  1. The mnemonic of Slow Shows, Direct Denies may also be easier :)
  2. We call this Systems on over X and 2C. Over X, everything is still on. Over 2C, X is Stayman, 2D is hearts, 2H is spades, etc. Over higher level interference, systems are off. Some people play "stolen bid doubles." The less said of them, the better.
  3. I don't know why people are so hostile to his suggestions. I don't like most of them myself, but they are interesting, and one idea in particular (no overtricks) has real appeal at IMPs. The play would go MUCH faster. It's not as if the game has never changed
  4. I like to play double as "I have 4 hearts" and any other heart bids to be normal limit bids with 5+ hearts
  5. fielding a psych means your partner has psyched, you have no real reason to believe (from the auction) that he has psyched, but you played him to have done so and you are right in this hand, you just played the role of the sucker, that's all :P everyone gets burned by this one once. it's a baby psych. general advice: when their side has preempted, ignore whatever 3rd seat's action is. this also means that you bid as if he had passed (e.g. if it goes 3D p 3H x, it's takeout of diamonds)
  6. Vulnerability matters a lot, and so does the entire rest of the hand. A 7222 hand is nothing like a 7420 hand, for example. Hands with really good suits (like KQJTxxx) and a singleton, I would always bid 3C non-vulnerable, and would probably do so r/r. Not sure about r/w.
  7. This is why we should spell it "ruff" no matter what :D
  8. Wow, I blame you guys for this. A LOT.
  9. No we had a civilized conversation, and now we've all agreed to spell it Febyuairy.
  10. I don't know anyone who pronounces it Febooary. edit: I immediately went and started asking people, and now I know at least one person who drops the first r.
  11. Standard opening style, 2/1 gf. I kind of expected a unanimous double, but I had followup questions. I also don't know how to play bridge.
  12. 2/1, normal style Axx Ax T8xx QJ76, 3rd seat, don't remember vul, no form of scoring Partner deals 1H (p) 1N (x) p (2D) ?
  13. a western cue is a cue of the opponent's suit.
  14. pass, not close don't feel like playing 2N with 16 opp 6-7 and i'll live with not playing 3N with 16 opp 8-9 as an aside, how do you show 18-19 in this system? edit: oh i guess you just bash 3N
  15. I usually make terse responses on the forums to hide my ignorance, but I'll try stepping out a bit here. North has a stiff, 3 aces, and knows they are in a 9 card spade fit. His Axxxx of hearts is really nice opposite a doubleton too imo. Definitely worth more than 2S. Over 2S, from south's point of view, north has some crappy 8-10 count with 3 spades. No way south can move. If north bids 3S, south knows Kx of hearts is golden and can just try and stab a game. Granted, the hands don't have to fit this well, but it must have play. North is closer to just stabbing 4S himself than bidding 2. Edit: oh I suck I thought double was 5S2H, misread the auction. See? I should've just kept it short.
  16. didn't realize 4C was gerber say partner answers two aces. you can count 10 tricks if clubs break...
