Can you say: Spingold ?
-
I'm assuming 3C! = good Diam raise. Could the RDBL be ASKING for a ♣-stop in this sequence ? Maybe Opener is considering 9 tricks to be more feasible than 11. With a ♣-stop himself, he might have just bid 3NT .
-
I would probably open 2♣ also, but if I did open 1♠ ( as Gonzalo, post # 2 ), then I have Bergen raises ( which apparently are out of favor on these forums ) , and the question of Responder's ♥ length is clarified -- although the whereabouts of the ♥Q is still unknown: 1S - 3C! ( lower Bergen ) 3H ( ostensibly a help-suit game-try) - 4H ( 4 cards ) 4NT ( 6 Ace-RKC ) - 5D ( 1/4 ) 6S

Editing.

You can think up a few hands for responder and discuss them with your number one upvoter. Be sure to discuss the difference between a forcing and a semiforcing 1NT in depth, as she cares about that very much. Just remember that you should agree everything with your partner. aguahombre: " On the contrary, I was content to just see the replies based on the posters' experience with what works and what doesn't over the long run." Geesh...for crying out loud .

place the contract

Impossible. Partner has shown ♥-shortage w/extras ( ~ 15+ ) . -
1C - 1S 2C - ?? .......2D! = cheapest new suit forcing ( may be artificial ) .......2H = weak 5s/4 or 5h ( EDIT: a stronger 5/4+ hand would go thru 2D! first ) after: 2H 2S - all pass
-
Slight correction/addition : Partner ALWAYS bids 2♠ when holding 3-3 or 3 Sp and 2 hts. Because Garbage Stayman is also played by Responder holding a weak 5s/4h. With a weak 4s/5h, Responder just transfers to Hts and forgets about Sp.
-
Most have agreed to Opener's GF SJS of 3♥ . Now we are ready to see Responder's hand to see what his rebid should be .
-
Same as Justin .... 2S! ( Un-Un ) = limit+ raise for Diam
-
Thx, Zel. I was unaware of the " all 3 outside Kings" reply : Diam are trump: 5H! ( specific K-ask ) - 6H! = all 3 outside K's
-
I hope OP posts partner's hand !

Agree

BridgeBum.com says: "Support DBLS ON through ALL competition up to and including 2H " . The example they give is : 1C - ( 1D ) - 1H - ( 2D ) 2H = 4 cards So, here 2S would be 4 cards ( and DBL would be 3 cards ) .
-
pass I'm worried he has everything else ( and a long, nearly solid ♦suit ) EXCEPT for a ♠-stop ( ... like missing the ♠Ace )
-
Bailey cuebids... works similarly as Michaels but always gets the ♠ suit into the action: (1x) - 2NT shows the two lowest unbid suits always ( the typical Un2NT ) (1m) - 2m shows spades and one of the two suits shown by 2NT (1H) - 2H ditto, ( exactly the same as Micheals ) (1S) - 2S shows hearts and one of the two suits shown by 2NT, ( exactly the same as Michaels ) So, for this hand: ( 1D ) - 2D! = ♠ and either ♣ or ♥
-
Practically all of you got it right -- you "did the math" before playing at trick 1 -- that's why you are experts . No matter what the Club break you always have 12 tricks. Play the ♠A at trick one... play A K of ♣.... -- If they split , claim 13 tricks. -- If they don't, you must play a 2nd ♠ next , and then claim 12. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Quite a few "finessed" ( I guess because they didn't do the "simple" math ) at trick 1. And if North had bid 3NT ( instead of 3S ), then 13 tricks are cold... as Justin essentially said .

-
You betcha ! She has me up to only one behind Aquahombre !
-
You said : 1H - 2C/2H 2S Did you mean: 1H - 2C/2D 2S ??
-
I'm sorry, but a cuebid by OPENER is a general force and does NOT promise support for Responder's suit. [ EDIT: How often have you chided others for misrepresenting something as "standard" ? ]. First priority is asking for a "stop" for 3NT ( a la xx1943 ). [ It is not the same as a cuebid by Responder, which promises support for Opener's suit ] .

To Gerber or Not To Gerber

I know I'm going to be in big trouble, but South has a much better rebid -- a 3D!-jump SPLINTER for ♣ ( showing 4+cards ) : South North 1S - 2C! ( Edit: I took this as GF when OP said "bascic 2/1" ) 3D! ( Edit: Thus, 2D would be forcing so, 3D! = "jump-over-a-force" = splinter for last bid suit ) Now North may not be so anxious to rebid 3NT.... and start cue-bidding. And when a minor (m) suit is agreed at the 3-level, then 4m! is Minorwood ( RKC )... 4C! for this auction. But when the minor is first agreed at the 4-level, then Kickback ( 4m+1 ) is RKC..... that is if you play those conventions for the minors. -

Perfectamundo ! -
I was just showing another 4 card raise option. I'm always leery of the "source of tricks" option ( even though it is GF ) because I can never prove to partner later that I have 4 card support. Then there is the "interference" factor: 1S - ( p ) - 2C! - ( 3D ) p - ( 5D ) - ?? As noted, 4D! is my first choice.
-
OK... how about an Upper Bergen ( limit ) Raise w/4+cards ? 1S - 3D!
