[hv=pc=n&s=sjt4hkqj876d872ca&n=sakq52h2dj953cq86&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2hp2s(Rebiddable%20%21S%2C%2014+%20points%2C%20forcing%20to%203%21H)p4c(6%21H%2C%209-%20HCP%2C%20twice%20rebiddable%20%21C%2C%2011+%20points)ppp]266|200[/hv] GIB Basic, didn't finish the hand because of the final contract (didn't read the description). Why is GIB counting points in my short suit to bid 2♠, and why isn't 4♣ a splinter?
  2. I am pretty shocked that the Netherlands and Sweden didn't qualify for the Bermuda Bowl. The turmoil in Italy clearly contributed to them not qualifying as well. It'll be crazy not to see Italy next year on Vugraph :(
  3. What about GIB North's discard on trick 8? I don't think ♦T85 are worth a darn facing ♦AKQJxxx in dummy.
  4. Or East thought that the lead was from ♦K95 and gave at least one of West's aces to South.
  5. The auction you gave is clearly for penalty, no doubt about it! One thing I do recommend though - if you double 1♥ or 1♠, and then double them again in 4♥ or 4♠, that it still be for takeout.
  6. The ACBL Convention Chart can be murky at times, but it's pretty clear on this issue. If the opponents promise 15+ HCP with their 1♣ opening bid, then #7 under "Responses and Rebids" on the left-hand column on page 1 applies - basically anything they want. If it doesn't promise 15+ HCP, then 1♦ can mean anything, but unless you are making the other bids at the 1-level GF, then they have to be natural. The Mid-Chart allows transfers over 1♣, period.
  7. 1.) 2♣ 2.) 2♦ 3.) 1NT 4.) 1♠ 5.) 4♥ (I think this hand is way too good for anything other than 3♥, I was probably overly aggressive) 6.) 2♦ (Hearts are a little better than Spades, but agreed on bidding 1♠ the first time) 7.) 3♥ 8.) 2♦ -> 3♣ 9.) 2♥ (I did think about 1♠ on 4, since I'm used to it in Precision) EDIT (Added parts in parenthesis) I'm happy with my results!
  8. Yeah. I had the same problem, I posted this several days ago and you can see that it should be getting worked on shortly.

First off, after the Double, I think 1♥ should stay 4+ ♥, but change to 5+ HCP, 7+ total points. Then, my pass of 1♠ should limit me to 5-6 HCP, 7 points, 4-5 ♥, 2-3 ♠, 3- ♣. It looks like the Pass doesn't do anything constructive. Even in spite of that, unless a Double of 3♦ would be penalty, why does GIB bid 3♠ and not 3♥ or X? EDIT - I have to thank 1eyedjack and BBradley62 in this GIB captaincy thread for finally figuring out how to post the hand directly into the post rather than always using the link. I set my dimensions to 500|300 and it looks great. EDIT 2 - I changed it to 400|300 and it seems fine on this computer, with no white box. Unless I was seeing things, it looked a lot smaller on my home computer though.
  10. I predict USA 3, Ronaldo 2. Klinny's subs make the difference.
  11. MrAce, I have to disagree with you here. While technically you are 6-4, it's such an imbalance (and if you changed 2 Diamonds to 2 Clubs, 4-card Major players would still open 1♦) that I would treat it as a 1-suiter if I had that bid. Also, there is nothing wrong with the bid, if you cheat a tad and call it 17+ HCP. Read THIS article by Karen Walker for a great write-up if you do play SJS. My auction would start 1♣ - 2♦ ; 2♠ (shows values, not necessarily length) - 3♦ (17+) and go from there.
  12. Actually, I think is the best ever, if you don't mind a little profanity (the f-bomb, s***, and hell). His videos on Cleveland Tourism are also hilarious.
  13. http://tinyurl.com/oqd9gdd Yes, I know I should have bid 2♦ the first time, but as it was Bridge Bingo and there wasn't a 2♦ contract, I planned on X followed by 3♦. I jumped to 6NT solely because of Bridge Bingo. As it stands, why does my 4♦ bid deny more than 5 diamonds, but the remaining description that was cut-off also says "Rebiddable Diamonds". I didn't see any of the other bids, but I think 4♣ was similar, just swap the Clubs and Diamonds meanings.
  14. 1.) I would bid 1♥, mainly because I prefer 1♠ to be 4 almost always, and I want 5+ Clubs for 2♣. 2.) I would bid 2♥, on the grounds that it doesn't show anything more than it did before. 2NT isn't a bad idea, but my partners at least wouldn't get the idea of it being this weak. 3.) I think 2NT here shows roughly 5-7 HCP and at least a stopper in their suit, and this hand qualifies.
  15. I wouldn't call you very dim, at least the way it was explained. The key is TWO ♣ ruffs are needed - the first time on trick three, and the first time N-S leads a trump, East needs to rise with the Ace and lead that 3rd ♣ for the 2nd ruff and -1.
  16. You mean that team that tied Brazil and from what I read, have their act together? Unlike a certain country, that's about to go home VERY early when Chile beat them.
  17. First off Amnesiac44, welcome to the Forums! Your auction isn't a bad one, but I disagree with what you said for two reasons: (1) Basic Precision isn't likely to use Gamma or Epsilon Asking Bids, let alone the players remembering what Asking Bid comes next, and (2) I would be bidding 1NT on round 1, right or wrong. Otherwise, I would have a similar auction.
  18. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL USA!!!
  19. USA! USA!! USA!!! I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win!! I believe that we will win!!!
  20. Well, since I know we have at least 5 different WC countries that have posted here, I think we need to start talking about the games. Tomorrow, I expect Germany to beat Portugal, and I hope that the Black Stars don't shine at all (Ghana vs USA, their nickname is because of their flag).
  21. I've seen it once on a 5-card suit and a hand similar to that, and it worked. I've seen a few times on pretty weak 6-baggers, and it usually doesn't work. Honestly, I would laugh if you did it with me, because it's for fun, but unless trying to swing I don't recommend it. If you had a good 6-card suit like KJTxxx or better, I would consider it mandatory at these colors. Boy, have I changed from a few years ago, when I wouldn't even consider 3m pre-empts on 6 when NV.
  22. Answering ArtK78's two questions: 1.) In real life, using my system, I open this kind of hand 4♣ - forcing to 5♣ or them playing it doubled. Fluffy has the continuation right - we cuebid with a bigger hand like North's. 2.) If I am lucky, I open it 6♣. If not, then 5♣.
  23. Easy 4♠, unfortunately only my GIB hadn't Xed 3♦ - http://tinyurl.com/mg2zx8g
  24. Gszes, I wouldn't put smiley faces on something that isn't humorous in any way. Also, a few people were run off by you when they posted here once or twice, but apparently needed to personally call your phone and possibly make a house call in order to play. Diana, I would like to play, but I work every weekend and can't afford unpaid time off :(
  25. 1.) That is 11 HCP, and since GIB plays 2/1, it has to bid 1NT because it can't bid 2♦. 2.) Once GIB jumps, you have a pretty good picture of it's hand - a Limit Raise with 3 trump. You have to go because you have a prime 14 HCP with two doubletons for a 16 count.
