  1. agree 100%, also with awm that kibs should not be able to chat to table.
  2. Just out of curiosity, how many would be optimal?
  3. heh, no, i was legit asking which team you were on. JLall was just having fun, since 'everyone' around here knows that you are Timo.
  4. I would balance as North for sure. South could bid 2S but his spades suck. North could redouble, but that's a close call unless you play Rosenkrantz (Hx), which is obviously perfect here. But at pairs letting them play 2H (especially at these colors) is poor imo.
  5. fyp: http://www.bridgebas...post__p__610123 Also, I like that the smack-talking has begun. The new and improved team: wyman-bunnygo kfay-jchiu jjbrr-gwnn inquiry-barmar
  6. North could hardly have more for his 4D bid (in fact, he has too much imo). 100% N.
  7. Would not mind a 7th team. I proposed (on the urging of some members of the team) the WBF 25 VP scale. The ACBL 30-VP scale overrewards wins, and the 20VP scale overrewards blitzes, but the WBF scale is a nice balance imo. http://www.qldbridge.com/director/downloads/WBF%20VP%20SCALE.pdf I sent all this to Ben, but I guess for the purpose of discussion, we're proposing no HUMs and nothing brown-sticker, since no one is really going to take this seriously enough to prepare countermeasures. For the ACBL-ers, what we're proposing is something like a loose mid-chart I guess.
  8. Interesting, I'm in the "after a pen X or a pen pass of an X, X is penalty" camp. I think you've still answered my question though :)
  9. Actually now that I think about it, I can't even imagine a shape where LHO XX's and RHO bids diamonds, so I guess it's just more the auction where LHO balances 2D.
  10. So for the "ez pass"-ers (I am included): What do you do if the auction goes: (1S) P (1N) X (P) P (2D) P (P) ? (1S) P (1N) X (P) P (XX) P [XX = SOS] (2D) ? Obv we FP (right?) if LHO SOS's and RHO bids clubs, and we bid 2H if LHO balances clubs and partner FP's But when they bid diamonds, I'm wondering if "rip it, lead trump" is reasonable, or whether it's better to bid toward our own heart game. At w/r, I'm more inclined to speculatively rip it, and at r/w, I'm less likely, but I'm not sure what to do at even.
  11. easy to make 13 tricks with 14 cards (edit: not to mention even though i have a propensity to open off-shape 2N, I wouldn't do so with all my strength concentrated in my 2 suits as above)
  12. Ok, now it's confirmed: wyman-bunnygo kfay-jchiu jjbrr-gwnn gogogogogo
  13. I want to act, but r/w I can't do it.
  14. <redacted -- still waiting for one, sorry>
  15. I'd like to captain a team. I have people in mind (mostly forum posters who are irl friends) -- just waiting for responses. Did you say teams of 6 or 8?
  16. did you know the o/u was 54 before your dream?
  17. 3N If you make me dbl, I'll bid 6S after 4C. I'm on borrowed time anyway.
  18. A very strong player once told me that you should have 3 partnerships: one where you're the pro, one where you're the client, and one where you're equals. Trust me that you can learn a lot from all three partnerships.
  19. I'm playing with BunnyGo. Can we reach out to potential teammates, or should we wait to see what this thread brings?
  20. I would say the most common responses I hear at club games to the question "leads and carding?" are, in some order: "standard," "odd/even," "lavinthal," and just looking at me dumbfounded. In fact, once, a woman told me "lavinthal," and I repeated "sorry, not your first discard. Your leads and carding agreements please?" And she snapped back "well we don't play that way." Additionally, it is problematic that "standard" can mean (in practice -- and good luck getting a ruling on this!) "standard leads and carding" or "we have no agreements." Occasionally you hear the almost musical "3rd and 5th, upside down count and attitude" Obviously the nonsensical answers are far less common in the upper flights of flighted events.
  21. Since several people have commented: the point of my post above was that "odd/even" does not address my question of "leads and carding?" Indirectly I suppose it does, since thinking that "odd/even" is a sufficient response suggests that you would otherwise say "standard" even though you rarely give any meaningful signal at all and don't really know what "standard" means anyway. Maybe this should be in the pet peeves thread, grumble grumble. I'm just trying to beat Phil in the race for Most Ornery BBOer 2012.
