some reason ACBL doesn't allow people to just get up and walk out of games because they aren't doing well. It bothers me because I think these are the same people who probably leave other tournaments where you see those constant call for subs in the lobby. It's just not right. If you sign up for something you should stick it out, but I am old fashioned. It is an ACBL rule but evidently ACBL Robot tournies don't matter. Except that they are on the fence with their sanctioning...... Also it only takes about 30 minutes to play those hands and then because people are missing there are no results for the full 55 minutes. By that time I am off doing something else as I don't live at BBO. I believe I am allowed to have this opinion and express it.
  2. Seems like there should be a limit on how many times you can quit an ACBL Robot Tournament. I have been playing these since October and at first there would be one person leaving early but now it is usually two or three. I don't think it is right for them to play a few hands and then leave when they are losing. Besides I have started out badly and ended up winning!!
  3. One of my problems was, when I first started reading, was that I didn't know who anyone was. It's almost a secret society with the screen names. I know who a lot of people are now and it's makes reading the threads about bidding much more rewarding. It's hard to accept at face value a WTP from a complete stranger.
  4. No, bring animal crackers. Children everywhere you look, a babyboom in SF.
  5. Why, when I go to select Autoplay Singletons is it grayed out and I can't select it? Nevermind, I got it. :)
  6. What are the chances of being able to log into bbo and play on Apple's new tablet (iSlate) which "might" be introduced in March? The screen will certainly be large enough and there will be a solid internet connection. I think this will be a big selling product.
  7. This thread is exactly why I don't like to play against married couples who aren't very good players, but they seem to win a lot. <_<
  8. As a parent whose children and grandchildren fly frequently I am all for whatever security they want to put in place. If I sat here and said the measures are too much or not worth the money, etc imagine how I would feel if one of them ended up on a plane with a terrorist. Think about it.
  9. I think it's much better, legal, ethical, to play in tempo and let your partner who is not as fine a player as you either play it right or make a mistake. We certainly learn from our errors.
  10. One thing I have noticed playing with the robots - they will never figure out that you might have been bidding out of system, that you might have made a mistake and are trying to correct it, or that you are just trying to place a contract. In the GIB system notes it says that they do not open 1NT with a five-card major, and they certainly don't make any allowance for you to do so either. I have been burned several times. I don't know what the GIB was trying to do this time, but you can always click on the bid and it will tell you what it thinks it is doing. That might not be right either. :)
  11. The "lawless ex-colonies"? haha, that made my day. Sorry, was just reading through the posts. :) I think that war is over.
  12. Thanks very much for the help, I found it. :D Also found BBO Tools and that I could look up old tournament results. Had no idea that was there.
  13. When it says someone is at a Partnership Bidding Table, where are they, in the Main Bridge Club? And what is different about those tables? Thanks, Jo Anne
  14. 1. I like to see the results of the whole tournament, and my points as soon as possible after I finish playing. These results are visible only for a short time on the tournament list, and if you back out of the tournament to go play in another one that screen is gone too. But most of the time I play in a tournament and then am off to some other activity. I don't live on BBO. 2. The hands are available when a tournament is over. Again, not all of us live on BBO and want to wait. 3. Sometimes I wonder about the security issue. Do people have multiple accounts? I have even wondered about this playing in the ACBL Robot tournaments, probably unfounded, but seems strange that some players are playing their hands "quickly" in the last part of the tournament. Maybe they just forgot they registered like I did the other night.
  15. I wouldn't consider it a personal attack. I would be surprised it if wasn't true, at least about me. I recognize that most of my posts aren't welcomed but I refused to be deterred and leave this forum to the clique that friends who don't use it say it is.
  16. "Why don't some of you who think the committee is so secretive and unresponsive go to a meeting and see what is discussed and how the committee functions?" Great idea, Jan. On a much smaller scale I have heard similar noises about the functioning of District Boards and Committees. And my response - come join us, you are always welcome. Simplistic I know, but going to the source usually works.
  17. While everyone is busy crucifying the work these volunteers do has anyone bothered talking to one of them about the committee and it actions, minutes, etc? It seems there are enough contributors here that are so well versed in the workings of the ACBL that you must know some of the members?

    Surf's up

Fantastic picture and thanks for posting the webcam link. Watching the water, surfers and boaters is very peaceful and calming.
  19. You all act like "stage fright" is something that can be turned on or off. Even Barbara Striesand suffers so much from stage fright that she can't give large concerts. People who have these issues should be accommodated, not treated with disdain. I, by the way, am not one of them.
  20. Happy Thanksgiving! And for those not celebrating Thanksgiving, have a wonderful day. Today I am thankful for a healthy, loving family.
  21. Encouraging news, Fred. I'm glad your meeting went well. Jo Anne
  22. Thank you, Jan, for actually addressing my concern and showing how it is covered by the Laws. I understand it now.
