Brutal interference
MinorKid replied to pescetom's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I voted Pass as i felt we cant force to the five level. If opener has extras and bids on i felt we have a safe sound good slam. It turned out to be wrong. -
I reckon Brian Senior wrote that you splinter vs an opening bid with 12-14, occationally 18+, but you don't with 15-17. Heck! in such hand and auction i gonna do whatever i would regradless.

I recalled once i have 18hcp 2-3-4-4 and it went uncontestly 1d-1s-2nt-4d, i presumed p was looking for some sort of slam, but turn out we went down one in 5d. All she wanted was to play in 4d (smth like Qxxx xx QJxxxx x). I did ask responder why not to rebid 3d instead, she throught 3d was sort of inv/force to 3N, We hven't discussed what intention was behind 1d-1s-2nt-3d-3nt-4d.

In the books and internet articles, when one of us proceed to 4 of agreed minor suit after game-forcing sequence (e.g. 2/1, fsf, 1m-2m-new suit), it is agreed as natural, forcing and is slam related. In reality, we came across hands that will use the 4m bid which 1. that seems no alternative but to escape to 4m (after stopper bid) and 2. that would like to invite partner to 5m with the 4m bid (say 1D-2D-2H-3D-4D-Pass/5D). It seems to me that these type of hands is bid similarly (or even same) to the articles but from it says such sequences it is slam related (forcing to 5m). How do you guys distinguish between those possibilities? In 2/1 system and inverted minor systems, is there any difference with the use of non-jump 4m bid in IMP and MP ? In the local club we played MP before, I reckon many intermediate players sometimes leave 4m in play uncontested!

One way to deal with this is to assume Preemptor has 8 points and average out the remaining HCPs between your partner and his partner. In this case you can assume your partner to have an average of 7 points. 18+7=25 a game it is ... around half the time. I think passing here easily ends the bidding as even partner having to hold 12 points facing (3♠)-P-P-? he ends it using the same calculations.

What will you open in each of these hands? I. [hv=pc=n&s=s4hakqj2daq8752ca]133|100[/hv] II. [hv=pc=n&s=s4haq852dakqjt2ca]133|100[/hv] III. [hv=pc=n&s=s4hadakqjt2caq852]133|100[/hv]

Trapped in a dream. What is your plan?
MinorKid replied to MinorKid's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
You are right. 1♦-1♥-2NT-3♣ if robot has 5 diamonds it will bid 3♦. It is funny As fas as i know Robot control-bid 1st round control. Even through it skipped 4♥ 4♠ 5♣ may still have the kings. KQJ xxx KQJx KQJ is entirely possible. -

Gee, maybe the bolt would cue bid diamonds three times after clubs, no matter without spade control or bad hand. -

Do you mean something like a jump to 5♥ at 1♦ 1♥ 2NT 3♦ 3♠ 5♥ -

Assume that you have to find the three honors: If your control bid promises 1st round control. To find the three honors, one way i think possibly work to start control-bidding ♥ after setting trumps with ♦, then to launch exclusion RKCB in the other black suit against which partner has specifically shown/denied the ace in that suit, followed by asking trump queen. But that will be complicated once you start with 1♥ and ending up 4♥ as control bid. The other way around i recommend to a blunt partner is set ♥ as trumps then bid clubs three times. I know a blunt partner usually comply with the cheapest 1st 2nd 3rd round control in order. But with a considerable partner it may look like to him that you are lacking spade control on the first cue-bid and on the second and third round he will think you're looking for spade ace/void, therefore depending your bidding styles he may decide to return to the trump suit for lacking the seemingly missing spade control along with club wastage/minimum hand. Also if the bidding reach 6♦ or 7♦ bid by you after ♥ being "agreed" some considerate partner may convert to hearts or even 7NT missing outside ace in a suit on one of your voids. Both option has flaws so damn! Maybe someone will implement 1. Three top-trump GSF for 7♣ & 7♦ 2. Trump Asking Bids for 2/1 GF and SAYC 3. Two suit exclusion Roman Six Key Card Blackwood with either queen asking feature -
It is 4am. Your are stuck in a dream. In it you are sitting south holding ♠- ♥AKQJT852 ♦JT532 ♣- hand. To get out of the dream you need to find a way such that it is absolute certain that ♦A ♦K ♦Q (or ♦AKxxx) is your partner's hand while you make your final bid. Alternatively you can try to describe your hand to him via bidding so that he makes the right decision. As a bonus, you can try to ascertain that ♦A ♦K ♦Q ♣A ♠A is in his hand to have a sweet dream on the following days (perhaps to be at a place you ever wanted to travel to). You know north is a BBO robot, all he can do to show you is from the bidding. You can choose to activate east-west as well if not they will be keep silent. How would you proceed? If you start with 1♥ or 2♦ (inv minor) or 2♥ (SJS) you can assume the following: [hv=pc=n&s=shakqjt852djt532c&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1dp1hp2np]133|200[/hv] [hv=pc=n&s=shakqjt852djt532c&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1dp2dp2sp]133|200[/hv] [hv=pc=n&s=shakqjt852djt532c&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1dp2hp3hp]133|200[/hv] 2♠ is showing stopper on the second one. 3♥ on the third one shows 3 card support. If you activate East West the bidding go like this: [hv=pc=n&s=shakqjt852djt532c&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1d1s]133|200[/hv] Natural bidding system is agreed between you two. You can use control-bidding once a suit has been agreed, can use Exclusion RKC-Blackwood and other specific agreements except Asking Bids. You dont have specific agreement with 5NT. Your partner will always bid 7♦ with two of three honors, so it just wont work.

