It says in condition of contest all players will not be playing the same hands (security reasons) Will people in the same section be playing the same hands?
-
Natural overcalls this weak are allowed as they are not a convention but natural. You would have to pre-alert your opponents that your overcalls can be very weak.
-
"weak two-bids which by partnership agreement are not within a range of 7 HCP and do not show at least five cards in the suit" So this would [edit] not [edit] be allowed as long as your promising a 5+ card suit. Note 4-11 or 5-12 would not, Technically it's not the weak 2 that is not allowed you can actually use a wide range weak 2 but then your not allowed any conventional responses or rebids. So no Ogust, feature, Keycard etc. The actual rules can be found at GCC. There are other rules for other events Mid-char and Super-chart.
-
Unless the diamond suit is weak it is better show the diamonds. Partner should be taking false preference on most hands with 2♥ and 3♦ so nothing is lost if playing 5-card majors.

Your responses to partner's 2 Clubs opening bid?
steve2005 replied to cartruck's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
Don't say what to do with 1 King, presume 2D. Many consider Flannery one of the worst conventions (myself included lol) -
Do you play or pass?
steve2005 replied to ahydra's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Is not a clear pass. You may have big heart fit, possibly even game. This may make or hearts scoring better. -
Just play bridge robot bizarre preference
steve2005 replied to wbartley's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I believe most people playing 2/1 use 4♠ to show the 3-card limit raise and 3[spades ]is preference. Because Gib plays constructive raises preference could include 3-card support. Is possible Gib has switched meanings because it uses constructive raises. -
According to Gibs reckoning partnerships has 33 pts so why didn't Gib bid slam?
-
If there was a club fit hopefully Gib would have cue bid 2D or pulled 3N to clubs. any slam is hopeless unless spades are solid. 4N natural? even is probably not enough entries to take much tricks in spades think you have no choice but to trust Gib and pass
-
good system for Gib 3S is forcing, 2S is only constructive so NF. I know slam is really low odds but you have a monster and your partner is GF opposite an overcall. Opposite a human east I would suspect a psyche or they are using very light methods.
-
With human I would double. Gib handles these auctions horribly so stumped.

Best card to play?
steve2005 replied to pstansbu's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Say partner lead 5 from A65, returning the Q will block the suit. I think many people would show attitude on opening lead say the 9 (or 3 if udca). When you return the suit you lead a low card so partner should be assuming an honour. Also, if playing Smith echo you could show they like diamonds on opening lead and opening leader can show good diamonds on the play of the clubs. Then you both will be on same page that diamonds is the suit to beat NT. smith echo link Showing count you have shown 3 or 5 diamonds which doesn't help as North could have 4D -
google it. there is probably a general system for disabled people to use their entire computer that way.

Wrong adjustment by TD and then banned me on questioning
steve2005 replied to MrsSingh's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Yes 5H is probably down 1. you haven't given what cardsplay though. I possible you didn't cash in time then they will make. What cards have been played. If wrong director can adjust and will, but didn't say what tournament it was, some better than others -
yes 7 hard, 6 is routine
-
Embarrassing.North has a 2 loser hand, points are meaningless on this hand to make a NF 3N bid means N doesn't understand bridge. If south had passed (with weaker hand) instead of opening there is still some chance for 7red. Surely after a 3♣ bid which shows some extras, some sort of slam try is in order.

unusual NT to show unspecified major
steve2005 replied to zzxjoanw's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Not knowing which major overcaller has will often be fatal. Not knowing which minor overcaller has isn't as critical but can also create problems. As spotlight7 points out there are lots of methods which show exact 2-suiters, Ghestem being the most obvious. These methods while showing which 2suits while solving that problem have other problems that you can find in any discussion of this type of bid. Ghestem is said to have forgotten his own 3♣ convention. -
So, if your partner had 16+ points and good diamonds your gonna look pretty silly! I had auction 1N-2♦-2♥-3♦ all pass. Cold for 6♥ I was not pleased with partner thinking I had forgotten that we played transfers for 20 years.

Do you open the bidding playing 2/1?
steve2005 replied to Kaitlyn S's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think in today's world your opening 1♠ whatever system your playing. It is just too big an advantage to open the bidding first. Opponents bidding (even beginners) when they open is too much better than when they have to overcall. Yes 2♥ is an awkward response from partner but if the opponent's have hearts I'd rather they overcall 2♥ than let them open 1♥. -
Do you open the bidding playing 2/1?
steve2005 replied to Kaitlyn S's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Some versions of 2/1 you can rebid 2♠ with 5+ cards and a minimum. -
Don't read the 4th question before answering 1st 3
steve2005 replied to sakuragi's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
On this hand 5 or 6♣ could be making, 5 or 6 of a major could be making. Possibly nobody at the table knows. Using 5♣XX as penalty makes no sense here as it is unlikely if opponents pull you can defeat them more than you get for 5♣X. So really at this level of play XX is just poker upping the ante, as I doubt the partnership has an agreement on this sort of sequence. -
Surprised that's legal, but of what benefit would knowing the parity of spot cards or choosing your opening based on this be?
-
and when you find yourself in 7♣ on a 4-3 fit what then?
-
Yes, that would be the normal use for 2N. If playing Mexican 2♦-18-19 balanced or have somehow otherwise covered these hands you can use for 1♣ or 1♦, 1M-2N even playing standard.

Responding to multi with both M
steve2005 replied to VixTD's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Yes partner has to be strong. To play 2♦ as possibly being an intermediate 2M in my opinion is pretty close to unplayable. A natural 2M could be played as intermediate.