Wow. Do you mean respond 2♦ to 1♦ ?

A typical 4-4-4-1

Putting in my shoe, 1♦ 1♥ 2♦ 5♣ 5♦ 5♥ 6♣ 7♦ ok got it :) Did you set the trumps on 2♥? Or it is merely showing stength? What if you want to play 2♥? There goes: [hv=pc=n&n=sqt9h93dak8762cq7&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=p1dp1hp2dp4c(Mini%20Splinter)p4dp4hp5dp6cp?]133|200[/hv] It seem to me p asking me for second rd spade control. Maybe, maybe-not. That's interesting.

"on the new suit that would be forcing, so jump of that suit =splinter rule" Bourke style relay said that, so does Brian Senior mini-sprinter.
-
Anyone think inverted minor raise 1♦-2♦ have some credit?
-
I guess someone like Brian Senior prefer play 1♦-1♥ 2♦-4♣ as mini-splinter with usually 4-card support. To show a void they splinter and c-bid that suit again(4♣ ?? 5♣) so that they can continue c-bids / sign-off. To ask for key card with the void they start with the higher bid (5♣). These are on the grounds that singleton appears more than a void.

We had some bidding practices. Firstly we discard 8 clubs ramdomly from the deck, then we suffle all remaining High cards (As, Ks, Qs, Js)and took ten of them discarding the rest, next we deal up all remaining cards from the deck up to 13-13. Here is what we got, a confusing auction but generally laugh to gut out at the end. [hv=pc=n&s=saj4hakq842dj543c&n=sqt9h93dak8762cq7&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=p1dp2hp3dp3hp4hp4sp5dp6cp6dp7dp]266|200[/hv]

At first i totally agree but the more i think about it tends to be less convincing for me. Frankly i think after 1♦ 1♥ 2♦ i need to find out the ♦A ♦K ♦Q (or tenth ♦) in north's hand. If i (south) have any one of those top honor i will be quite tempted to wind up with 1♦ 1♥ 2♦ 5NT (to get information). Surely sometimes it get overboard with two missing honors but imo it is unlikely as north skipped all to way to 2d. After i picture this, back to the current problem. It is awkward. It is difficult for me to find out all three honors lacking a dedicated agreement of exclusion KCB or Josephine 5NT without getting overboard. I have seriously think of fancy low level bidding agreement after 1♦-2♦ / 1♦-2♦-??-4♦ adding element of gamma asking bids but we left no room to discuss that at that moment. Maybe i shall send info to my partner instead, in that case strong jump shift makes a better description of the hand.

It looks like the travel ban is over and you are going to pack everything in your house in a suitcase for a long trip. Where are you going to stay when things goes wrong?

I tried the bidding in my Q plus software and it went like Without what sort of fancy expect agreements East Opens Strong NT ---- 1N 2♦ 2♥ 4♣** 4♦* 4♠* 5♥ PASS * control bids ** splinter West Opens 1♥ 2♦ : 2♦ 2/1 sys min 3 cards expect 4.5 cards 11+ points 2♥ 3♥ : 2♥ min 5 cards expect 5.5 cards 12-17 points 3♥ 15+ points 3♠* 4♦* : cues ♠A ; ♦A no ♣A 4NT~ 5♥~ : RKCB ; 2 wo the Q 6♥ Say you dont garbage 2♥ on this hand 1♥ 2♦ 3♦ 5♦ 6♦ I guess it is where non-regular partner gets without fancy gadgets. Reply to AL78 post: Yes Q-plus software suggest 1♥-3NT for Q85 K5 AKQ3 J432 1♥-2♦ for KQJ K5 AKQ3 J432 Naturally you can response with four card ♦ to 1M, in rare cases three as well. But opener is expected to see 4.5 cards in average. It assumes Jacoby 2NT, Forcing 1NT is applied in current system. I am wondering how to use six-key card blackwood, many say when you show 1. double fit OR 2. when a long suit is shown opposite balanced hands and second fit is found. I guess 1♦-1♥-2♦-3♣*-3♥-4♦ applies as well isn't it? After you asked for Aces and King how do you ask for the specific key Queen but not the other ?
